During Til Kingdom Come: I need someone, someone who hears, Cos we're younger than Duran Duran by 21 years!
  3. WOW!!! I saw TGTBATQ in Warrington last night and they are absolutely amazing. 4 total legends, I can't speak highly enough of them. I can't even describe the sound they make, they're just brilliant in my opinion. This is a good little documentary about the band: http://www.goodbadqueen.com/video/csd.html Damon makes a great point in it about not getting caught up in viewing figures and sales figures and with just making good, different music - totally relevant to us Coldplay fans as Album 4 looks set to be very different from what has previously been made. Also relevant when you look at the negative response X&Y got from many people for being too commercial/different to the 1st 2 albums - it's experimentation, something which Damon Albarn's really got down, if you compare Gorillaz, Think Tank, TGTBATQ with some of the early Blur material. Very exciting and very different. Excellent.
  4. I'd pay to see Coldplay playing harmonicas :P

Hi, this is Will from the band. I’ve sent you this email because the people who run our message board have told me that you are one of the few key members of our online community and We really need your help. First of all, thank you so much for your continued support not only of our band but also of the website and our general online presence. Secondly we are about to totally relaunch our website and with it, change the way that our fans can interact with us and each other. Here’s where you come in: the [official] message board will soon be shut down but we really need you to be at centre of the effort to continue to keep the Coldplay community together through as many channels as is necessary. We have a myspace page and i believe that there are other messageboards and Coldplay fan forums which must carry the torch until the new site is ready. Above from the latest C'Playing newsletter - who received this email from Will???
  8. Just stumbled on this thread months since it first began - thank you for answering my question about preppy clothes and white footwear with black pants lol. I love wearing black/white converse with my black jeans or my sort of grey/blue adidas with black :P
  9. "Coldplay are sell outs" - I love it when people accuse bands of selling out. Do you really think C,J,G,W are 'evil' enough to sit round a table and think of the best way to p**s off their fans who we all know they love and appreciate so much? The fact is that the buck stops with the money making b******s that are the shareholders and the record company big cheeses (no offence intended to any of you who may be record company big cheeses and such like).
  10. Is there any chance that somebody on here with the correct software can rip Chris' radio show to MP3 or WAV or something, because the Radio 1 site usually remove the 'listen again' items after a while :(
  11. Thank you Alyssa you are amazing!!! I didn't mean to come across stroppy in that first post, I'm just used to getting smart remarks off other boards whenever I post questions about instruments (I won't name the band's sites) ;) Thanks so much for tabbing that out for me, it's much clearer now being able to see it written down and relating it to what I'm hearing. Thank you so much again! :)
  12. I've watched a video of White Shadows live on Jools Holland show and there's some close-ups at the very start of Will playing, and during the intro it looks like he's hitting the floor tom, then snare, and alternating between the 2, before the hi-hat/snare combi that makes up most of the song. It also sounds like the floor tom, but on the album I can't make out the sound of the floor tom, only on this live performance. Can anybody else confirm this or am I hearing/seeing things? No clever comments please like "I'm the best drummer in the world and it is obviously..... that Will plays, I can't believe you can't hear that", cos there's far too many people like that on music forums and I don't have time for them, thanks :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suAxei6KPaQ
  13. Is the Squire Precision any good and does it make a good sound close to what Guy makes with the Fender Precision?

If you've purchased X&Y, Coldplay's new album, by now you've probably stared quizzically at the cover, an amalgamation of colors and blocks that looks strangely like a game of Tetris gone awry, or perhaps a character from some old-school ColecoVision game like BurgerTime. But the true meaning of the image has remained a mystery until now. Are Coldplay closet video-game junkies, paying homage to the eight-bit past? Really big fans of minimal, vaguely Cubist art? Just carrying on a long tradition of mystical, bong-addled Brit rock? Actually, the answer is more complex than all that — waaaaay more complex. The X&Y cover image is a graphical representation of the Baudot code, an early form of telegraph communication that relied on a series of ones and zeroes to convey messages (and thus, was probably the first truly "digital" means of communication). Developed by Frenchman Émile Baudot and patented in 1874, the code was the most widely used method of terrestrial and undersea telegraph communication for the following 70 years, until being replaced by Morse code in the mid-20th century. The Baudot code assigns five "bits" for each letter of the alphabet, an arrangement of ones and zeroes ("11000" is A, "10011" is B, etc), as well as coding for numbers and symbols, like question marks or commas. To differentiate between numbers and letters, Baudot further broke the code down into "upshifted" and "downshifted" sections. Switching from numbers to letters — downshifting — would be identified by inserting "11011" into a message stream. To relay messages, operators tapped keys on a Baudot multiplex telegraph transmitter, with a "one" meaning a hit of the key and a "zero" meaning no hit. For example, "A" would be transmitted as two successive hits followed by three beats of silence. Coldplay were kind enough to supply fans with a chart showing the entire Baudot alphabet in X&Y's liner notes (since multiplex telegraph transmitters are presumably in short supply these days), with vertical arrangements of colored blocks replacing the ones and zeroes. When the chart is applied to X&Y's cover image, it's revealed to spell out (duh) "X&Y." The image on the last page of the liner spells out "Make Trade Fair," the name of the international organization aimed at eliminating Third World debt through reformed trade laws, which Martin ardently supports . The code seems like the perfect passive-aggressive way for Coldplay frontman Chris Martin to convey his "Make Trade Fair" message, now that his T-shirts and finger-tape have been all but decoded. And when the band hits the road on August 2 in support of X&Y, much of their tour merch (including baby-doll tops and guys' T-shirts) will come emblazoned with the Baudot code (see "Coldplay Kick Off 36-City Twisted Logic Tour In August"). But while the Coldplay code has now been cracked, the answer remains: Why Baudot? Well, Coldplay have remained mute on the matter, but if the legendary Led Zeppelin could write a whole catalog of tunes that referenced J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit," and Radiohead could promote Kid A with about a zillion demonic bear images, who's to say Chris Martin and his crew can't get mathematical on X&Y? It's just the latest move in a long, long history of headscratching rock-star anti-statements. The logic behind such things, after all, is tougher to crack than any code out there.
  15. I had the coolest dream the other night and Guy was in it! We were playing football/soccer and suddenly I had a bass in my hands and Guy says 'wow you have the same bass that I use!' and we just talked for a while about how amazing he is then I woke up :D AND I had one were I was playing football/soccer with the whole band. Chris passed me the ball and I scored a super amazing goal - what a great dream lol.
  16. What's the best bass to get for a beginner, one that has a close sound to Guy's, minus the huge cost :P
  17. How did you find out that it was 6th January that Will joined?! It's very cool that you do know this anyway - Happy Coldplay Day Will :D
  18. I loved being able to see Will's energy on the drums - look how high he lefts his left arm before hitting the snare! The Guy poster moment during acoustic set. Chris forgetting Til Kingdom Come and then changing guitars during Ring Of Fire. Johnny getting groovy during Square One when he isn't playing, right hand in mid-air, very cool. Seeing backstage after the show - why did they turn the cameras off!!! Surely they should have followed them and started interviewing them!!! Maybe a bit selfish of me I suppose... The Richard Ashcroft compliments and huge round of applause for him. Johnny's Don't Panic solo. Guy with the shaker during How You See The World. Will at end of What If - did he actually throw the stick in the air I wonder.

Stupid question alert - how do you read Bass tabs? I've never played before, just curious as I'm thinking of buying one. Use White Shadows as an example: Intro and verses G----------------------| D-6-6-6-6-6-6-4-6---6--| A-----------------6----| E----------------------| So do you play D in the 6th fret then D in 4th fret, then A in 6th fret. then D in 6 again?
  20. I need a DVD Creator to burn all these Coldplay videos onto DVD - what does anybody suggest?
  21. If we 'want to kill everyone' then we could kill the person who started this thread to begin with :D
  22. This has just struck me having watched the amazing Toronto DVD - how on earth are the guys going to decide on the setlist for their next tour???!!! There may be some songs that we don't hear live for a very long time... Very exciting all the same, because the next album is, in my humble opinion, going to be one of THE best albums of all time, as is every Coldplay album, but you know what I mean. I just get a feeling the next one is gonna be quite something. Anyway, the setlist, hmmmmm. A nice problem to have though I suppose.
  23. I'm arranging a raffle for a signed football shirt, PM me for details.
  24. I asked Debs the question btw ;) The all black thing is a tribute to Johnny Cash, I remember Chris saying so somewhere, sometime, I can't remember where I heard it though!
  25. Thank you! I'll let you know if it works...
