dafid
Hi, While listening to and watching songs of Ghost Stories being played live, I noticed that Guy Berryman uses some effects on his bass, for example during Magic and Always In My Head. Does anyone have a clue what kind of effects these are? I am a total newcomer to effects. And, although I'm searching for it myself as well as trying to learn it directly from watching him play, are there articles on how Guy gets his sound? His technique, most importantly, but also his gear? Thanks for helping me!
MosesTheMarshmallow
I haven't seen any formal sources on GS-era Guy since it's still pretty recent. What I hear (and I may very well be wrong about these) are... -AIMH: during the instrumental after the 1st chorus, I think Guy is using a chorus pedal...such as this: [video=youtube;z6C-6NuhUgU]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6C-6NuhUgU -Magic: I actually don't think Guy is using any special effects. I think there's just a particular gain + EQ setting you need to find. There's a bit of high end being emphasized I think. -Midnight: buy a laser harp. -ASFOS: you can hear the bass isolated in the following video. I hear a bit of chorus and a bit of delay (starting at 1:23). dafid
-Midnight: buy a laser harp. :laugh3: Thanks for the info! As for AIMH: The chorus pedal does sound like what he's using; maybe I'll try that and try to find the right settings. ASFOS: Thank you! That really helped. Magic: Yes, I thought so. During a particular concert, though, I thought I heard him playing it with the same sound of the AIMH part. I could be mistaken. And I just want to say that I love this website so much! Happy New Year to every Coldplayer in a few days.

PianoRocker
As I can see, he uses a Ampeg B15 amp+cab: If you have Amplitube 3 with Ampeg SVX, there is a B15 (newer model) in there. It sounds pretty close to Guy's sound from GS. Besides as mentioned before he seems to use often some overdrive, delays and reverbs and chorus. What I can hear in ASFOS is a very light delay, very subtle overdrive, chorus and reverb. Magic is mostly EQ (especially boosts in the high and cuts in the low+mids) AIMH is mostly bit of a reverb and in the second bass track some delay.
