I can. :P Austrian and German people tend to have a different accent when they speak English. Maybe not in that song but I can usually tell where our German speaking customers are from.
  2. Younger. I think it's mainly because I don't wear tons of make up like most girls around here. I sometimes still get ID'd and I'm in my twenties. My friends and I had a few drinks in town last year and some girl came up to my friend and asked her if she was celebrating her GCSE results. She graduated two years ago.
  3. Same, they usually think I'm antisocial because I'm shy and don't really say a lot when I'm with people I don't know. Some also think that I'm arrogant.

I've got a Mac Book Pro and I really like it but having a Mac sometimes causes problems because my uni and my worplace only have PCs and the formatting always gets messed up when I open my documents there. So annoying.
  5. Although it would very awkward the rejection might actually be less hurtful because they'd be less likely to take it personal if that makes sense. I'd be shocked and I'd probably be a bit upset because our friendship might never be the same again.
  6. Congrats! Good luck with your studies!
  7. that I got an offer from Newcastle University
  8. I'm studying English Literature and I'm gonna graduate this summer.
  9. Oh I see, it's different here. I've applied for Masters and I'm gonna hear from the universities in the next few weeks or months. I'm really nervous, I have no idea where I'm gonna end up next year. :embarrassed: That's alright then, just take your time. Maybe your work experience could help you to decide what you wanna do? Even voluntary work might be a good idea.
  10. Have you applied for uni yet? A part-time job sounds like a good idea, you could earn some money and you'd have plenty of for your hobbies as well.
  11. I moved away for university and I've had a great time. I didn't like living at home very much so it was a very easy decision for me but I'm sure you'd be alright. As someone else said, you can always go home from time to time. I'd say go for it if the other university's better.
  12. I'd definitely try to find a job. I'd probably get bored very easily and you wouldn't be able to do much if you have no money. Also I don't think it would be possible to save money if you were on benefits in the UK. If you get a job now your workplace might also keep you on when you're going to uni.

I'm sorry this happened to you, must have been so scary. The police actually came to check the doors of all student houses in my area when I was in first year. They told us that our door wasn't safe and that the locks needed replacing but the landlord didn't do anything about it. This was two months before we all moved out, still it shouldn't really take him more than two months to change the locks. Btw I'm pretty confident that most student landlords don't change the locks when new people move in, which I find rather worrying.
  14. German, French, Mathematics, Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), Geography, History, P.E., R.E., Fine Arts, Cooking, Textiles English wasn't compulsory but we had to do Textiles and Cooking. I didn't think they were holding me back really. I however, feel that's it's rather unfair that we had to do 9 subjects for A Level. Having gone to school in Switzerland turned out to be a massive disadvantage when applying for British universities.
  15. ^ It's like they're trying too hard to be Scottish. I remember when we went to Scotland for a week, we decided not to buy any presents in Edinburgh because we couldn't be bothered taking it all the way to Glagow and then back to Liverpool. However, it turned out that there were hardly any touristy shops in Glasgow and we really struggled to find presents for the family.
  16. My friend's at uni in London and she doesn't like it very much so I guess I'm a bit biased. I don't think it's got much to do with London though, she just doesn't like living in a big city.
  17. Do they get vouchers? Ours get a full refund if they return it within 28 days.
  18. It was an exchange. It's ridiculous if you ask me. If our managers think it hasn't been used (or happens to like the customer) we have to take it back no matter what.
  19. Sorry I forgot to mention, it was an exchange. They exchanged it for a bigger size because their child had grown out of it.
  20. Thanks a lot! Yeah working in a cafe or take away would be fine, I'm hoping to take French lessons too so a flexible job would be good, I guess. I'd like to work with French people, I understand quite a lot but I find it difficult to talk. I've got A Level French but haven't used the language in four years and I've forgotten a lot, which is one of the reasons why I'm hoping to go to France this summer. My boyfriend would have to work in an English company though because he speaks no French at all.
  21. We have to take stuff back that's been used IF our managers think the customer is trustworthy. A customer recently brought children's clothes back and I didn't wanna take it because it was blatantly obvious that the child had grown out of it (they said they bought it a week ago but they had lost their receipt and the clothes looked like they had been washed) but I had to take it anyway.
  22. What type of job are you hoping to get? The minimum wage is very low if you're younger than 21 so you might struggle if you're thinking of doing retail or waitressing work. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/TheNationalMinimumWage/DG_10027201 As for the cities, I don't really like Edinburgh, it's far too touristy for my liking. I much prefer Glasgow. I don't know if I would like to live in London, although I've just applied to a university there. I might actually end up there because the uni is good and it would be quite stupid to turn them down if I get an offer from them and don't get into my first choice uni. I'd be so scared to actually move there though.
  23. No, it doesn't bother me. Our customers do it all the time and I really don't mind. I've been ridiculously busy with uni and work this year so I've ordered most of my stuff online. I'm actually more likely to return things if I ordered them online. I sometimes keep things that I bought in a shop because I can't be bothered to go to town and queue for ages.
  24. Have you thought about studying in the UK/ Europe? If you just wanna go for a year or so, you might be able to come here as an exchange student. What type of work would you be looking for? I used to work with an American guy in my old job and he really struggled financially. He had to have at least £800 in his account so he would be able to pay for a return flight if he had to leave, which was a lot of money for him and the job was quite badly paid.
