  1. that's actually a good point. chris martin has a gorgeous girlfriend/wife/whatever that loves him, he gets to do what he loves for a living, and has made more money in the past year than most of us will ever see in our entire lives. it may be aggravating to be stalked by papparazzi all the time, but it's a price i'd gladly pay to be in his position right now. and like i said in another thread, every celebrity in the world gets the same thing, and they manage to deal with it. now he has to.
  2. same reason the thousands of other people do it: low self-confidence. frankly, i don't think it's that bad, but it kind of misses the point: you don't need the approval of others to feel good about yourself.
  3. wow

i'm going to say the same thing that was said earlier in a more harsh tone: you are a hypocrite and an idiot if you refuse to like somebody because of how popular they are. it's just as dumb to do that as it is to like something because it's popular. don't let image be more important than substance, basically. but since people in their early teens tend to do just that, i'll let it slide. :P
  4. i'll be back with my list on january 1st. :P i'd make a list now, but over the next year i'll probably discover half a dozen albums that i didn't hear this year and my list would be completely different anyway.

  20. i'm in a self-indulgent mood, so i'm going to list a few albums that i got this year that didn't come out this year and explain what's great about them. i'll be back in a couple weeks to explain what's great about my favorite 2003 albums :P Air - "Moon Safari" - if there's better make-out music around, i haven't heard it. The Beach Boys - "Smiley Smile" - it's not "Smile," but this album sounds completely bizarre today, and i can't even imagine what it must have been like hearing it in 1967, especially considering it was the next thing that people heard after "Pet Sounds." Kraftwerk - "Autobahn" - don't let anybody tell you otherwise, these guys ARE the fathers of electronic music. Do Make Say Think - i still think "post-rock" is an obnoxious name for a genre, but i use it because there's not really anything better for it. anyway, these guys are the masters, with the obvious exception of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. they can fit in the genre without simply following the same formula over and over, unlike, say, explosions in the sky (who i still enjoy) The Polyphonic Spree - "The Beginning Stages of..." - the Polyphonic Spree get extra credit just for existing and doing what they do. Jeremy Enigk - "Return of the Frog Queen" - the godfather of the disgusting "emo" genre (through the most consistantly brilliant band of the 90's, Sunny Day Real Estate) makes the strangest folk album ever. go figure.
  21. TODAY'S SONG OF THE DAY IS "AIN'T TOO PROUD TO BEG" BY THE TEMPTATIONS
