hmmm Sternly to her best, asking questions and all! :D

a state and province are pretty much the same thing. in the U.S., we have 'State of New York' for example. In Canada, they have 'Province of Quebec', another example.

I've never seen 'Region' used as a strict political terminology. 'County' in the U.S. seems comparabe to 'District' in some other countries.

Basically, all these are just terms to describe territories as they relate to politics/geography. You can come up with your own term. In the State of Louisiana in the U.S., they have 'Parish' rather than more common 'County'...

Ireland is definitely a country...Fifi would beat you up probably if you said it wasn't a country!

Scotland and Wales are countries/nations too, I guess. I don't know how it all works and how they come under the London rule and be called collectively as 'the U.K.' I just know that many Scots are fiercely proud of their 'independence' from Britain, and of their culture, etc. And so are, I"m sure, Welch and Irish.

Northern Ireland is in a case all by itself. :stunned:

Sorry, I meant Scotland instead of Ireland.

Fifi, we did, but I have many questions and I didn't want to bother you asking them!

But Scotland can't be a country! It's a Nation!

And Regions it's a term that you use in Geography, for example my country is divided in regions, not States or Provinces

Is it wrong If I say State isntead of Province? [Well you said it was the same, just another name]

yeah, for now. but the situation will change. :sneaky:

i see your point about the U.K. bit.

 :sneaky:

Carla you can ask me your questions when I get onto msn next ok? :D

No, It can't be a country! It's just liek Palestine, it's not a country, it's a nation!

No! Or you are a country or you are a nation. Though Scotland seems to be a country, but it's not recognise internationally, I mean for example, they teach us that Scotland it's not a country, that it's like an Independent State of the United Kingdom and Norther Ireland

district and county the same thing. didn't know you people had 'Regions' instead of 'States' or 'Provinces', but as I said, that is just interchangable terminology.

Chinese are a nation, and a country, right?

or may be countries are made up of several 'nations' or 'tribes' put together. I dunno.

U.S. is a nation of rich-ass brats, that's for sure! and it's a country! :D

  • Author

yes we have Regions. I study in the 5th Region [V Región de Valparaiso] and they all have a name of a important city or person for the región but they all depend on the 'Capital Región'

No, the country it's China and the Chinese it's the people inside it. And the culture it's the Chinese too, but China it's a country not Nation!

The Jews were a Nation, now they are a State [any difference If I say State or Country]; the Jewish Country or Israel.

Though I'm not ure about Scotland, because they ahev their own laws, education system, flag, athem [well I heard the Rugby Team singing something], own sport teams and so.... but I think it's not!

Are the palestinians an nation?

  • Author

yes! Palestine it's a Nation, not a country!

and what's the diference between State and Republic [ Like the State of Israel and the Republic of Chile]

So what is considered part of the UK? Which countries...?

And Wales is its own country?...it is not part of England?

Sorry I know nothing about this, but always wondered.

What does the United Kingdom mean anyhow?? Are they all ruled by the queen? Sorry for my ignorance, but I never learned it here.

  • Author

I think the Queen Job is not to rule the country. She just gives the First Speech on Parlament and she is the head of the Commonwealth.........

Yah...I know she doesn't really rule anymore...I just meant....I think you know what I mean
