I went directly into college. But in my sophomore year I had a 6-month internship and felt I didn't want to do engineering. Looking back, the real issue was that I didn't want to be treated like a slave. The people were nice. But I couldn't handle the solitude and not being able to even listen to music while I stared at the same old CAD program all day. Now, I'm doing similar work. But the atmosphere is much more open. And I'm at a small company, so I see things from start to finish. At the time, I thought it was the field I didn't want. You should reason with yourself about it. I quit engineering and finished English with minors in journalism & philosophy. I also thought I'd be moving to Mexico, but other things changed. I work now in an office where I was working part time, because they knew how to use my skillset. I'm paid well, have a great boss, and lots of flexibility. It's easier to get a job with the people you know. If you can start in the field you like at a place you like, even at the very bottom, finding a job later on will be much easier. Try to balance the work and study throughout your college career. Most likely you won't have as much flexibility later in life. I hope that helps. I think the main thing to remember is to reason/ponder on it like you would on an evil math problem. That's when you get an epiphany.

That might not be such a bad idea. Most people start off in college with no idea what they want to do. If you have a job for a while you'll get a better idea and make money instead of going into too much debt.

I am married. And I honestly prefer being married. Being single is not so bad. But being with someone who makes you miserable or just fights over petty things is far worse. It depends if you're ready/mature (just a little) and who you're with.
