April 20, 200422 yr Anybody ever heard of this band? They opened up for Four Tet tonight, and they were easily one of the most bizarre acts I've ever seen. I was making a mental list of all the different types of sounds and influences I could hear in their music (their set was, as far as I could tell, a single 45 minute song), and this is what I came up with: - Ravi Shankar - Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Really early Pink Floyd (think "Interstellar Overdrive" or "Careful With That Axe, Eugene") - Yoko Ono (the only "singing" was a little woman wailing atonally into a mic in between bursts on her saxophone) - Charlie Parker (aforementioned INSANE saxophone playing) They also featured what looked like at least 6 different homemade instruments (mostly pots, pans, and deer antlers for percussion, but at least 2 string instruments played with bows) and two conches (you know those seashells that you can blow like a horn). It was completely out of this world.
