sad songs
Mothers of the disappeared... being Argentinian, it hurts... 'Mother' by John Lennon is the one that most gets me... I think of it as the most sincerely sang tune I've ever heard, the way the man screams in the end, calling his mother... oooh it brings tears to my eyes. Then I would name 'Goodbye Blue Sky' by Pink Floyd 'Sparks' by Coldplay 'How to Disappear Completely ' by Radiohead

anybody watch jools holand?
I used to watch it on the People & Arts Channel... but now I can't find it in the timetable.. I think they've cancelled it here. I agree with you, I think it's a great show. He invites musicians from all over the world. I remember seeing Olodum once, which is a percussion group from Brazil, and seeing a Jamaican guy who had met Bob Marley... I mean it has a wide range of performances, apart from the classical rock & pop ones, and Jools is also a very good musician himself. So I think a thread for him is well deserved ;)

War: The uselessness of anti-war protests
Yeah I finally agree on the last thing. And I guess not everything is wrong, but I doubt of their values very much. And I don't like the idea of a country with such power; I doubt of the way they use it. And I certainly do have my reasons for... Anyway, as Charly García, an artist here would say: 'cada cual tiene un trip en el bocho, difícil que lleguemos a ponernos de acuerdo...' (which is something about how different what is going on in our heads is, in general, not just you and me, and how hard it's for us to agree...)

War: The uselessness of anti-war protests
I wish I could agree on that. But, well, I don't- I would be more careful on the generalisation:'It brushes off well onto other countries'... And yeah, I know about the loans, but it was a triangle, they had to pay the others... And on the destroyed Germany, I wasn't just talking about U.S.; I meant the Alliads. Anyway, quoting Stipe: 'Now I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right.' It sums up pretty well what I think of this war, It sums up what I think of Saddam and Bush (They're equals, one is just nicer...) and what I think of the pairs of wrongs U.S. now and then use to make a right... I wish one day they could just stop for a minute and see what pillars they rights are being builded on...

War: The uselessness of anti-war protests
Reilly: Thank America? America did what was convenient for them. Don't come to me with that 'thank America' thing- Earlier it was Comunism, now it's Terrorism. U.S. will always find an -ism to justify their pretty democratic genocides. Anyway, I was talking about the pre Nazi years. First post war. The state of Germany was terrible and the Alliads left it alone, humilliated and destroyed. I think it was naive for them to think nobody would react to that... then Hitler came and they were fascinated at first, U.S. dominant class loved him! Later, he 'became' a monster and they were surprised... And Marshall Aid, in my opinion, was a way to buy Europe and Japan (very close geographically to China and Russia) so they wouldn't be under Comunist influence (both Italy and France had strong Comunist Parties). In the Japan case, I guess it was also a bit of guilt for Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the worst tragedies ever but of course politics and war strategies justify it and besides, Pearl Harbour had to be revenged... I'm sick of hearing U.S. embraced as heroes and saviors, they just do what is good for them, there's nothing heroic about that.

The Bob Marley thread
I think he was a genius. Jut listening to one of his songs show what a magnificient man he was. He put his heart in each one of them; he was a commited man, he believed in his causes and showed it proudly and brilliantly in his music. I also think he had a limitless creativity... the music was full of the exact combination of strenght, harmony and beauty: you had the percussion on one side, the bass leading the way, on the other hand the brasses giving the style, his sweet precious voice speaking such powerful ideas and the I Threes singing along... I guess those three women made the most beautiful backing vocals ever!!!!! Besides, he was the first and best Third World Star! I really love him, he inspires me everyday. Emancipate yourselves from mental slavering, none but ourselves can free our minds...

War: The uselessness of anti-war protests
uuuh. O.K. I understand your point. But still don't buy the 'by any means necessary' thing, which U.S. Governments seem to believe as a Bible... Anyway, I find the Nazi example a bit sour... just go deeper into History. U.S. was a bit responsible for Hitler; I don't see them as the saviors of anything and never will.

War: The uselessness of anti-war protests
So you still think it was all for the freedom of Iraki people? As I see it, Bush is sick with fear, he is blind with fear. The only thing he wants is power, to feed himself, to keep strong. And at any cost. I remember the words of the Yoda 'Fear is the path to the dark side, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering'. I sense much fear in Bush. I really do. So what does he do? He just goes and attacks those who can potentially put in danger the good health of his beloved 'America', commands a genocide (see the numbers, just see them, that is not a war!) , and, casually, gets millions, and billions, and countless dollars in oil, just to prove the world that he has THE largest, if you know what I mean, and that he can do whatever he wants. And there, just to justify it, makes people believe it's for a good cause. 'America' (I doubt the term, I am American too and I am certainly not from the U.S.) has always done that. I live it, I suffer it. And this thread started with a critic to Shakira... well that little idealistic  girl happens to be dating the son of my former President De la Rua. Like father like son, of course... and not quite a good father: his terrible government, which, like all in my country for years and years, followed the magic instructions of the I.M.F. and from our bosses in the North ('America' again), ended when a HUGE manifestation in the Government Square (with repression and deaths, it was terrible) forced him to leave the charge in a helicopter. Of course, there was a political strategy in the middle, I'm not that naive, but social protest here had some impact, believe it or not, I was here, I lived it. People aren't aware about how powerful they are just because it's what we are taught, it's what THEY want us to believe. We are just important in the elections, and then we should shut our mouths... But I still believe in ourselves and in our right to say 'No, democracy doesn't give you the right to do this, you fucking bastard'.

What does ur screen name means???
La Maga is the main female character from the novel 'Rayuela' (I guess there is a translation as "Hopscotch") by Julio Cortázar, which is my favourite book. La Maga means 'The Magician' or something like that. She is a very special, sensitive, irrational woman, whose life is sort of a mess. She ends up drowning in a river... :(

The Pink Floyd Thread

Craziest thing u've evar done in a concert??
I followed my friend into the moshpit of the Chili Peppers concert in the River Plate Stadium. And he is a fucking insane suicide. I got out all hurt and couldn't get away the pain in my arms and legs for days... I opened my way among the people with my tiny arms, just to stay near and not losing him, while he was all wild over there... I survived 'Give it away', I guess I can survive everything... oh, what a pathetic fool in love I can be sometimes...

Your favorite lyrics from any song
...wax me, mould me, heat the pins and stab them in, you have turned me into this, just wish that I was bullet proof... ...you're just like an angel, your skin makes me cry, you float like a feather in a beautiful world... whenigoforwardyougobackwardsandsomewherewewillmeet RADIOHEAD Breathe, breathe in the air Don't be afraid to care Leave but don't leave me Look around and choose your own ground For long you live and high you fly And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry And all you touch and all you see Is all your life will ever be... FLOYD Whenever I'm alone with you You make me feel like I am home again Whenever I'm alone with you You make me feel like I am whole again Whenever I'm alone with you You make me feel like I am young again Whenever I'm alone with you You make me feel like I am fun again However far away I will always love you However long I stay I will always love you Whatever words I say I will always love you I will always love you THE CURE 'There ain't no space and time to keep our love alive, we have existence and that's all we share...' VERVE Your light eclipsed the moon tonight We are only what our minds assume The stars are the greatest thing you've ever seen and they are there for you, for you alone, you are the everything. R.E.M. 'Everybody seems to think I'm lazy, I don't mind, I think they're crazy. Running everywhere at such a speed Till they find there's no need. Please, don't spoil my day, I'm miles away and after all I'm only sleeping' ...pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind possessing and caressing me... THE BEATLES I wish I was the verb 'to trust' and never let you down. PEARL JAM She knows the human heart and how to read the stars. Now everything's about to fall apart. I won't be the one who's going to let you down, Maybe you'll get what you want this time around. The trick is to keep breathing I'll tell you something: I am a wolf but I like to wear sheep's clothing. I am a bonfire, I am a vampire I'm waiting for my moment. We all shine on JOHN LENNON Where I go I just don't know I got to got to gotta take it slow When I find my peace of mind I'm gonna give you some of my good time RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS

Yeah, being from Argentina, I know him... and love him. He was a genius, even though he is a very polemic figure in Tango here, because of his whole new different way of interpreting it. He was a revolutionary musician, some people actually hate him...
