World-Renowned British Rock Band Coldplay Provides Soundtrack for FOX Sports' 2014 NLCS Coverage

WORLD-RENOWNED BRITISH ROCK BAND COLDPLAY PROVIDES SOUNDTRACK FOR FOX SPORTS' 2014 NLCS COVERAGE

Grammy Award-winning band Coldplay, fronted by lead vocalist Chris Martin, provides the soundtrack for FOX Sports' coverage of this year's National League Championship Series presented by T-Mobile on FOX and FOX Sports 1. FOX Sports' exclusive NLCS coverage begins Saturday, Oct. 11 with Game 1 between the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals, live on FOX at 8:00 PM ET.

Fifteen Coldplay songs from several albums are available for use in commercial bumpers, opening teases and montages during the NLCS on FOX and FOX Sports 1, in addition to FOX Sports 1's studio shows FOX SPORTS LIVE and AMERICA'S PREGAME. Songs available from Coldplay's newest album, "Ghost Stories," include "A Sky Full of Stars," "Ink," "Magic" and "Midnight (Giorgio Moroder Remix)."

Other Coldplay hits available during FOX Sports' NLCS coverage are "Clocks," "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall," "Everything's Not Lost," "In My Place," "Life in Technicolor II," "Paradise," "Politik," "Speed of Sound," "Strawberry Swing," "Viva La Vida" and "Yellow."

NLCS Games 2, 3 and 4 between the Giants and Cardinals are scheduled for telecast on FOX Sports 1, as are NLCS Games 5 and 7, if necessary. NLCS Game 6, if necessary, is set for broadcast on FOX on Saturday, Oct. 18. Coverage of the 110th World Series, the 15th straight broadcast by FOX and the network's 17th overall, begins Tuesday, Oct. 21 in either Oriole Park at Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles, or Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals.

man.. we are definitely seeing the repercussions of changing the label from parlophone to universal... not only in this, but in the album release promo for GS. i hope this doesn't turn into brand endorsements in the long run. but the bottom line is, this is just sports coverage, which they have done before. still the extensive use of back catalogue throws you off a bit. hope universal would lay off artistic decision making for lp7, especially after the less commercial GS.

I don't even care. Cardinals all the way.

gai its the opposite coldplay are still on parlophone, but parlophone used to be with EMI, but then EMI sold parlophone to Universal, which is shite

i miss EMI, they understood coldplays purpose and left them pure

Okay, What's next? Are they going to write song for shampoo advert?

the problem here is that coldplay doesnt really have a voice in all this, Universal now owns all their songs and they can do whatever they want to, remember when EMI published a "best of" of Radiohead against their will? They can do that, and the band often cant do anything about it

I know that the record company do wants to make money. But Coldplay is not a new band hungry for fame. If they don't get up and fight for their policy, they're going to be writing a song for shampoo advert for sure.

oops.. my bad. thanks cakey! changed the post.

Watch the film 'artifact' by 30 Seconds to Mars, a real big eye opener into the workings of record labels. They would do their utmost not to upset Coldplay though as they are important to them but other smaller and mid sized artists, its another story.

That's a lot of songs to be aired during the coverage. I wish it was for the premier league instead :P

That's because in England they respect artists. While in America everything is about money and advertisement and fame.

the only thing that england has to do with coldplay is the bakery, their policy is the same as any other american band, which is sad

Nah, its the same in most major countries, the mechanics don't change, the music industry here has been 'Americanized' since 2006. In the film mentioned, Coldplay were mentioned as they were on the same label but with the amount of albums Coldplay sell, they are not subject to the same treatment as smaller artists.

Stereophonics formed their own label a few years ago, it did wonders for them. Coldplay don't really have anything to worry about because of their status but I think it could happen one day.

and really theres no other way, they cant pull a radiohead cause they are far too big for that now, the right would have been after x&y

Logic says the situation will be like U2's in the future because of the size of the band but its a very different and changing music industry so who knows what may happen in 10-20 years!

I'm personally rooting for the American League this year, it always seems like it's ether the Giants or the Cardinals that go to the World Series. FOX can tempt me with Coldplay music all they want, I still want ether the Royals or the Orioles to win (Royals if the Cardinals make it). I'm still sad though that my favorite MLB team (the Cleveland Indians) didn't make the playoffs this year.

I don't get why people get mad about this kind of stuff. The Beatles back in the days were "more famous than Jesus" and they knew it. They made a lot of "commercial" songs (mostly by Paul) like Obladì Obladà but no one gives a flying shit. There is no such thing as "commercial" or "non commercial", there is just good music or shitty music.

I Saw Her Standing There is a great example of a commercial song which is unbelievably good.

thats not what we are talkign about, we are talking about selling your music to advertising

  • 2 weeks later...

Hadn't read this before, but I should've known something was up... I was blown away to hear song after song of theirs while watching the games. It was quite awesome and a very nice surprise!
