Coldplay take boredom break
rather than a greatest hits, i wish they'd put out a "rareities" sort of album. to make it especially worth it, they should throw in one or two completely unheard songs that we've all been clamoring for for years (*ahem* so sad and deserted *ahem*). i don't see them doing this, since most artists have good reasons why they don't release stuff, but i think this would bridge the gap, not be too much work for the band, AND get them off stupid EMI in time for LP5 :P i don't see that happening, of course, but it would be amazing :dead: i'm glad that they're taking a break: they deserve it, and i think it'll make the overall finished product much better. if they put out LP5 at the end of this year or whatever they were saying before, i think it would just be VLVOD part II, which while i think everyone would generally like it, it just wouldn't be the same as putting out something AMAZING and different in 3 years. they've been so good to us this year that i think we can be satiated for a liiiittle while :D. as much as they need a break, though, they really need to go to south america! i think they know that, though, and i bet they'll do something like they did last time: take a bit of a break and then go down there for a bit :nice:. just be patient, guys, and don't let that make you hate coldplay! it's almost definitely not the band's choice, and i think they're DEFINITELY going to pay you a visit in 2009-2010 :D

. well thanks...i just try to be helpful. frankly, i'm surprised you guys are still willing to be listening to me after how DRASTICALLY wrong i was about the tickets! (and thank god i was :D). i'd like to reiterate, though, that this is all just my speculation, in case any of you want to kill me later for being wrong again :P hmm, christa, want to mention the fact that i'm hireable to chris at the stage door if we meet him coming out? :sneaky: :P

i just went through my photos of the venue from the other concerts i've been to there, but since they were all taken during showtime when it's a) dark, and b) EVERYONE is standing up, not just GA, it's impossible to show you guys the approximate size of the area and the set up . however, here are a few shots that i took when i saw pearl jam there last june (on the SAME DAY that i saw coldplay on the today show in NYC :wreck:. and then i flew to amsterdam for the rest of the summer the next day :freak:). the first (red) one is a wideangle shot of the stage from section 600. the second one is a somewhat closer shot of the same, but those first few rows of people standing in front of the stage? that's probably the whole of the GA section, approximately. it's like 7-10 rows of people deep. OH! it's a bit shorter and smaller than the VIP section we were in at the today show! that's a good way to think about it...it's a bit smaller than that. like i say, disclaimer to what i said above: i have spacial issues and can be DRASTICALLY off when i estimate areas of space or number of people in an area, but my point was that it's not a HUGE number of people in GA.

yeah, and people call ME neurotic! i think that's sliiiightly paranoid, but i get your drift . my point is that we WILL still be the first ones in line at the gate...that's OBVIOUSLY the goal! i'm just saying that we probably won't have to (or be able to) wait more than three hours to do that :D. this is a tiny CT shed venue, not wembley, and we WILL be waiting in line for upwards of two hours at least, but i don't think we'll be in line for more than 4 hours at the most, by necessity and by law :P. then again, it all depends on what the box office says. i am TERRIBLE at estimating amounts of people in a given area, so forgive me if my estimate is way off, but at other shows i've been at at this venue with a GA pit, there didn't seem to be more than 200, 300 at the ABSOLUTE most, in the GA pit. even if we did get stuck in the middle or the back (which is NOT happening of COURSE, i'm just saying this to calm everyone down a bit) we'd still have an excellent view and be suuuuuuper close :D. the entire GA area looked to me as though it was approximately the equivalent size of 10 seated rows. IE, small area. if it makes you guys feel better and it works in everyones' schedules, maybe we should all get to hartford at like noon or one or two and keep checking in on the venue and then popping back out to a nearby starbucks or something hanging out until it seems like a good moment to strike and take over the front of the line :sneaky:.

i'm doing some internet searching now...the box office won't even be open till 2PM for an evening show, so i assume that means we'd be trespassing if we got there earlier (camping and loitering are prohibited, and tailgaiting is usually limited to three hours before a show, from experience). no other info on the live nation page for the venue really pertains to us right now (though we have to be careful with signs...i know they can be strict from history and personal experience). the meadows' own website is "currently down for maintenance," but that may have something useful when it's live.

i'm just guessing as well for the most part, but this is my way of thinking: a) the GA area is very small, so it's not like we'll be beating the masses by getting there SIX hours early. b) the venue probably has an official time that they let people start to line up. otherwise it may be considered loitering/trespassing, and the parking lot won't be open until a certain time anyway. we can get around the parking issue, of course, but i think they'll probably not be so welcoming if there's a random pack of six women hanging out all bloody day . c) i think we're going to be pretty much the biggest crazies there, so i don't think there will be THAT many people ahead of us waiting if we get there three hours beforehand! depending on what the venue says about past shows with the same setup and same level of band popularity, they can give us a decent timeframe on when to get there (however, whatever they say, i say we get there an hour beforehand to be on the safe side ). however, most of this is just me speculating. our most concrete information will come from the box office, and then we can plan around that. it's only two hours? it takes me about 1-1.5 hours to get to the NYC area from where i am in the danbury area, and an 1-1.5 hours from the danbury area to hartford. i guess this is just me being neurotic, then, because i always leave an hour buffer time when i'm making a big trip and need to be somewhere at a given time :P.

oh, i bet at the absolute earliest, we'd get there around 3PM for doors to open at 6PM (that's just a guess at the doors time, though...i don't think they've announced it yet). the GA section is very small when compared to places where the whole floor is GA (ie, wembley :wreck:), and i think most places have laws/permits stating when a line can start to form anyway. i'd think two to three hours beforehand would be about right, but i'm just guessing for now. i'd assume that means you guys leaving western LI at like...11AM? noon? we have time to plan it all out, so i wouldn't get worried just yet

Ask the Oracle on Coldplay.com (Now in session!)
i must see this brother! :wideeyed: for some reason i thought guy was an only child. i wonder how that person knew to ask!
-
23-May-2009: Comcast Theatre, Hartford, CT, USA
exactly, i plan to ask the person on the phone both when they start to allow a line to form AND when people usually start to get there to line up for GA, and then i think we should get there at least an hour before :P. i'm going to do the same for wembley. i INSIST on being close, dammit! :D

23-May-2009: Comcast Theatre, Hartford, CT, USA
when it gets closer to showtime, i'm going to call the venue and ask for an idea of when to start lining up based on previous shows and what time they allow a line to form. i'm such a neurotic planner that i'll probably have a schedule and a timeline schematic all laid out for this, so anyone else is free to join the crazy overplanned chelsea bandwagon :P and i live under that red dot near the CT/NY border labelled "danbury" :wacky:

Coldplay: "Next album will be inspired by the Middle East"
middle east influences?! :cheesy: the thought is making me drool :wideeyed:. however, i think they mean "middle eastern" in the sense that VLVOD was "latin." i can't imagine them pulling off much more middle eastern flavor in a song than they did with "yes," but i think this could be EPIC if it holds true by the time they get more serious about LP5. however, i did have a laugh for a minute imagining the new LP5-era costumes being desert robes and sandals :P

sarah, i'm looking at your sig and have a random idea for all you guys...would you guys consider taking the port jefferson/bridgeport ferry and then driving to hartford from bridgeport? it would shave a LOT of time off your drive (i have a house on montauk and most years we take the ferry to LI, shaving upwards of three hours off the trip) and unless they've raised the prices, it's not THAT expensive. just a small notice of another option available to you in the nature of time-saving, but i have no idea of your plans or schedule, so it might not make any sense for you guys to do that. i just thought i'd mention it because i'm in a random mood and have done it that way myself many times :)

Wembley/Other venues CCC clothing designs [2009]
completely agreed. if we ask anyone even remotely official that's tied to the band, they're going to tell us not to do it. yet, if we do it and even if they see us wearing the shirts at the gig, i don't think anyone would do a thing about it. i actually think it would be extremely unlikely for them to enforce anything if the first time they see or become aware of the shirts is at the gig itself, when we're all wearing them. not that we should actively try to HIDE what we're doing or anything like that, but i say don't try to get shirts to the band or ask "permission" or anything to that effect. then i think there's a higher chance of everyone just carrying on with their merry ways without anyone causing a stink. however, i do think that the decision to use something that may have a copyright question attached to it is up to ian and jen, since i figure they'd get the brunt of the heat in the event that anything happened, since everything would be tied to this site.

^well duh. i'm assuming we wouldn't do that, especially now that there might be this issue. i'm of the mind that we shouldn't provide the band with shirts anyway, since i don't think it would get anywhere. i think throwing one on stage for a laugh is one thing (though that sounds like it could be problematic and get someone thrown out of the venue), but trying to get them to the band beforehand through roadies or whatever is another, one that has a higher potential of someone saying "hey, they can't use that image!" that's just my personal opinion, of course, but if we plan to use either of the designs for the back that we have up for contention now, it's in our best interest NOT to try to get the band tshirts. i think the decision is ultimately up to you and ian, since i'd imagine you guys are the ones that would get most of the heat in the event that we get in trouble. i also think we'll need some alternative back designs in case you decide not to use anything with a non-coldplayer-original image or writing. i completely agree with mich. the only thing that worries me is that even though we're not TRYING to make a profit, as far as i understand whatever money is made does go to this site versus any official coldplay venue (or charity), and that, i would imagine, could be good reason to get angry with us if they were being nitpicky and whiney. however, i can't see them getting nitpicky and whiney, so i'm on the side of just carrying on with the doodle faces.

i can't see anyone even realizing there was a copyright infringement, let alone enforcing it. that's not to say i necessarily think we should barrel on anyway (i'm the cautious worry-wart, remember :P), but in some ways i just don't ever see anyone from EMI or the band coming across this, let alone enforcing whatever rules apply to it (especially the chris doodles, since i doubt EMI owns them and i doubt anyone would care enough to make it known that we made an oopsie and demand money or sue us). i assume then we would have the same issue with using portions of chris's handwriting? especially because it's not direct reproduction, but because it's slightly altered to make it say what we want .

Wembley/Other venues CCC clothing designs [2009]
eek, do you think? but then wouldn't we have the same issue with the other back image, the X&Y-era silhouette of the four guys, since it's a photograph that we don't own? aww man, i really like the doodle faces :bigcry:. does that mean we can't use them?

Wembley/Other venues CCC clothing designs [2009]
i'm going to have a hell of a time this weekend sorting through all the designs in this thread and determining which ones go in the poll :uhoh: :P. if i'm not mistaken, some were meant just as "test" designs and not actual submissions? or should i just put everything in? and i'm still wondering what to do about the backs...should we have two separate polls, one for backs, one for fronts? i feel like that's not the best decision, since we'd need two threads to do that, and i think the front and the back should work together in a way, rather than just smacking the most popular back on the most popular front. do the designers have any input?

hahaha, i don't mean to come across as a basket case :P. i worry, but my worries are mostly kept on the back burner and i don't give myself ulcers or anything, i promise! i just say a lot of them on here because you guys can understand my coldplay worries whereas most everyone else is like "um, who cares?" :P anyway, SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
