You need a DVD-Rewriter special thing for your disk drive. if you dont have a dvd-rw you can just forget about it.

Open up iPod updater, plug your iPod in, and try to update it. If you can't, then you have the latest (which it will label on the screen.) As for generations, The first gen had the clickwheel and the four buttons on the top Second gen looked like it but was a little different can't remember the difference. Third gen was basically the iPod we have now Fourth gen is clickwheel.

L. M. A. O. If he doesn't know how to update his iPod, he needs help, or probably shouldn't even own an iPod. Click+drag from limewire doesn't work. You have to search your system for the file, then drag+drop into iTunes, then clikc File>Update iPod
