Mixtape Exchange no.2
I'm rather late  MY REVIEW ======== Track #1: Cute song, nice intro! I Like the piano bits on it and the singer has a very nice voice :) The song resembles Coldplay's style quite a bit, I like it! This song is getting more powerful in the end which is very good for an intro song :) Track #2: Oh, that's 'Tears In Heaven' by Eric Clapton. Lovely song :) Haven't had it on my pc yet, but now I've got it - cheers ;) Track #3: I know this one as well: 'Everybody's Changing' by Keane. Sounds slightly different, though - is that a special version? Track #4: Radiohead - 'High And Dry'. Actually I don't like Radiohead really that much, but this song - the whole album 'The Bends', actually - is an exception to me - love it! Track #5: Finally another song I don't know! The voice of the singer sounds like Thom Yorke's, but he sings in a language I can't recognize. The rhythm sounds like some kind of a march which is supported by many many instruments - maybe it's even a whole orchestra, I can't really tell. My guess is on Sigur Ros - haven't heard anything of them yet, but this sounds good to me! Track #6: This song starts with "clicking" sounds but as soon as the drums kick in I know what song this is: 'No Cars Go' by the Arcade Fire. It's one of their better songs from the album 'Neon Bible'. But like the Keane song there is something strange going on with this song - this sounds like a live record, it's definitely not the original track. But it sounds cool! Track #7: The Killers - 'Somebody Told Me'. Good song, it's very very loud on this mixtape, though, I got scared away a bit ;) This also is an unusual version of the song - sounds like a live record as well. Track #8: That's an old classic! I don't really know, is it from the 80s? Anyway, this is a disco song and an interesting change in style of this mixtape! ^^ Didn't expect this one to be on it, to be honest hehe Track #9: Okay, back to pop/rock! This song is sung in italian/spanish/portugese, I don't really know, but it reminds me of the good old italo-pop classics hehe This song is okay, there's nothing special or bad about it :) Track #10: I've heard this song before - is it from the 90s? It has a very remarkable singing and the synthesizer-bits are lovely! Track #11: This song has a VERY oriental sound. There's a woman singing and I think she sings in english - it's very hard to understand to me, but I think I get the idea of the song - Something about a 'Harem', haha ;) In the middle of the song electric patterns are added and the beat gets stronger, still accompanied with the oriental sound of violins, pipes and stuff. But to be eintirely honest, this song isn't really my cup of tea - sorry. There's too much electrical stuff in the end, it would've sounded better if it had kept it's initial style. Track #12: Very disco-esque song! The guys singing remind me of the beegees and the bassline and beat invite to move your feet! I like this song very much, I'm curios about the band's name :) Track #13: My girlfriend recognized that song at the first beat :D I was able to recognize Robbie Williams as soon he was starting to sing ^^ This song, 'Misunderstood', is very very beautiful and I think I haven't heard to it properly before, but I can say, that I really like it :) This is a very good last song for a mixtape! :nice: To conclude my review I can say, that I really enjoyed this mixtape :) It was very versatile, mixing many different styles of music. Too bad I knew most of the songs on it already! But I can say, that the songs, that were new to me, got my interest! Especially Track #1 and #5 were lovely, I'd like to know more about them :)

Mixtape Exchange no.2
Hey, ari! That was my mixtape, you came to listen to :) I'm quite glad you liked it :nice: I - indeed - payed special attention to give the mixtape some sort of dynamic, going from slower songs to faster and louder ones and returning to the sound which the mixtape started with. Cool you noticed that :D These were the songs: Goodspeed You! Black Emperor - East Hastings A pretty unknown progressive rockband with a sort of well known song. 'East Hastings' is part of the 28 Days Later OST and - to me - one of the best intro-songs for any mixtape! ;) Grandaddy - Now It's On!Opening song of Grandaddy's second last album 'Sumday'. They've got a quite simple, straightforward style - but also some very deep lyrics. I can also recommend their album 'The Sophtware Slump' Maritime - Young Alumni I discovered Maritime - an american indie-band - some time ago and I still love them! Their songs are always happy, not too serious - this song is just one of their best in my opinion :D R.E.M. - How The West Was Won And Where It Got Us Everybody knows R.E.M.. Still not anybody knows this song - it's very calm, but rythmic and Mr. Stipes singing is just adorable (as always, actually ;) ). It's from the album 'New Adventures In Hi-Fi', which I strongly recommend to any R.E.M.-fan who hasn't got it already. Jimmy Eat World - 23 Magnificent song! The lyrics and guitars are just amazing on this one. The mixtape is 'accelerating' now :D Beatsteaks - Hello Joe A german band from Berlin. They're doing mostly punkrock, but this song is one of their better ones :nice: This song is written about the Clash-frontman Joe Strummer and part of the album 'Smack Smash' Death Cab For Cutie - Blacking Out The Friction The guys from Death Cab For Cutie are well known for their calm and beautiful songs. But Blacking Out The Friction is quite different - rhythmic, mean guitar riffs and powerful drummings. In the end the song is becoming calmer and the mixtape is about to slow down for the finale. Fiddler's Green - Burn The Bridges A german band doing irish (speed-)folk. Very interesting combination and definitely worth a listen! This song indeed resembles reggae a bit and always reminds me of the beautiful island of Ireland. Colin Hay - Overkill Some of you may know this name - Colin Hay was singer and guitarist of the band 'Men At Work' (most famous song: Down Under). Mr. Hay re-released their song 'Overkill' as a solo work and it sounds very beatiful with the acoustic guitars. I discovered it through the TV-series SCRUBS :D Colin Hay appears in the first episode of season 2 bugging J.D. with that song ;) Albert Hammond Jr. - Blue Skies This guy may be a bad (and loud) memory to most of the european coldplay-fans on here ( :laugh3: ), but his first album honestly wasn't that bad! This song is a good example - no screaming and yelling, Albert actually has feelings on this one! Definitely worth to get on the mixtape :) David Gilmour - A Pocketful Of Stones I wanted the last song of my mixtape to be as close to the first song as possible - and this song was just the perfect choice. David Gilmour (in case you don't know: guitarist and singer of Pink Floyd) has such a nice voice which is only topped by his overwhelming work on the guitar. This song ends with a beautiful guitar solo and fades out with the same feeling in your stomach as the first song began. The circle is closed :) In case anybody is interested in the mixtape, you can get it here: http://rapidshare.com/files/153696983/Mixtape.zip.html Thanks to ari for being the "subject" of my mixtape - I'm very glad it turned out to be rather positive :) And thanks to Nina for this amazing event - I'm definitely gonna take part again next time  Hope I'm gonna get the mixtape I have to review soon :)

For those who are attending Uni
I'm studying aeronautical engineering, 3rd year now. The reason I chose that course is, that I like everything about aeroplanes, flying and such and I'd love to participate in constructing a new aeroplane someday :)

I was a bit disappointed after seeing REM, too. They just didn't play my favourite songs during the first hour of the concert :\ I saw better gigs on DVD and TV ;) Michael Stipe is a Legend on stage, though, no question!
