  4. Conor Oberst Produced by Conor Oberst with the help of engineer … [read more]and longtime associate Andy LeMaster, the album was recorded in Tepoztlán, Morales, Mexico. Creating a temporary studio in a mountain villa for a one-month period this winter, Conor and a tight-knit group of fellow musicians, who aptly call themselves The Mystic Valley Band, crafted a lush and beautiful record that evokes the deep sense of harmony in which they lived and worked during that month. 6. Snow Patrol Steps Into The 'Sun' Snow Patrol's fifth studio album has been christened "A Hundred Million Suns" and will be released in October, according to an online post from frontman Gary Lightbody. The band recently spent two months recording at Grouse Lodge in Ireland and has also logged time at Berlin's Hansa Ton Studios, where such famed albums as U2's "Achtung Baby" and David Bowie's "Low," "Lodger" and "Heroes" were tracked. "A Hundred Million Suns" is the follow-up to 2006's "Eyes Open," which has sold 1.2 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group is planning a handful of small shows in Ireland in support of the album, but details have yet to announced.

  10. Franz Ferdinand reveal 'wild' new album secrets Franz Ferdinand have revealed that they have been using some rather unconventional recording methods for the forthcoming new album, which they are currently finishing off in Glasgow with producer Dan Carey. Frontman Alex Kapranos told BBC Newsbeat that the band had been employing some "wild" recording techniques, which involved guitarist Nick McCarthy climbing into the woodwork of the studio. Kapranos said: "We have been doing a lot of experimenting in the studio with Dan. He's made us record the album in a much wilder way than we're used to. "We did this thing in the studio called the Doppler Effect which is like when you are on the high street and you hear an ambulance go past and the sound of the siren pitch changes when it passes you. "We were doing something similar on a track called 'What She Came For'. We were recording the guitar in this big hall next to our studio and Nick climbed into the ceiling and fed a microphone cable down through the rafters above the guitar speaker. "Then when we were recording Dan was swinging this microphone above the guitar amp and we got this incredible sound." The follow-up to 2005's 'You Could Have It So Much Better' is due out in early 2009.
  11. New details of the bust-up between Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke and ageing Sex Pistols singer John Lydon emerged today as the Foals' tour manager revealed that three members of the Oxford band suffered injuries during last weekend’s fight. Foals tour manager Nick Jenkin today called Lydon’s description of the event at Barcelona’s Summercase Festival “totally untrue,” and said he watched Okereke being punched by the Sex Pistols’ entourage while the band’s frontman, known as Johnny Rotten, taunted the Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson, after he went to the aid of the Bloc Party singer. Jenkin also told Times Online that Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis tried to help Okereke but was put in a sleeper hold by a security guard until he passed out and was then handcuffed as he lay on the ground. “He had a boot on his back,” Jenkin said. Foals bassist Walter Gervers suffered a black eye and guitarist Jimmy Smith was shoved through a barrier during the brawl on Saturday afternoon, Jenkin said. Okereke, a Liverpudlian of Nigerian descent, claimed on Monday that he was racially abused and beaten up after he approached Lydon and asked if he had any plans to reform his onetime band Public Image Ltd. He said The Sex Pistols frontman became “intimidating and aggressive”, while his entourage responded with a racist tirade, including the statement, “your problem is your black attitude,” before attacking him. He also alleged the Kaiser Chiefs and Foal members who came to his aid were attacked. Lydon, however, denied the allegations, accusing Okereke of lying about what he described as a “perfect evening”. He also rubbished the racism claims, saying the Sex Pistols' fans were made up of a cross-section of races and cultures. "Its a shame that the wonderful world of the media is riddled with nonsense like this," he said, before calling on Okereke to “grow up and learn to be a true man.” But Jenkin’s claims today threw doubt on Lydon’s story. The tour manager said: “Kele looked in pretty bad shape. The Sex Pistols were in everyone’s face, obviously looking for violence.” Earlier today Neon Neon frontman Gruff Rhys also leapt to Okereke's defence, telling MTV the brawl was "horrific" and that the singer's version of events was "absolutely true".

  20. Noel Gallagher: 'Radiohead's 'In Rainbows' was free marketing' Oasis' Noel Gallagher has said that he thinks that Radiohead's 'pay-what-you-like' method of releasing recent album 'In Rainbows' was a "free marketing" ploy. He told BBC 6music that his own band would not be following in the footsteps of Thom Yorke and co by letting fans choose how much to pay for their forthcoming new album, 'Dig Out Your Soul'. "That's not our bag," he said. "I didn't spend a year in the most expensive studio in England, with the most expensive producer in America, and the most expensive graphic designer in London to then give it away. Fuck that." Speaking about Radiohead's 'In Rainbows' release, Gallagher said, "To be honest, to me it looked like marketing – a great way of getting a load of marketing for free really. But good for them. That's what they do, they're rebels and outsiders."
