  1. A guy at work gets quite a lot of abuse from scallies because he's got long-ish hair and shops at Topman. I think it happens a lot around here.
  2. Yep. Emotions do exist obviously but you're right, most Swiss people don't really show them.
  3. What Reilly said. Also workers in the fast food industry don't get paid very well and it's a way to save money. It might not be a lot to you but it does make a difference if you're a single mum with three kids. You got a point there. Some people did give me funny looks but I didn't really care as it was only a temporary job. I think it was mainly because I'm quite skinny and they assumed that I was trying to lose weight. One woman was very proud of the company though. She actually felt offended when a customer asked for a McFlurry or a Happy Meal.
  4. I hardly ever swear when I speak German. English people always want me to teach them German swear words and I honestly don't know that many (that you could actually use without sounding completely ridiculous anyway). Maybe it's just me though. People didn't really swear where I lived.
  5. I worked at Burger King for a little while and they used to give us a free meal but we were only allowed certain things (fries, a burger & a fizzy drink). I used to take my own packed lunch to work most of the time because I was worried that I'd put on weight but a lot of people won't do that because it's cheaper and more convenient to eat at work. I think they should at least try to offer healthy alternatives.
  6. Thanks! I completely forgot about this.
  7. Possibly even though I don't think it should really.
  8. Surely her style doesn't make her any less talented!
  9. Done it the other day. I got 33, I think. :embarrassed:
  10. Totally unrelated but my housemate wasted £8 on the phone to Man City's ticket office today and didn't even get to speak to a person. They sure know how to make money!
  11. I'm pretty sure my mum wanted to have children. Not sure about my dad. It isn't something you normally discuss with your kids.
  12. I'm the opposite. I can't be bothered to make an effort with my clothes and make up if I'm not going out/ only going to the super market.
  13. I don't think so. It wasn't as bad when I was younger but it gets greasy really quickly now so I have to wash it all the time.
  14. I have to wash my hair every day. It gets greasy if I don't.
  15. Is the metrolink a lot cheaper than the train? I only ever got the train to Altrincham and it's like £4 for a return if I remember correctly.
  16. I find cheek-kissing very awkward. I definitely definitely prefer hugs.
  17. Halloween wasn't popular at all in Switzerland when I was a kid. I first heard about it when we went to Disneyland when I was like 7 and I remember asking my mum what it was. :laugh3:
  18. I eat less when I'm on my period. I'm not as hungry as usual and I always feel fat for some reason.
  19. I wouldn't go anywhere near the house. I don't wanna believe in those kind of things but somehow I do. :embarrassed:
  20. How old are you in 8th grade? I went to school in Switzerland and we didn't start learning English until we were 14 because they thought French was more important as it's spoken in the country.
  21. Thats so creepy. I used to work in an old church. They use it as an arts centre now and I worked in the office. Anyway everyone said the building was haunted. Apparently a priest hung himself in the basement years ago. I didn't really believe any of it but I once heard footsteps when I was on a late on my own. Another member of staff thought she had seen a weird shadow that moved. She said she thought she was imagining it at first and she tried to stay calm because she didn't wanna scare her son but he started screaming all of a sudden and ran towards her.
  22. I have a German name too. I don't like it because no one knows how to pronounce it.
  23. I'd probably take it because I don't like my surname. It's annoying because I always have to spell it for other people.
  24. Find out what other people said about the text (if you're at Secondary school you could use the likes of Wikipedia or Sparknotes, if you're doing it for A Levels you might wanna look at literary critics). Think about the historical background of the text. Read the author's biography. Always back up your points with direct quotes from the text.
