May 7, 201214 yr im planning on teaching myself guitar this summer. is it hard are their websites that can show me the chords and basics. thanks.
May 8, 201214 yr You can learn on the internet, but you should really get some help from a friend or someone else who is an experienced guitarist, just so you don't start learning bad habits. Also, you can learn chords and songs from the internet but the thing you won't learn is how to learn, if that makes sense. I know people that can play some songs really well, but because they are just learning particular chords and particular songs, it takes them a while to learn a new song. If you can't get face to face help, you should go really slow and learn lots of theory that will help you learn better. If you just want to play a few songs and are not really concerned about your playing in the long run, sure just learn some chords from the internet, you will still learn, but your ability to learn new stuff will not be as developed. There are lots of youtubers that have good guitar teaching videos such as Marty Schwartz, check him out and have fun playing!

May 10, 201214 yr theory i play piano but never took theory what is it was is the concept i can play by ear a nd learn a song really quick i jusst dont know what theory is Not quite sure what u said there :P Guitar theory is in part the notes on the neck and basic structure of the chords (i.e. triads etc). These 2 things relate to each other. If you know the notes you can play anything...
May 10, 201214 yr Author i play piano i took classical for a year and have been learning by ear for 1 year so together ive been playing for 2 years. I just dont know what theory is. will it help me improove by ear. and is it the same for guitar. can i learn from like books as well. my goal is to be good in guitar and piano.
May 11, 201214 yr Well I play piano music on guitar, bit odd but I love it. Theory will help you play by ear because it gives you more knowledge  so when you are zooming around on the neck you have a basic idea of what will work and what won't. Google "notes on the guitar neck" because then you can see how the guitar is just like the piano in terms of notes and things... makes it simpler if you've started with the piano first. Also, ultimate-guitar.com is great for learning popular songs. Personally I don't like guitar how-to books - they cost a lot and are down right confusing. The internet would be my first call ;)
