LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
I totally glanced over your Kevin Parker mention. Yes please. Although I hope he's not in the category of Thom Yorke who probably is "too cool" to associate with Coldplay. I bet Thom is low key salty still about Coldplay ripping off their sound in the late 90s/early 2000s and going on to be 10x more popular than Radiohead ever was. I'm sure an imprint of Tame Impala on Coldplay would serve them very well.

Coldplay, Thom Yorke and Post Malone on one track is my wet dream. It would shatter the internet.

Right? They go for a rare rap feature and it's freaking Big Sean lol. Nothing against Big Sean (I like his verse on Miracles), but they could do better. Jay-Z was a great feature. I'd love to see another Kanye collab. Or Kendrick, Eminem. Post Malone would be sick. I mean preferably a limit to collabs, but if they are to do a rap one, hopefully someone better than Big Sean. If I had to pick 3 collabs for Coldplay- Post Malone, John Mayer and Kanye West. I'd love to see them collab with OneRepublic, Imagine Dragons, Bastille, Jack Johnson, Muse, Paul McCartney, U2... but it seems when Coldplay go for a collab, they go for someone who has drastically different abilities than them.

No they're not breaking up I was joking. It's just been too damn long since we heard anything from the band. But yeah to your other point, I am very curious what J+W+G+P feelings are towards the musical direction the band has taken in the last couple years. Jonny, Will and Guy aren't very convincing when they are up there bopping along to a song that features Beyonce and says "I'm feeling drunk and high". I'm sure Chris would like to keep going towards a more pop/mainstream sound while the rest would rather try to go more experimental while also appealing to the core Coldplay fans. And I think, going forward, they will continue to compromise with albums featuring pop songs mixed with more stripped/classic Coldplay style. Unless the whole band are on the pop train, I'm just speculating.

Coldplay: Life in Technicolor by Debs Wild (book out on 4 October)
Was just thinking about this recently too. Of all the interviews and Coldplay material I've indulged in, we really don't get much insight into the creative process. If I could have one thing from the band (other than brilliant new music) it would be hours of footage of the band writing/recording+ especially their time in the studio with Brian Eno. Just watched the VH1 Storytellers episode of the band during the X&Y era which had some interesting insight from the band (had just discovered this, so it was a pleasant surprise!) For those who haven't seen and are interested in some song background and great performances of early hits, this is worth a watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBOz5Afvceo

Random Coldplay thoughts...
I had tried to find someone to go to Radiohead on Saturday in Boston with me, but no one was able to. THEN TONIGHT I READ THAT CHRIS WAS AT THE CONCERT WITH AARON PAUL (BREAKING BAD) Literally the lead singer of my favorite band, with a star of my favorite ever TV show, watching one of my other favorite bands in my favorite city. Life is cruel sometimes. The things I would do to have a beer with Chris Martin and watch Radiohead...

This is my second (to Toronto) favorite X&Y era gig that's recorded. Plus Chris climbing the balcony to hug Noel Gallagher during In My Place!

What is your favourite Coldplay song today?
VLV and AROBTTH are the two albums I can keep listening to in my car and never get sick of.

Hot Take- Brothers and Sisters E.P. is really bad 60% of The Blue Room is pretty good. See You Soon is the best pre-debut album release. And I really love the early version of Don't Panic, but I can see why they changed it for Parachutes.

Don't Let It Break Your Heart!
Good for you for being true to yourself. It's much harder than it sounds, especially if you're parents don't accept you for who you are. My older sister recently came out as gay to me, and the crazy thing is, I really had no clue nor saw it coming. That just shows how difficult it is to express those feelings, since she never led on about it at all. Luckily my parents and entire family are very accepting. I feel for people who aren't as fortunate in that sense, like you. But just know that your parents don't define who you are or your happiness. They are people who have brought you into the world, provided and guided you. I always got the sense that people with difficult family situations usually come out stronger and more battle tested in the end. The best success stories usually come from rough beginnings. I hope it gets better for you, and always know, you aren't alone. And know that most people really don't judge you for your sexual choices! Besides, who cares what people think? F*** people's opinions about your life. Ever since my sister came out, it barely even matters to me. I don't really think about it, the only hard part for me is knowing she felt the need to hold onto it for so long. Even with all the division in the world and seemingly overwhelming hatefulness in the media, in my experience, most people are very accepting and generally good people. The world is a good place. We live in a beautiful world. Anyways, who cares about anything else in life? Earth has been around for over 4 billions years and we all happen to be living at the same time as mother***** Coldplay! That's enough to keep me going through any life issue.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
I think by the next tour he meant the 2017 leg of the tour. And then they must've decided against playing it regularly. It's not really a stadium rocker of a song. I doubt that he meant they are planning to play Hypnotised on a tour in 4 or 5 years.

This is a good discussion topic! I would think SJLT, AOAL, and HFTW. Anything beyond that would be surprising (assuming their next tour will be following another full blown commercial album). Here's my wild setlist guess based on pure speculation lol Locks: Yellow The Scientist Clocks Fix You Viva la Vida Paradise Charlie Brown A Sky Full of Stars Adventure of a Lifetime Hymn for the Weekend Something Just Like This (ugh) -Like 4 more random old songs from the following (Trouble, Us Against the World, In My Place, Politik, GPASUYF, Violet Hill, ETIAW, Everglow, Magic, Up&Up, Don't Panic) -Then like 5 LP8 songs -A couple covers/interludes Damn, the things I'd do for them to reintroduce any of Daylight, Shiver, DAAHF, Lovers in Japan, Politik, Square One, Cemeteries of London, Swallowed in the Sea, Strawberry Swing, Everything's Not Lost, Life is for Living, Warning Sign, LiTii

You came to coldplaying.com, created an account, and posted your first comment on a random thread from 11 years ago about Saddam Hussein's yacht. What lol :joy::joy: Damn we really are in the midst of a band hiatus.

I think they said they wouldn't be touring until 2021 at the earliest, which should mean we will get a release before that point. And who knows, they said they wouldn't be touring for a while after MX, and we still got an intimate, non-touring album in the meantime!

===The ultimate Oldplaying Thread===S, BS, TBR, P, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, PM===
@ColdplayingMama I agree that I love X&Y and everything that's great about it and everything that is flawed about it. But everything that the band and Brian Eno perceived as flawed with X&Y is exactly what spawned the greatness of VLV, and eventually MX. I guess sometimes bad things lead to even greater things than could have imagined (This is a very Chris Martin-like approach of thinking lol) I agree with you that X&Y really is there core sound in the prime of the band, with Chris in his prime, vocally, as well. It truly followed the natural rock trajectory of Parachutes and AROBTTH, and everything after X&Y is a completely different era of Coldplay (which I also think is great, until AHFOD happened, but that's just my opinion and anyone who loves AHFOD I can completely understand as well). Overall X&Y is so pure and brilliant and among their best work imo, but I can understand how some people feel it's repetitive and how the exposure of the band until 2005/2006 led to people simply being sick of their sound by the time X&Y was everywhere. So I don't think necessarily that people think X&Y is a bad album, but the band was just overexposed at that point(?) X&Y was just kind of a mixture of the band losing their way a bit (Phil wasn't there for most of the recording, or something), the joke from the film 40 Year Old Virgin, the band being worn out a bit on radio for multiple years, and the band themselves not liking specific recordings of the hits of that era. Plus a lot of people who don't like Coldplay quickly jump to Chris' nasally, high register early in his career sounding whiny and annoying. But, looking back, all these things don't take away from the great music that the X&Y era produced (especially among us Coldplay fans lol). It's mostly the casual public that are turned off by X&Y songs, and that in turn affected the bands perception of it, it seems.

That song is a masterpiece. My best friend who makes fun of Coldplay and is a Radiohead elitist says Trouble is the only song he likes from the band. On that topic, I've realized lately that I think most people like a number of Coldplay songs, but simply don't like to admit it.

I watched the film Bruno with some friends this evening (very funny movie, btw). I almost jumped off the couch when I saw a Chris Martin cameo at the end! I was about to look up the year of the movie, but when I saw Chris Martin wearing his VLV era gear, I didn't have to!

The idea that Guy or Jonny is pissed that Chris doesn't want to work on new music right now is hilarious. I can't see that at all.
