war on iraq?

I don't want a war, my only brother, whom is only 19 years old is a United States Marine and he is in 0311, meaning infantry, if war occurs, my only brother will be out there sacrificing his life. I understand that Hussain has committed atrosities to his own people and is considered a thread to the rest of us. Yet, I believe this situation could be handled without a war. Now, I don't understand how Iraquis can't stand on their own, stop and overthrow Hussain, I know he is too powerful and controling, but Iraquis themselves have to stand up for their own democracy. I thought it was absolutely rediculous when I saw in the news that for Iraq's presidential elections Hussain's name was the only one on the ballot and received 100% of the vote. More over why has the US all of a sudden given Hussain the title of being a world thread, what ever happened to capturing Bin Laden?

It is my opinion that since president George W. Bush gave his first anual presidential speech he has been trying to get us to believe that war is the only answer. In his speech he mentioned some of the atrosities that Hussain has committed and the biochemical weapons that he posses. W. Bush also said that about 3000 terrorists had been captured around the world since 911, something that seemed new news to me, and I think W Bush used this information as a tactic to make the public believe that war is the only way to stop all this madness.

I just hope that what ever course W.Bush and his administration decide to take it's for the better and not the biggest regret of thier lives.

The following Statement says alot... Try looking at the FACTS instead of the EMOTIONAL VIEWS!

Protestors Don’t Get It

By Al Ruechel | 02-21-03

Let’s get it straight. I fully support the right of protestors to take their cause to the streets of America. More than 30 years ago, I was a longhaired freak who marched the streets on Moratorium Day with thousands of other Iowa State University students. We were protesting the Vietnam War.

But in all honesty, I wasn’t marching because I understood the travesty of what was happening in Southeast Asia. I was marching because it was the cool thing to do. I was marching because a friend of mine dared me to take to the streets. I was marching because I was rebelling against something, maybe my parents, maybe the government. I had no idea why I was there because I didn’t bother digging for the facts. I was being swept along by emotion. If it feels good, do it! Plus there was this freaky looking chick who… well anyway, you get my meaning.

Times have changed, but looking at all the video of protestors around the world I saw carbon copies of me. Yes, there are those who truly are dedicated to the process of peace and are willing to lay down their lives for it. These are the moms and dads who’ve lost their sons in the prime of their lives to war.

Still, I’d venture that most of those carrying signs haven’t read any of the 17 United Nations resolutions concerning Iraq. They haven’t read any of the briefing papers prepared by the United Nations detailing the atrocities committed by Saddam Hussein. These aren’t fairy tales created by rightwing conservative hawks. These atrocities have been documented by the United Nations. Protestors have forgotten the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi soldiers killed during Saddam’s failed war with Iran in 1980, trying to gain access to another seaport. They’ve forgotten the thousands of Kurds Saddam gassed in the North. They ignore the dissidents who were beheaded and the prisoners who were gassed when Saddam tested his latest chemical arsenal. They ignore the money Saddam has used to build over 30 palaces while over one million Iraqi children have died of starvation and disease. The list goes on and on and on.

Actually, what bothers me most about these protestors is how ill informed they are. I swear you’d think they had been brained washed by Saddam himself. They seem to be able to block out his errors and his mistakes and magnify every blemish in the Bush administration. That’s right. This isn’t about war. Many of these people are stinking poor losers who can’t find closure for the 2000 election.

There was a guy I saw in a T-shirt with a picture of George Bush and the words “International Terrorist” underneath the photo. Is this supposed to be a joke? Is this supposed to be political harpooning? Can you document one single event in the life of our President where he had ordered someone to death? You really believe he lies awake at night licking his chops hoping we go to war? Do you really believe that living under a dictator is superior to living in a society that allows you choice? Take a tape recorder with you to the next protest and play it back when you get home. If you can support with documentation and logic the slogans you toss around like confetti at a drunken brawl then fine… chant away.

But I challenge you to answer these questions. Who is more moral? The man who carries the olive branch when he sees his brother or sister being tortured or raped or murdered; or the man who carries a sword and rights the wrong to defend the helpless even if he must spill his own blood in the process? What should our response be when terrorists control the means to destroy your children? Do you want to wait for something to happen to your wife, your husband, and your child?

Singing songs and carrying signs and praying for peace is wonderful. But history has shown us over and over again it only works as long as everyone is committed to that same peace. It only works when all of us believe in and respect the rights of each other to live in peace. It only works when people choose to be honest and consider the well being of others equal to or superior to their own right to be happy.

The mistake protestors always make over and over again is ascribing goodness and mercy to all mankind. They believe all religions are based on the notion of live and let live. They can’t understand that in life there are truly evil people who only care about themselves. If you are willing to trust your future and the future of all mankind to evil people, dictators who live alone for themselves and their pleasure, than keep on marching, all the way to Baghdad, all the way to North Korea, all the way to the utopia you think exists somewhere over the rainbow.

if geoge bush has never killed any won then how u explain the death penalty? I think that geoge bush is a big threat to the world. Chris Martin agrees!! Yes Saddam is very dangerous but going to war in the middle east is VERY dangerous. The rest of the middle east will hate america even more.

i think claiming that a war in iraq is about oil is a pretty ridiculous thing to say.

that said, i do believe it's inevitable, because no matter what happens, bush seems to be pushing for war. so as far as world peace is concerned i think bush is more of a threat than saddam, because he's the one that's going to start the war, but obviously saddam is more of a threat to his own people and shouldn't have been left in power so long.

to sum things up i don't really know where i stand. i just think going to war is not a decision to be taken lightly. unfortunately that decision seems to have been made months ago whether the american public agrees or not.

[

:-o

I agree about the oil thing. Its staring us right in our faces that saddam hussein is gonna blow the world up or do somethin along those lines if we dont act now, so whats this oil business about? I think thats aload of crap. george bush and tony blair know more than they let on. But i dont get why everyone is makin george bush and tony blair look like the bad guys, have we forgotten who this war is all about? theyr tryin to save our world, saddam hussein is doin the opposite. but the thing is, what if saddam hussein uses his weapons because we've used force on him??????????

what do u think is gonna happen? im scared!!!

1st and the most important NO WAR, I don't support war in any way.

Bush wants war and thats a fact. He say he's going to declair "state of war" with or without the UN support. Hussein is not a good person, ok, we all know that but the only reason why Bush is so obsese ( I don't know how you spell it) is for the oil and to "control" the world. USA problem is that they enter in someone elses bussines ----- I start talking about somenthing and mixed everything so read carefully please----- If it is for terrorism, Arabi Saudi provide more terrorist than Iraq ( USA ally), Bush have no prove that they links with Al Qaeda . If it is because they say it's not democracy, there are also countryes in Africa that are under mandatory and USA doesn't care. They dn't have any base for attack Iraq. Besides they are soborning the member of the UN, Chile is one and I don't think Bush and Blair's call where for telling the presindent "Hello.. how are you?" T The only thing they want is to control the oil. Like when it was thwe Cold war stuff and they fuck Chile and the economy because they needed a escuse because we had a Socialist goverment and they didn't want another goverbent like the Cuban in America, and then they support the "Right Party" and their killing because the needed to be sure that they wouldn't have another socialist country in America....... and you know what they say after they support killing for their own interest ( and some of the country, after USA intervention) " We are really sorry for what happened in Chile, we are not proud of that part of USA history" ...... I bet in 20 year the USA goverment will say - when they are asked about Iraq - " We are really sorry for what happened in Iraq, we are not proud of that part of USA ".

  • 3 weeks later...

at berlin there was a protest of all school, but it was shit.

it seemed to me that no one actually cared about the war itself but more about destroying our nice environment and not having to be at school. :(

there have been really better ones here, where people really protested against war. but now that the war began it's not necessary anymore?

i didn't expect so many students to be that ignorant.

I went to an anti-war protest a couple of weeks ago in downtown toronto. Personally, i think that our government was paying attention to them, b/c they made the decision to not accompany the U.S. in their war. I thought that it was just important to be there and see it for myself.

well hey thats just what i think u can think what u want but suddam is an evil man
i quite understand that, but he invaded a country without un permission and isnt that surly what the americans are doing, the war is elegal and why has it taken gb 15 years to take action, why now, why now? is it mayby because they cant find binladen, or the oil is running low? questions that need to be answered. There is a really interestin thread somwhere else about this topic all about war slogans. This isnt about tyring to stop the war any more but about reabelling against the people who have rebelled against us. The government canot ignore thousands of school kids bunking off lessons to protest. or can they?
