Piano/Keyboard beginner tips?

Featured Replies

I got a keyboard for Christmas and I am going to get a tutor to start learning. It has 61 keys and is a Yamaha. I was just wondering if anybody could give me any tips to help me start on the right foot? :) Thanks!

Good luck :D

Start learning basic chords:) you can find all kinds of charts on the internet :)

Do you know the keys? You'll need to know them, they're easy :nice:, like C, D, E, etc. :)

You could start learning some songs from tutorials on Youtube? ColdplayKB makes awesome tutorials :nice:

Thanks so much! You seem really nice, as far as I have seen. :)

I shall check out some songs on ColdplayKB right away! Thanks, once again for your help. :)

The keys on my keyboard are not labelled, will that be much of an issue?

No that won't be much of an issue at all, they don't need to be labelled, all I mean is this:

They are useful to know :nice:

I might print that off, keep it in my Coldplay song book, if that's okay. Thanks for the help! :D

Hmm... oh and one more question (sorry), I have small hands, will that serve as an issue or something of the sort?

No that won't be a problem. It may affect octaves, octaves are notes spaced eight keys away from each other, with your fingers on the first and eight key (there may be a better way to explain it but thats how i interpret it), but my friend has small hands and she plays piano very well, I'm sure you will too :nice:.

Aww, thanks Mollyxyloto! :D You've helped me quite a bit, ha ha. Uhh could I ask you a question, please? Another one? :embarrassed: :)

well here goes. :)

Because I am going to start learning, if I have any questions could I come to you for advice please? :)

Of course you can :nice:, I'll help as much as I can.

Users such as 86timewarp are extremely helpful, more helpful than me, as well.

But yeah, I would be more than happy to help with anything :nice:.

I have been summoned :awesome:

Yeah, because you're the piano man :awesome::p.
