Generator Hostel’s Guide to Coldplay In Copenhagen

Event Date: 28th August 2012

Coldplay are undoubtedly one of the biggest acts in the world right now and as part of their European stadium tour they are coming to Parken, Copenhagen’s biggest stadium venue, for a one night only gig. Formed in 1996 in London, Coldplay have had phenomenal success with hits like “Yellow”, “Fix You” and more recently with “Paradise” which reached number one in the UK charts and was the biggest selling rock single of 2011 in the UK.

The band has also won numerous awards including seven Brits and Grammys. If you are lucky enough to have tickets to the show then check out our guide to Copenhagen for Coldplay fans:

A Rush of Blood to the Stomach

If you are looking for a slap up meal before the concert then wander along Østerbrogade as there are loads of great places to eat here. One of our favourites is Restaurant No 1 which deserves its name. They serve mostly traditional Danish food and particularly recommended are the desserts.

Alternatively, try La Vecchia Signora which is not far from Generator Hostel Copenhagen on Gronnegade which serves tasty Italian food. They are famous for their pizzas which can be had for around 75DKK on the lunch menu.

Have a look at our Top 5 Budget Eateries In Copenhagen if you want to save your money for band merchandise.

A Cold One after Coldplay

Why not have drinks after the show? Sam’s Bar on Ostergade is a great karaoke place just down the road from the venue so you can recreate the gig with your own tuneful vocals and your Coldplay favourites. This bar is very popular with the locals so you are sure to get a warm welcome.

For a more authentic experience head to Nørrebro Brewery on Ryesgade which is one of Copenhagen’s many microbreweries. Taste one of 10 different, original, brewed locally, Danish beers and ask the staff about their recommendations as they are all knowledgeable on the subject.

If you are looking for something a bit closer to home then have a look at our 10 Great Bars Within Stumbling Distance of Generator Hostel Copenhagen.

Keep on Dancing

If you are looking to carry on the party then you are best off heading back into central Copenhagen and hitting a nightclub. One to try mid week is Den Glade Gris on Lille Kannikestræde, which means the happy pig, and they have a very happy and cosy atmosphere with tequila night on Tuesdays. Or check out Heidi’s Bier Bar, not far away on Vestergade, this is a genuine Tyrolean Bar in the heart of Copenhagen. Walk in here and you will get a taste of Oktoberfest all year round with more than 40 different kinds of foreign and Danish beer you are certain of finding a good pint.

For something a bit mellower there are loads of late night jazz clubs in Copenhagen the city of jazz. Try the Jazz House on Niels Hemmingsensgade for some of the best that Copenhagen has to offer, this has music on most night so of the week. Also good is Jazz Club Loco on Helgesensgade which is famous for its promotion of more avant-garde jazz and encourages more of a two way dialogue between the audience and the performers.

^ I found several links about the Danish radio station P3 broadcasting the concert live including this in Danish (I have posted the text in Danish below the English translation)

Danish radio station P3 is going to broadcast the Coldplay concert live

24. aug. 2012 10.27

On Tuesday at 20.00 (8pm) the Danish radio station is going to warm up to one of this year's most anticipated concert experiences: Coldplay at Parken.

As the only radio station, Danish P3 is going to broadcast the entire concert LIVE from Parken in Copenhagen so that the unlucky ones who wanted tickets for this concert without succeeding in getting the tickets - will be able to sing along from the sofa instead.

Signe Vadgaard who is hosting the programme ’Smag på P3’ (Taste P3), will be the guide in Parken for the radio listeners until the band enters the stage at about 21.30 (9:30 pm local time / central European time) and the music takes over.

”I expect very much from this concert / I am looking very much forward to this concert. But before it begins, I will warm up the listeners with i.a. music, interviews with fans and lots of high spirit from the Parken. And I promise to try hard to find Chris Martin, before he enters the stage at Parken. I am sure that the concert will be spectacular” says Signe Vadgaard from P3. She also looks forward to finding out if it works with the special, music-controlled bracelets that light up in synchronity with the music and that have been produced for the audience as requested by the band.

”And I expect the listeners and myself to have a gigantic musical party with one of the world's greatest bands,” says the P3 host.

P3 sender Coldplay-koncert live

24. aug. 2012 10.27

^You're welcome - I have edited my translation a bit.

Today in the Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende there was a double page on Davide Rossi and his involvement with Coldplay - and his background / career.

I saw it in my neighbour's paper. I googled Davide Rossi to read about him in Wikipedia - and this link covers largely what was written in the Danish paper (the text in the link is more detailed): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davide_Rossi.

According to the Danish newspaper article, Davide Rossi and his family are living in Copenhagen.

He is born on 7 August 1970 - so he is 42 years old.

I hope this wasn't posted before...but does anyone know if we in the U.S. will be able to listen to the broadcast as well?

edit: http://www.dr.dk/radio/player/?P3

I'm listening to it now! If the livestream is available in the Netherlands I guess it's also available for people in the US : )

And if I can listen to it now it's only logical that I can also listen to it on Tuesday.

Hi Tash,

The link you got there is the live stream for the radio station P1, and I don't think they've ever played a Coldplay song. :)

Here in Denmark we have the radio stations P1, P2, P3, P4, P5 etc .....

The direct link to P3 is this: http://www.dr.dk/radio/player/?P3

If that doesn't work, try to click on the P3-logo to the right on this site: http://www.dr.dk/radio

"Hør live radio" means "Listen to live radio". :)

Anyone think they'll change the setlist? I mean, it's their first concert after the break, so it is possible that they see this as an opportunity to change things. Hope they'll still play Lovers In Japan and Warning Sign, though.

Can't wait!

I would be surprised if they changed the set list - they've stuck to the same basic on the 2012-tour.

Personally I really don't understand why the guys haven't played Life In Technicolor II just once?! If it was up to me I'd dropped Violet Hill and replaced with LiT II. :)
