  1. you don't have any universities or anything around? i guess that's just an alternative i'm used to having, since there are about a hundred colleges within 30 miles of here, and most of them have better radio stations than clear channel could offer. :P there must be an NPR affiliate out there or something...
  2. oh yeah, i didn't even think of that. seems kinda obvious, actually.
  3. yeah, i don't even bother with commercial radio or television anymore (except for the simpsons), and i won't go to gigs at clear channel owned or sponsored venues (although i have to admit i made an exception for radiohead in august). that works out fine because most of the time there's nothing going on at those places (or on those radio stations) that i want to see or hear anyway, and here in philadelphia we actually have a great independent promotor who's willing to take on clear channel and is actually doing a great job of it, bringing in big name bands to play shows at better venues for less money. as far as news, i actually do take in some pbs news every now and then if i get a chance, and i mostly gather things off of various websites when i'm sitting here doing nothing.
  4. i have a couple on my forehead from when i had chicken pox but they're covered up by my eyebrows and aren't noticable. i had a very bad case of the chicken pox, apparently. i also have this nice white line running down my right pinky that came from a particularly nasty dog bite that happened when i was a young, curious, stupid boy. there was a lot of blood involved with that one.
  5. he probably had to shut it down because it cost too much money to host all of that stuff.
  6. yeah, news coverage these days is almost entirely worthless. there's such a huge gap between things what we actually want to see and what we're shown. the fact that ozzy osbourne getting thrown off an ATV is bigger news than our military killing 6 children in afghanistan makes me sick, and it reflects poorly on american culture in general, even though i'm sure that, given the chance, just about every person in the country would gladly replace pointless coverage of michael jackson or kobe bryant or joe millionaire with something that actually qualifies as news. meanwhile our government wants to deregulate media ownership laws even more, so that even fewer corporations will own ever more media outlets, and we'll have even less of an alternative to watching their bullshit than we do now. anyway, i'm not sure if that has anything to do with this at all, but it frustrates me to no end.
  7. The Beach Boys - "Wind Chimes"
  8. i thought it was pretty obnoxious until i scrolled down and saw chad's new one. :P
  9. i like christmas music a lot, i just think that most radio stations/department stores/whatever have a very tough time dealing with it tastefully.
  10. college Sophomore majoring in Music Industry.
  11. yeah, band names are pretty much meaningless, but i remember when i was 15 and starting a band, and at that point, having a cool name seemed more important than writing songs or being able to play an instrument. :P here are my suggestions, which are all filthy guttertrash and not to be taken seriously: Big Johnson and the Face Baths The Gloryholes The Heart-Shaped Boxes (it's a nirvana song, but it's something else too :P ) The Dental Dams
  12. Kraftwerk - "Vitamin"
  13. well.... not quite their first, but for all intents and purposes it is. :P
  14. yeah, if this is essentially a contest between radiohead and the stokes, there's no question about it. radiohead = incredible music the strokes = style and image over substance (the latter being something the strokes lack in a big way, in my opinion) anyway, this isn't something that everybody doesn't already know.
  15. everybody should listen to these guys. that's all i have to say. i have no idea why i'm starting this thread because nobody is going to go listen to them just because i told them to, and if you already listen to them, i'm wasting your time.
  16. the trick is to not care, then it's not stressful at all.
  17. i don't know if i can or not, but i did find out when i was a younger laddy that my brother can, and with the lid closed too. :sneaky:
  18. i think i've probably got anybody here beat when it comes to bad last names. most people think that somebody is trying to pull a joke, or that somebody misspelled "Reed." it's not so much the jokes i get as the fact that nobody actually believes that my last name is Peed.
  19. TODAY'S SONG OF THE DAY IS "1969" BY BOARDS OF CANADA, NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH "1979" BY THE SMASHING PUMPKINS.
