June 6: The Hour interviews Coldplay
I was waiting for Mary Had a Little Lamb!:P Beethoven's works they hardly touched on..:\ The British are always so polite - it's nice to see that; kind of a lost art (*almost) here..:)

War With Radiohead's Message Board!!!
Radiohead isn't music, it's just art. Coldplay is art, and music combined for the first time!!:P (Radiohead wins in the Weird column, however:dozey:) If they spend a lot of time bashing Coldplay, it's a sign of insecurity - maybe they know their #1 spot is in danger of sliding, as Coldplay rises again?? :) And yes, Radiohead are like the Pussycat Dolls!:lol: (gotta love the sarcasm..)

What are you up to that's Coldplay Related?
Hey, that's sweet! Too bad for the experience, but in an ironic twist, you learned to play A Message! :) Hmm.. Well, I do buy Fair Trade items, but not just for Coldplay's sake - rather something I've always believed in .. I suppose I think about global issues more as a result of their music.. and lament some of the disasters we've had to deal with. Now, I am at a transition point in life, but enjoy the dialog on the board here, and all the fun members of this forum!!

Search for food leads to lunch with Coldplay's Chris Martin
edamame? I did not know they were so popular! Glad you could keep him from starving!!:) Why do people get so out-of-sorts around celebrities anyways?? I mean, we're all just people, right? Glad you haven't a problem with that - and I'm sure Chris appreciated your friendliness - it's gotta be a little straining after awhile, not being able to just blend in an act normal..;)

Does Anyone Else Remember...
Well, I like surprises (sometimes!). I had better not say too much here, but suffice it to say, be careful when you walk into a record store, and play with any instruments that are thus being set up for any impromptu performances.. :laugh3: If the music's good - either radio, or internet - yes, when I leave the hermitage here, I do like to buy the album after I find a good song or two by the group - the remaining songs are great surprises, and often well worth the purchase! Often though I'm prone to getting the "Best Of" first, though..

Are You Bored With Life?
Like Everest, if you could just hop a ride in a lift to get there, what would climbing it mean then? I think there's a certain truth to that in us all - we need new challenges to aspire to, and not to get everything too easily. Food tastes good only after a hearty day's work. Sleep feels good after we've run the quarter mile. Water is sweetest after a good sweat. And music is great when it's something to strive towards. ;) Of course, too many challenges can be disabling as well! Something in the middle works best. (I've got too many challenges right now, and I've put too many stones on these shoulders. Need to get dug out of the hole I'm in..) I'm still suffering from Future-Shock, and Boredom isn't it for me - more a feeling of being overwhelmed, and seeing the world around me change in some disturbingly unsustainable ways.. Ever try wrestling with the world? It usually wins.

Coldplay to perfom at MTV Movie Awards on June 1
Lowa HAHAHA!!:laugh3: Yes, why is that?? Is it the flatness? Lack of natural boundaries that otherwise make you feel like you're really "somewhere"? Perhaps the confluence of some basic realities in those strait-lined states - they're newer, and were settled mainly for agricultural purpose, hence farmers, who naturally gravitate towards music they can relate to, cows milk well to, and with more traditional roots. Roads are laid out on a grid, and you can see pretty much everywhere from anywhere- this creates not only an optical illusion of familiarity regardless of your location, but a sense of infinite plain-ness of the world. Too much excitement is not encouraged, as it's a long dull drive no matter which way you go, and you need music that's not going to get you too riled us, since calmness is needed to go across these vast expanses before you reach the other town or field down the line. And then there's my pet theory. Time travel really is possible - the further from any cultural center you go, the further back in time you go! This can be comforting in some ways, as you can always retreat into the past whenever you like, but then there's a lot of stale bread along that route. So, bring fresh bread, a towel, and some music along - and remember, Iowa is only one letter away from AWOL when spelled backwards!:lol:

Coldplay's Spiritual Side
I believe in Dog. As long as I put faith in Dog, all is well.:cool::laugh3:] Their music has a spiritual side, yes - obviously, the Roman Calvary, and many references as such - it's common territory for most of us, being familiar with church and their teachings and sermons. I think we all harken to when we were children at times, and get comfort from some of those messages - didn't the Beatles use this as well? Lady Madonna? Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom; let it be.? The bible is really a novel, and has some gripping tales that resonate well in a compassionate sense within all of us - hence it's popularity for the very beginning. In many ways, early Christianity was a path of compassion and inclusion - welcoming those who felt left out of Roman society, those who felt dissed, those who were middle-class or poor, and were left to only an eternity in Greek Hades under the older pantheon of Gods. Women had equality in the early church, and could become leaders. It was egalitarian and compassionate, offering a more humane future for humanity. But I see something else; common threads of human thought and action, that soften the blows of harsh reality, and bring us greater success through examples of selfless giving, and thought-provoking moments of reflection. Balance in a world of work and focus. So, everything's not lost - it's just out of focus at times. And when bad actors have grabbed power and are in need of correction, this is a time for action. After all, wasn't it Jesus who turned the table of the money-lenders over in the temple? Wasn't it Jesus who dared to be King of the new Kingdom of Jerusalem, against the Empire?? What does this say about corrupt empires that rule from afar, with corrupt monetary policies? Hmm..:thinking:

NME and Q reviews of Viva La Vida
What matters is whether or not it gets through to the subconscious of the world.. Ratings are just opinions - hell, if we believed the critics, the Beatles would have folded up shop and never succeeded, neither would have the original Star Wars movie! What really matters - do you like it??! I do!;)

The Lazy Thread
Laziness is just temporary. There was some article recently on NPR dealing with procrastination, and why we do it. The gist of it was that we all need some sort of immediate rewards, even if the deadline isn't for a long time from now - something to go in incremental steps along the way. It's the way we need to trick ourselves, so we get to things on time. But there are different modes of thought - Without reflection and time for real experiences, life would be a mechanical chore, and often that's what's lacking in this world - time out to take a look at things before moving ahead. So, laziness is just that reflective, experience mode - but to be in balance, or taken at appropriate times in life. And follow-through is another important component. Not always essential, if this is a leaning experience, but a good exercise to understand completing a task, and feeling a sense of accomplishment. What got me moving was a number of factors. Food! The needs in life. A drive to solve an equation. Seeing the usefulness of the outcome before I get to it. Seeking the deeper truth before making the leap. Realizing how much happier life gets when the cart has all four wheels, springs, and a good horse in front. "An ounce of brains is worth ten tons of brawn; combining both in the right measure yields excellent results." But most of all, I think balance is essential. 8-9hrs. sleep per night. Calm periods each day. A good brisk work-out. Good food. Some fun! And the work becomes less a chore, more enjoyable. Helps to have less distractions, and to stay focused.

Coldplay =/= U2
:laugh3:OMG - Al Gore Breaths Fire!:lol: Well, anywhohow, I think it only fair to add the Coldplay have a strong environmental bend as well, with the carbon-neutral paper, saving forests, and all.. Speaking of which, I have heard through the grapevine that Bono is in Japan planting trees and mixing a new album. So, maybe some day, the trees that Bono plants could be used to make paper for promo printings, or sequester some of the CO2/CH4 given off elsewhere in his travels around the globe.;) One thing not often discussed here, and I think Coldplay's music has touched on it, are the common global anxieties we all share. Traffic congestion. Rapidly changing the global biosphere's balances. The dizzying effects of technology, and where it's all headed...

Coldplay's Spiritual Side
There is no Wizard with all the answers, only a man behind a curtain, as the movie plainly shows. Cause and effect. Motivations, natural laws, natural behavior, and what steers human societies towards more enlightened and harmonious ends. If we are connected, it is by the lessons on our individual nature, how we structure society, how loosely or tightly each structure is, and what are the outcomes? The strings of the universe bind us all, but it takes all the connections of family, friends, interactions, lessons, and common or shared experiences to bring us to a point of enlightenment, be that by the lessons on religious teachings, or be that through other means. What God Paul speaks of is the God of the one "heavenly Father", as opposed to the other religions of the time, those of the Greeks with their pantheon of Gods (deified humans, with idealized traits, and exaggerated abilities), or religions that used animals as symbolic of human qualities. Moving past that point, the Jewish, and latter Christian faiths looked upon the society elders, exemplified by the "one Holy Father" concept (the Moses), as the ideal God to live up to, and to listen to for guidance and correction. I would rather look towards common sense for the truth in all things - the Golden Rule, and Cause and Effect - the Age of Reason; the Enlightenment; although, the stories in the Jewish and Christian traditions are very often good tales of common-sense morality plays, and well worth contemplating. Well, what is good is that necessary component of compassion in human endeavors, to counterbalance the drive for productivity and material gains. Without the one, we are cold and self-destructive of ourselves and the social fabric; without the other, there is no practical means for our survival. Coldplay is trying to connect the two, and I think they've got it right. The global injustices stemming from old patterns of thinking and structuring our global economy lead to many of the problems we're dealing with today. So, very basic things, like making trade fair between the two hemispheres, and considering our actions as individuals has a big impact on the stability of human relations and nations. If in a time of rampant nationalism, that means reaching out to connect people from all places in a common effort to bring about a sense of shared oneness to those living far afield, this can only yield good results. It's this sense that we're all really human, and we all have common experiences; that we share more in common with one-another than how we may differ - this they have done well in a spiritual sense, and continue to do so............

Coldplay =/= U2
Motive force :laugh3:Now I don't feel so bad about thinking Radiohead's music is just plain weird! (but then again, that's a big part of their appeal! They're still tops on many charts, so despite the oddness, it's catchy; often with very real messages about human nature - twilight-zone esque..). U2 are truly outstanding when it comes to gutsy moves to change the world, and that's a tall order for anyone to fill! I think, and this is just my gut instinct, that growing up in tumultuous times and places, as U2 did with Northern Ireland's peace marches, and with the Beatles during the 60's - - so there was a certain fearless drive to break through and make a difference in the world. With Coldplay, it's the underpinnings of the modern world and it's need for compassion and fairness that drives them. They get to the roots of our nature, and work at that level - less in the spiritual sense as U2 has done, but more in the human and earthy sense with great feeling ( and a descent bit of humor as well!). For any one of us to strive onward, we need some force or higher purpose to keep us motivated, against what otherwise might be viewed as insurmountable odds, and the belief that we are all connected, and will make a difference.
