Wasn't it because the music from Bittersweet was the Rolling Stones'??!!

yeah something like that

wasnt nike involved somehow?

maybe they used their song in a commerical

I don't know about Nike, but here's an article on the Rolling Stones thing from VH1:

"British art-pop group The Verve are being sued again over their phenomenally popular "Bitter Sweet Symphony" single, according to the London Times. Ex-Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham claims he owns the copyright to the orchestral recording of the Stones' "The Last Time" -- which The Verve sampled on the single -- and therefore is owed up to 1 million pounds (about $1.7 million) in royalties. The Verve already have turned over publishing royalties from "Bitter Sweet Symphony" to another onetime Stones manager, Allen Klein, who controls the publishing copyright for "The Last Time." A Verve spokesman said Monday (Jan. 11) that Oldham's dispute is with Klein and Decca Records, not The Verve."

Maybe they don't think they've done anything wrong??!!

Ah, i didn't know that the verve got sued. that really sucks. :/

I luv their last album. Songs like lucky man and the drugs don't work just show how brilliant this band is.

nah cuz you never hear bittersweet symphony on the radio do you?

i thought they broke up

they have a new album out?

Nah, they split up.

Richard Ashcroft has had a couple of solo albums out over here though!

Doesn't handing over the royalties for "Bittersweet Symphony" mean that all future money made off the song goes to that Rolling Stones guy? Oh and Bittersweet symphony was featured on a Nike commercial, if that maybe ties in? I don't care though, I love that song, now I want to here that Rolling Stones song too.

On another note, I've noticed this same thing with two er four other songs and the original writers never made a fuss. John Mellancamp and Jessica Simpson(can't remember the names of the songs, The John Mellancamp one is I think Jack and Diane) Then between 1000 Clowns - kitty cat max and Can't remember the band but its the one in Forrest Gump "Stop, hey whats that sound, everybody look whats goin down". So ya, if anyone remembers that Jessica Simpson song tell me, Ill sue her myself :D
