A Fear

For some reason, I get the idea that this could really be their last album.

It started with how Ghost Stories kind of reminds me of the X&Y era. After all, the album seems to revolve around Chris's personal life and he's at the forefront; I wouldn't even think Will and Jonny were on this album if I didn't know better; the plastic, gross drum beats that ANYONE could have played and little solo at the end of True Love are the only real signs. And well, I thought maybe I was just overreacting. But then again, the band never says anything about problems they've having until after the fact.

And then I heard the three interviews tonight; there seems to be tension in every one of them. Especially in the third one with Jo Wiley when Chris seemed offended or insecure that "the band" had gotten on him about revealing the name of the album, or apparently Jonny had at least. And that seems rather unlike him, I feel like it takes a whole lot to get Jonny upset. Will and Chris kind of talked over each other quietly and their voices dissipated after a few seconds, it makes me wonder what must be going on. And at the end Chris kind of had to add in how the band had wanted London Grammar's lead singer to replace him. She asked them about Ghost Stories and he says something like "I think we're all really happy with it...or at least I am." In the Jonny and Guy interview they seem to steer clear of mentioning Chris at all and all of this together just makes me wonder.

It's finals week for me and I'm not a fan of the Ghost Stories era so I haven't been on top of all the concerts or interviews but it definitely concerns me. Chris seems to be doing a lot of performances by himself as well if I'm not mistaken and doing things more and more without the consent of the rest of the band, first with Avicii and now with the album title. I just don't know.

They actually seem to be happier than ever as a band. Guy specifically said today that they don't think they'll ever break up. I'm pretty sure Chris saying that Jonny was mad at him was just a joke.

They are not going to quit making music for a long time. Chris has confirmed this, and so has the rest of the band, in some form or another. No reason to worry!

I thought I heard Chris saying in one interview something like "its just an exciting time to be in the band". I reckon they are all very level-headed and doing great. Have no fear!

It's just an end of a chapter. not the end of the band :wink3:

:) I appreciate the encouragement. I was very excited when they talked about how songs come about and Guy really made a point of saying how Jonny sometimes starts it by creating a really great guitar riff. Since they had just come from and were now heading back to the studio, that made me really happy. The more guitar and Jonny awesomeness on the new album, the better! He really hit his stride on MX and Ghost Stories undid it all

I think you're probably reading a little bit too much into these interviews. Chris is quite often just kidding around in interviews and making things up, and I think we should just believe Will's statement that the band wasn't seriously upset about Chris revealing the name of the next album. And I think we can be rather sure that everything about Jonny being mad at Chris was just Chris kidding around. Will stated himself how very unlikely it is for Jonny to get mad at all ("once every ten years") and Chris said Jonny had taken him aside, taken the microphone away from him and forbidden him to sing for an hour as a punishment. He was obviously not being serious there and I'm sure if Jonny had really been upset with him Chris would NEVER be kidding around about it like that.

I don't think that there was more tension than usual in any one of them. Guy didn't seem tense to me and Jonny has never been comfortable giving interviews . Chris and Will seemed normal to me, just like almost every interview I've heard with them up to now.

Chris has always been doing solo performances between tours and I think the collaboration with Avicii didn't take place without consent of the band: It just took some convincing. And even this convincing didn't concern the song or the collaboration itself, just its inclusion into "Ghost Stories". Considering how Chris keeps encouraging the others to bring in their own ideas and start their own songs - remember how happy he was that Guy started Magic - and his reaction to the question if he's considering a solo career ("No. No. GOD NO!) earlier this year, I don't think there's any need to worry for the future of the band.
