I have the same feeling about their early EPs. They may not have technical perfection but they are so beautiful and atmospheric - I love them !!!

It's a fact, he just cannot sing the falsettos in, for example, Fix You, as purely and cleanly as he used to. If its any consolation, he really had an extraordinarily beautiful and pure singing voice - I would even say the best voice in contemporary non-classical music !

I think Chris's voice has been at its peak during the AROBTTH and X&Y Eras and then slowly started to decline due to age and the strain of the huge X&Y and Viva world tours, and later the MX world tour. I think that unfortunately his voice is now irreversibly damaged. :(

That was largely due to the way people responded. Some people apparently still find it hard to let ANY kind of criticism towards Coldplay stand here without bashing it. I agree that the OP's post was not carefully written argument and more an anger rant (and that wish on CM was unnecessary), but let's say I do understand where that anger comes from.

Of all Gilmour solo albums I only like this one and On an Island, but On An Island was miles better. About Rattle That Lock, well I don't really like the title track (minus the SNCF jingle, which I had noticed and recorded myself when I was in Paris !). I quite liked the instrumental tracks and Faces Of Stone and Today, although of course none of the tracks compare to Pink Floyd work.

I didn't know that, very sorry to hear :( It's true, I feel X&Y has a particularly healing effect for someone in distress (probably because of its emotional songs and themes of insecurity and comfort) - that's one of the reasons why I love it so much. Sorry about your cat. Did you name her after the Coldplay song or was it coincidence ? May I ask why you are in pain most nights ? Are these late effects of the accident/surgery ? Feel hugged :)

I like Up with the Birds too but I must admit it is not among Coldplay's best for me. But nice to hear that it touches you so deeply. Everyone is touched by different songs - we are all unique human beings :)

Both VLV videos did not live up to the greatness of the song...you could have done so much better a cinematic video that corresponded to the song. Especially the first (official) one is awful; when I first saw it I thought the singer is mad, and everytime I rewatch it it still makes me doubt his sanity.

UFO is imho the better of the two, but still don't really like Chris's vocals there !

Oh I see. But yeah, it's questionable if that's a good idea with Chris's current vocal state. It's a shame, his voice and singing used to be sublime.

David Gilmour - Rattle That Lock album
