maybe for next album the boys should set up a Coldplaying Commission composed of a number of fans who will judge lyrics/costumes and music before actually releasing it...

I think that until now (don't know what we will see during the festivals) - Coldplay is STILL about making good music and singing-along. I would never approve the boys going Gaga-style.

I actually think X&Y is a pretty good album and the boys think that it is worst than it actually is (the NYT review article to blame)....

That could be true - the question is if they are going to achieve that - because VIVA was pretty mainstream and yet they are not a very common favorite band of youngsters. Youngsters like less elaborate stuff like Bieber, Gaga and whatever you can hear at the disco...

What I want is that on Friday we can hear music that fits perfectly those lyrics and hence the lyrics become also perfect. But I am aware of the fact that you have very good songs (musically) with creepy lyrics. If that's the case, then I will wait until hearing all the other songs of LP5, since as it is obvious you cannot absolutely LOVE all the songs on an album.

BTW, I also think that the lyrics are not GREAT, but I'm waiting until the song is released to judge the whole song. After all, a title is a title, a name is a name. What matters most is what's inside.

I guess that if you've been disappointed by the boys before, it is probable that it will happen again. For my part, I really like all their songs. Some more than others, but I really like the music they make. I understand that you don't like their new costumes, the fact that they are all colorful now, but they have been like that since the release of VIVA, so its no news around here. We are not even sure that the lyrics are just from Chris - maybe Will, Guy and Jonny were also involved. What specific audience do you think they are trying to seduce?

Lyrics are very important - but a good judgment comes after hearing them in conjunction with the music. As has been said here before, some Coldplay songs that we like very much don't have very good lyrics if they are read alone (i.e. Swallowed in the Sea). So what I am saying is that we should wait before making up our minds. Everyone here is free to give their views, but it hurts to see long-time fans destroying such a wonderful band before they see the release of the final product. On the other hand, I don't see that they are wearing make up. And it is normal that they have colorful jackets and pants. To me, their main thing is their music - the other things are extra stuff to make it a little bit less serious and more fun.
