I already had my "oh no they're selling out" moment around MX in 2011. Ten years on and I'm just along for the ride. Coldplay are going to put out a pop album every second album, that's just the way it is now. They still release albums like Everyday Life and songs like Coloratura every now and then so I still think they're worth following. And for whatever it's worth, MOTS is shaping up to be a stronger album than AHFOD. Would I rather Coldplay continued in the direction of VLV? Of course, but I don't see much point in complaining about it now. Pop Coldplay is not my favourite Coldplay by any means, but generally speaking they do a better take on it than most pop artists in the charts. If they are going to do this ultra-radio friendly mainstream pop sound I'd rather hear it done well, and for the most part Coldplay do it well.

I think AROBTTH sounds absolutely brilliant and I would feel disappointed if they wanted to change it. X&Y on the other hand could probably do with a bit more polish

I would argue that Ghost Stories production was utterly perfect for what it was trying to be. Maybe I would've swapped some of the electronic beats for Will's playing but other than that, I don't think it could've been improved. As far as the happy pop albums Coldplay have done, the production has not been so great. Mylo Xyloto was abrasive and loud, even in its quieter moments. AHFOD was an over-compressed EQ disaster which makes me wonder how the hell Stargate gets the work they do. So for MOTS is sounding excellent for what its trying to be. Max Martin is undoubtedly the best producer they could've gotten for this pop sound.

I wish they would reunite with Eno sometimes.

I get why they wouldn't want to play anything as intimate as Daddy, and Arabesque would probably fly over the heads of the SJLT/Paradise crowd, but what's wrong with playing Orphans? Surely they've got to wheel that one out at least.

If it really is a short instrumental track like those on Reddit are speculating (I have my doubts personally), maybe this is where the hidden track is buried.

If Chris's comments on Howard Stern are to be interpreted correctly, this song is instrumental. Really curious to hear how well it connects My Universe and Coloratura, if it even does that at all

I prefer the leak, weirdly. Felt more to-the-point. The released version meanders a bit more imo

I'm trying to imagine The Man Who Swears produced by Max Martin and my brain can't do it. Very interested to hear how this one turns out.
