so I'm watching the Tour de France and suddenly they say this:

"Incoming news from the royal house, this evening will king Alber II adress the nation on the four big television stations and their radio

Could it be that he will retire? more information on the site of the news."

so I go to that site and this is what I read:

Koning Albert kondigt vanavond troonsafstand aan

(King Albert anounces abdication tonight.

rest of the article

An inside source says it could be that he will retire and pass the crown to his son Filip.

This news isn't confirmed yet.

The speech is at 18h GMT+1

:o This sounds interesting. Has there been any economic / social issues that would make retire? Or just getting to that age..?

the only issue that could cause this is because there is nothing

elections are in '14 so he has all the time he wants to give it to Filip and prepare him

wonder how Filip will coope with De Wever

^^ Just age I think

Laurent would be funny indeed :P

could also be a reason

:laugh3: imagine all the wars he could start with just visiting places

for the non Dutch speaking people:

Belgian king to address nation amid abdication speculation

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Belgium's King Albert II will give a televised address to the nation on Wednesday, the royal palace said, amid frenzied speculation in the local media that the 79-year-old monarch will step down.

"The core council of ministers has convened in the presence of the king. The king will speak to the people at 1800 (12:00 p.m. EDT) via a radio and television address," the palace said in a statement.

Local newspapers, quoting government sources, reported that the monarch will announce his resignation.

His son Philippe, 53, is next in line to the throne in the small nation where European Union headquarters are located.

Ideal time to get rid of the monarchy altogether. Try and do it whilst you can. (Not sure how you should do that, by the way)

why should we? apart from the Red Devils is it one of the few things that holds this country together

... and De Wever's poor French

I have absolutely no idea who any of these people are, apart from that they are politicians.

Hannah (The Master) and I are talking about how Filip would talk with our main politician Bart De Wever who is now major of Antwerp but actually wants to be prime minister

he wants to make Flanders independent :blank:
