  1. The tragic mess in Gaza - all that damage and suffering, was it really necessary? I'm just thinking it's over-done to stop the attacks, and there's got to be a better way.. Hitting a school? Ambulance?
  2. 590 an egg is ideal for viewing as the perfect shape. Place on pedestal, shine a spot light on it, and perhaps add a rotating base.
  3. Accidentally perfect butter cinnamon muffins: Mix about 1/2 to 1 cup of whole wheat flour with an egg, add 1/2 stick melted butter, then add sugar (1/2 cup?) and plenty of cinnamon (1-3 tsp+). Next add 1 cap-full vinegar (about 1 tsp.) and mix. Then add a couple of pinches of baking soda (maybe 1/3 tsp.), and mix. If consistency is a thick batter, it's just right. Pour into muffin tins / cups (about half full each). Pop in 350 Fahrenheit oven for a short while (check often, it bakes fast!), and remove when the smell is overpoweringly irresistible:). Cool quickly on stovetop (or in hard snow bank outside door), and gobble delightfully.
  4. I only know "Everyday I write the book"; but maybe? Elvis Costello, hmm.. I know some Costello's from the old neighborhood, but one cannot say if they're related.. But considering they're trying new things, it's an experiment then. I have only heard the bootleg version, which was barely audible, if almost incomprehensible. Not enough time to investigate further tonight. Anyhow, did everyone like Bono's performance at the Inaugural sing-along?:P:) I think U2 did very well, considering the weather. Adam Clayton really added strength during the performance, and Larry's drumming was excellent. Edge's voice came in handy too - a good boost during the frigid, dry air out there.. Wow, and what a crowd!! Looked like fun, and Barack looked very pleased.;) I was glad to see them playing there, as it was like a prophesy come true..
  5. Considering the cold day it was, and the fact that this was open to the general public, who come from widely varied backgrounds, it was all in all pretty good! I thought Bono and U2 did very, very well, and in some ways had to "prove themselves" to the audience, which boosted their performance. Spring or summer, it would have been a much more active crowd, me thinks[[@@]]

  7. One man caught on a barbed wire fence, one man he resist; one man washed on an empty beach, one man betrayed with a kiss.. In the name of love, one born in the name of love.. In the name of love.. One born in the name of love. The images of a holocaust suffer caught on a barbed wire fence, trying to escape - to resist. The image of a solider washed on an empty D-day beach The image of Antony betrayed by his love; by Cleopatra's kiss The image of the birth of Jesus; born in the name of love All these, for love of freedom, for love of another, for love of humanity Martin Luther King's tragic death, and his speech the night before; And most famously, his speech "That one day all of God's children will live together in loving peace and harmony.." To all those who sacrificed themselves, large and small may be their notice, but to each of equal value in the eyes of god, we salute you.
  8. B&W, but a green = sign, obviously! So, if U2 does mostly B&W covers, then looking at the shade of the gray, one might be able to determine what the real intent is..;) I think it's quite possible, since basically U2 & Coldplay are operating from both sides of the same coin - one for food, water, and assistance; the other disease eradication, treatment, and prevention. From my brief conversation in the mall with Chris and Bono, I would have to think they're pretty much in collaboration/coordination on their charity beliefs. Notice the red V on Chris's shirt? One complimenting the other. They did spend quite a bit of time together, so I'm sure there's a connection. Or maybe, as is always the case with U2's art, it's that and so much more, put in an elegant a form.
  9. No Line On The Horizon is set to be released on air Tuesday (Y/N). They might do just that!! Either way, I'm sure they'll play their hearts out for the event - I've noticed that when there's a need for it, U2 always pulls though. :)City of Blinding Lights - I will need to refresh my memory on that one..
  10. Spectacular Scene! Gotta love the flooring too - quite an assortment of woods! ..Yes, I was thinking that as well - there could be no more fitting a tribute to our first president with roots in the African-American community... I hope they get time for two songs - it would be worth it, considering the times were in.
  11. I want it to be spring! Winter is too long and too hard here..
  12. Spanish-English = Spanglish!:P (?Como estas?) Hola Sir Bart! How art thou doing with thy language of the Spanish mainland?
  13. When you think of it, wearing a wedding ring all the time can be a real pain. It's a nice ceremonial thing, and maybe to wear at special occasions, but me personally, I'd not have one on that often, given the choice. But time apart makes the heart grow fonder, and there's no sense in rumors for the most part. If all the famous rumors in the world were true, there would be 10X the marital troubles, and besides - it's really nobody business but their own.;)
  14. Pride would be a most excellent choice as well - and very fitting, considering the song is about self-sacrifice for the good of humanity; from the Normandy invasion to Martin Luther King Jr., to perhaps Jesus?
  15. Well, it sounds as though she has a "strong overbite" so-to-speak..;)
  16. Don't feel alone there - I've escaped biters before as well; what gives with that anyhow?? I just hope you're healing well, and thanks for the warning.
  17. Keeping an eye on the true path to change; getting to the heart of the matter..:)
  18. u2 - Beautiful Day!![ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlxVwCbljZo]YouTube - U2 Beautiful Day Live From Chicago[/ame] That's what they need to play at Barack's Inauguration. :)
  19. Jack, is what you say true??:shocked2:
  20. Kazakhstan :sultan:
  21. Less is more in the art world. Besides, it's what's inside the package that really maters most..;)
  22. Hello Rob! What I believe is that we are all learning, both collectively and individually about the world we live in. The lessons of the past all too often get forgotten; what did Alan Alda have to say about the Iraq War? Something along the lines of "all those lessons learned about our war experience in Vietnam, and then forgotten.." So too the problems of the 29 crash we've virtually re-created, and the war experiences, the lessons about compassion and common sense forgotten for a time as well. But everything's not lost. One prof. used to describe human progress as a spiral; lots of ups and downs, but slowly, almost imperceptibly, we are moving ahead. What I've come to realize is that it's our isolation from the actual event that prevents our understanding and having concern for what's happening. War correspondents need access to the places where harm is being done; places where radical elements are professing hate, and places where white phosphorous is landing on our fellow mankind. Modern states, with agendas far removed from reality, can sometimes be as awful as the radical elements they are battling.. Unfortunate as it is, citizens are often used as pawns in their ugly games, and with sad results. I think the Palestinians have been treated as the proxies for war between states, and the closing of borders w/ an embargo may have created more support for the extremists, since workers, disallowed access to work, and cut off from the goods they need become enraged, and more are easily pesuaded to violent means as a result. Policy makes often lack the understanding of the effects of their policies, having little understanding of what it's like to walk in the shoes of an average Palestinian. But the violent videos, quite disturbing, I agree. It's unfortunate that violent extremism is so much a part of acceptable behavior and way of thinking in some countries. One has only to recall, however, how violent the Western world was at one time: Guillotinings for entertainment in France during the revolution? Hangings in the U.S. for public entertainment? How about Stalin's pogroms? Concentration Camps? These times were in the past, but Western culture has had it's own blood lust at a time.. It takes time for change, and the more support we show for peaceful change and for moderates, the more things will improve. Climate change, like many things, is complex, so even as a scientificlly minded person, I have concerns about our current understanding; but the mounting body of evidence suggests we have had a significant effect, however pinning a precise outcome on it all is still to be determined. True, I've read as well that the effect of climate change may be a colder, drier climate for North America and elsewhere, while other parts of the globe may get much hotter and drier. But other matters are considerable as well - putting the huge amounts of CO2 into the biosphere in so rapid a fashion has acidified the ocean (and many lakes); since the ocean acts as both a CO2 sink from the atmosphere, and the biotic world where a great deal of the planet's oxygen is produced, one wonders how the acidity will affect the ocean life, the interconnected web, and the photosynthetic capacity of the oceans to convert CO2 into O2. Adding ocean currents, nutrient upwells, and temperatre effects (and bits of plastic) It's quite the complex equation, but with data we may have an understanding - I'm just not fully aware of what work has been done in the area. Perhaps it would be wise to use careful knowledge of climate change to plan for a corrective measures, assuming we're at all good at guessing what to do. We could, using mineral nutrients, add enough to the oceans to spur plant growth; it might offer some hope. Also, some work is being done with methods to form clouds over the tropical oceans to create cloud cover and affect climate. One might even be able to dispell energy from pressure systems sooner, to prevent catastrophic hurricanes from getting a start. All I know is, with hope and understanding, not all is lost. We can be smart enough to make significant changes in time, and I believe we're starting to do that. It's time.
  23. It's not that cold if you dress for it! Keep warm thoughts on cold nights.. I would very much enjoy listening to the moody blues Common elements in human endeavors are the glue that binds us together Cranberry Sauce, so said John.
  24. Tuesday Afternoon... the Moody Blues; learned that one of their band members spent time with the Beatles - quite interesting..
  25. Thanks for posting this review here, DreamOutLoud! Yes, Larry Mullen has to keep a tight lid on things as the business overseer, and Bono has the gift of gab (and salesmanship!).. Motivated by the desire for greatness, I'm glad they keep producing great music!! I'm looking forward to hearing their new songs as well - always a surprise around every bend in the road, so it will be an adventure!! I need to remember to be kinder to Bono in the future; it's just when he shows up unexpectedly at places, it's sort of out-of-sync with where my mind is at.
