OutKast are Working on a New Album, According to Ex-Manager Queen Latifah

A reunited Big Boi and Andre 3000 will be headlining Coachella 2014, playing festival spots across the globe - of which Glastonbury is a likely candidate - and generally celebrating 20 years since their classic debut Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. Touch wood, it looks like that won’t be all – as has been conjectured numerous times, an album apprears to be in the works as well. The news arrives from rapper/one-time OutKast manager/chat show doyenne Queen Latifah who opened up about the subject on The Howard Stern Show. When asked what the ATLiens were up to, Latifah said that the duo were “about to work on a new album”. Not official confirmation, then, but certainly something to whet the appetite.

So Far...

Mogwai - it was solid record in terms of the heavy use of electronics, but not the best thing I've ever heard, but good music

Thee Mt. Zion... - Wow, all that rock influence really pays off on this. Congrats to them

Against Me! - I liked it a lot, but my opinion might be different if this weren't the first time listening to them

Warpaint - Some were memorable, it was a strong C average to me, definitely a music grower

Stephen Malkums and the Jicks - solid album, doing what he does best, super

Dog Bite - Some nice shoegaze to start the year, an improvement from their last record

Slowdive Officially Confirm Reunion; Reveal FEstival Appearance and Album Plans

The rumblings have been around for a while now, but today Slowdive have confirmed that the whispers of a reunion aren’t unjustified. The band took to Twitter to announce an appearance at this year’s Primavera Sound in Barcelona. It will be the first time the band have been together since they split in 1995, and quite rightly there are bound to be expectations. Their official website has flickered to life, listing the Primavera date in a “live” section (suggesting there will be more shows on the way) and offering a teeshirt in the merch section. Slowdive’s Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell spoke to The Quietus and clarified things a little, saying that there wasn’t a big paycheck waiting for them, and that the reunion was for “artistic reasons,” revealing that they hope to “get a new record together.”

Aphex Twin Unreleased Album Caustic Window to Be Sold Digitally on Kickstarter, Physically on eBay

Earlier this week, FACT noticed that a test pressing of the unreleased 1994 Aphex Twin album Caustic Window was up for sale on Discogs. The price is listed at $13,500... which is a lot. But the record's owner, along with Richard D. James' label Rephlex Records, have struck up a deal with the electronic music forum We Are The Music Makers (WATMM): A Kickstarter will give 500 people the chance to receive a digital copy of the album. The site's administrator, who goes by Joyrex, negotiated the asking price down to $8,368. That means those who buy into the Kickstarter will pay about $16 for a digital download. Once the Kickstarter threshold is met, the physical LP will be sold on eBay. The proceeds from the eBay sale will be split evenly between Rephlex/Aphex Twin, the people who pay into the Kickstarter, and a charity to be decided on by the site's users. After the auction is completed, everyone will receive their digital downloads. "Apparently all agree that it’s a good chance to give the hardcore fans a unique chance to own something that will never see the light of day otherwise," Joyrex wrote.

Evian Christ Working on New Kanye West Album

The details regarding Kanye West's new album are still vague, but one piece of information has come into focus. Producer Evian Christ, who worked on last year's Yeezus, talked to self-titled about contributing to the album (as Radio.com points out). "I’ve got to get home and write an Otis Redding–style beat for him," Christ said during self-titled's interview. "[Kanye] e-mailed last night. He wants something that sounds a bit like Otis Redding, a bit like Mobb Deep."

D'Angelo's Manager Says New Album, Tour Will Come in 2014

Once again, there's news on when we might expect to see the long-awaited follow up to D'Angelo's Voodoo. In an interview with Billboard, D'Angelo's manager, Kevin Liles, said that the album is "definitely" coming in 2014. "There'll be an album this year: there's 14 records so far, we might have a couple of bonus records, but all the recording is basically done and we're mixing and mastering now," he said. "Definitely, he'll be back." Additionally, Liles said a tour would follow. "We'll probably start an international tour in October, we'll come back [to the U.S.]," he said. "We're doing a James Brown tribute in August [at the Hollywood Bowl] and some one-off things. But the touring will probably start in October and 2015."

After unveiling the new track "Raptor" last Friday, Scottish producer Rustie has detailed his hotly anticipated follow-up LP to 2011's Glass Swords. Green Language is out August 26 via Warp. It features Danny Brown, D Double E, Redinho, and Gorgeous Children. The press release explains that the album's title comes from "medieval literature, Renaissance magic, and ancient mythology". Kanye Reportedly DJ’d 20 New Songs In London Last Night

The fabled, mysterious new Kanye West album might be coming sooner than we knew. Last night, Kanye performed at London’s Wireless festival. After the show, he and longtime consigliere Virgil Abloh took over the DJ booth at a London club, as Complex reports. And according to various eyewitness Twitter accounts, the two played about 20 new songs, which one twitterer described as “’Dark’, ’hellish’ and ’groundshaking!’” Promising! This could mean that the new album is loaded up and ready to go, possibly for a Beyoncé-style surprise release, or it could mean that Kanye is still tinkering with it and that he wanted to see how these songs would sound over club speakers. Either way, this continues to be our most anticipated album of the year, and we continue to know basically nothing about it.

Jessie Ware Announces Album Title, Tough Love, Shares Art

Jessie Ware's recent single "Tough Love" is actually the title track to her upcoming album, as she confirmed today. For the follow-up to 2012's Devotion, Ware worked primarily with executive producers BenZel, aka London post-bass producer Two Inch Punch and mega-producer Benny Blanco (Rihanna, Katy Perry). Along with Devotion co-conspirators Dave Okumu, Julio Bashmore, and Kid Harpoon, she also enlisted Miguel, Arctic Monkeys producer James Ford, Toronto’s Nineteen85 (who co-produced Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home”), and Ed Sheeran, who’s helped write singles for Taylor Swift and One Direction in addition to being a solo artist.

Kanye West Reveals Next Album Could Drop in September, Single in Two Weeks

It’s been a year since Yeezus, and Kanye West appears to have its followup almost ready. In an interview with GQ, West stated, when asked about how far away the next record was, that it could come as early as September, which is just over a month away. “I think most likely September,” he stated, noting that while he goes “back and forth,” he should have one of the songs out “in the next couple of weeks.” He says initially he wanted the album to drop in June (to “kill it for the summer”) but has to “work on Adidas and be with my child.” On the new single, entitled ‘All Day’, West claims that it’s “a song that can be in the club like ‘Don’t Like’ or ‘*****s in Paris,’” so we’re hoping it’s actually going to show up in a couple of weeks as planned. There’s always the threat that he could scrap it all and go back to the drawing board, as he says in the interview “when Beyoncé was working on her last album, she took a while.”

SBTRKT Announces New Album, Wonder Where We Land; Listen to 'New Dorp New York', Featuring Ezra Koenig

Aaron Jerome teams with the Vampire Weekend frontman for his new single. SBTRKT will follow-up his 2011 self-titled debut with Wonder Where We Land. While details are scarce, the album will be proceeded by new single ‘New Dorp New York’. An electro-funk track that wouldn’t be out of place on DFA, ‘New Dorp New York’ features Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig and pays homage to Sweet’s ‘Ballroom Blitz’ (which was famously sampled on the Beastie Boys’ ‘Hey Ladies’).
