Easter and Paine..
An Excerpt from Harvey Kaye's Thomas Paine And The Promise of America: Appreciatively acknowledging that Jesus Christ was a "virtuous and an amiable man" and that the "morality that he preached and practiced was of the most benevolent kind," Paine portrayed Jesus "the person" as a preacher of the "equality of man" and a "reformer and revolutionist." Nevertheless, Paine absolutely rejected the story of "miraculous conception...resurrection...and ascendance," noting that it is "altogether the work of other people," and "has every mark of fraud and imposition stamped upon it."

quick question about 42
I recall that when the Earth was being made, there were some experts carving the stone cliffs of the Fjords in the area which would become Norway..:laugh3: But yes, Douglas Adams is an excellent author, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who isn't a Vogon.;)

10 days to war !
Nothing surprises me anymore.. maybe having standing armies of the strength we have today is just asking for trouble.. too much temptation for those in power to try something, and usually that something winds up going astray..

Poets
Numb. Numerical Ruminations One is the loneliest number, but fits all the rest Two is a pair, but pairs are best served sliced, leaving each half one; Three could be a tree with ones for branches, But trees have forks, which brings us to four Four is two by two, or three and a friend. Four is the seasons, without end.. Five's wild, the dice with dot corners and one eye centers.. Sixes crawl like bulldozer treads, or lines up strait in an engine.. and Seven's just lucky to have one as a friend, else it's indivisible, as luck would have it.. Eight takes the bait, and splits easily; but evens the odds with two four's, or four two's.. Nine has the iron on the green, and Ten is but two hands, waiting for commands from the brain.. Which says Eleven stands tall but odd, having one on each side, yet only has room for itself and it's one friend, one.

Mars is 'covered in table salt'
..I knew those Mars bars had too much salt to support life!:P Well, sure, once things evaporate it gets too salty - but when the lake was full of water, it could have supported life.. It seems odd - if life here originated in hydrothermal vents, wouldn't it be beneficial to search for old remnants of those vents on Mars??;) What would Marvin the Martian say?? ;-]

CHOCOLATE!
^^^..Yea, it does do that!:)^^^ ..You've got to scroll down pretty zip quick, and look in an unfocused manner somewhat.. I wish I could get our corner store to stock the fair-trade chocolate, but that would be a leap up here! Maybe I can talk them into it, as I would be a customer :p, and the word would get out a bit more.. Hmm.. Presently, I got the Hershey's special dark, but I wonder about the ethics, given the market forces at play..

Whens the last time you rode a bike?
I kept giving my bicycles to homeless people, and they kept getting stolen, so it's been a while.. I really do enjoy riding - lately I've been walking to the store instead.. Last time - hmm.. maybe 1 or 2 years ago(?).

"to swim against the stream"
8*8*8* Well David, I'm not an expert on British culture (though I do watch quite a number of British comedy shows)! Who am I to judge!:P (as though American "culture" were all that different..);) Glad you've chosen a healthier path in life, David! I would say that we're all a complex combination of circumstances, and we can either choose to fit into a group, thereby giving up some individuality but gaining a sense of place within some secure social framework, or we can choose to be more individualistic, and gain friends by mutual commonalities gained independently in separate circumstances. Or, we can choose to go it alone, and live as hermits in our own hermit kingdoms!:elf: Basically, we have many facets, and many sides of our personalities to explore, either independently, or together. Some times we are within a group, and at others, we are on our own. Sometimes we become groups by our very exclusion from a given group. But whatever path you choose, or whatever path life chooses for you, it is the path you take, for the path is more a description of the turn of events and the frames of mind, than simply a time-line through the walk of life. Whatever choice, keep dreaming, & never loose the joy of discovery and the joy of sharing..:sunny:

CHOCOLATE!
Well, a couple of ounces a day is OK, Grace! And if it's 70% chocolate, it's supposed to be healthy! (just walk or run it off - no big deal!!:)) And, oolala, is it ever goood!:p:p:p Yum!! (& I must run off to get some..)
-
CHOCOLATE!
OOO, there's an offer not to be refused!:) (But England must have good chocolate too? What about Cadbury?? And there must be more than that, too..!) (I go for the fair-trade dark with almonds..)

Easter Weekend
new time So, David, does this mean that Stonhedge can be used to mark time in a different way??:laugh3: This may seem like an odd question, but I've often wondered - why is the road so close to it? I mean, I would have left a little more space, unless it's just an ancient Roman route that keeps getting enlarged..? Oh, what would the ancients think of us now??;)
