  2. n. We are and are not Gods of nature's winter winds whip that auto like a toy left, then right, like it's a joy for nature to assert dominance over dominion; yet small as we are we change nature with what we do to nature's face with a the thin blue veil on the surface, smooth, yet the local is a gale..
  3. I yam what I yam!:P

In a physical sense, preferably on a soft bed of moss. How many time a day do you swear?: I rarely keep such records! How many time a day do you smile: More problems in the records dept. 8. Obama's better in the honesty department than Clinton. Check it out at http://www.opensecrets.org, and get a better perspective on what the candidates will really do if chosen.
  9. How long do you want your hair to be?? 2 years, you'll be like that Godiva chick!:P Give it about 8 months..:)
  10. Medicine's a pretty rigorous field, but very rewarding - best of luck to you!!

  12. The Road that Leads to Nowhere. A cool blast from the past!
  13. Distance is relative - there's phones, letters, Email, telegrams, packages, etc.. I know what you must be feeling - I had a long-distance relationship once upon a time.. Best to keep in touch!;)
  14. Yea! I like that!! Well, life's a mix - no tires, no freedom.. but all work and no play makes John a dull boy. So, hurray for the mix!!:sunny::joker::laugh4:
  15. I have trouble with words like Renaissance (words I don't often spell, and have silent parts), and trying to guess whether or not to double the consonant when adding a suffix (like funnel and funneling). I almost always guess wrong, since they almost always break the rule (unless they're simple). What's wrong with funnelling anyways!:P (takes all the fun out of it!)
  16. :)Cheer up - nothing is as far away as it seems! :thinking:And I was just thinking - how the heck do we hold it all together?:P (Quite amazing, when you think about it.. everything from car tires to spacecraft to computer designed u-name-it!)
  17. Plenty of Work in Changes Ahead! The days of great job security may be past us now.. But, I predict there will be an enormous demand for home remodeling, in order to upgrade our current houses to high efficiency standards (as energy prices will soar like never before)! Anything in this area should do well - from materials and research to installation. That, and materials recycling will boom as well, since known deposits of certain metals are limited, and demand continues to rise. Their extraction gets more and more risky, as the remaining ore bodies are in more sensitive areas of the environment - which will create a boom for replacement materials made of common earth elements (aluminum for copper, ceramics for stainless, etc.). Research, development, and manufacturing of better solar cells, enclosures, and the like will boom as energy from oil and coal gets scarce, and the impact is fully realized. Also new automotive designs, engines, and the like should be big pretty soon - there's still enormous gains to be made in the design of vehicles. Bioplastics, made to be earth-friendly and worker-friendly should be big as well - currently, the types of plastics we use have serious risks from beginning to end, and replacement materials will require changes in raw materials, manufacturing, and recycling. There's always jobs in industry, as we transit from economies reliant upon fossil fuels to industries reliant upon solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass energy sources. But the single biggest gains will be in increased efficiency. Efficiency is the 90%; everything else is the 10%. It's much, much easier to improve efficiency than it is to input more energy, and smart businesses will put a strong emphasis on this in the near future. On a more human level, as energy prices rise, farming will grow at the local level - demand for healthier foods will prompt more organic farming practices, and since energy prices are tied to farming in many ways (from fuels to shipping to fertilizers to pesticides), organic farming will become a larger share of the food market. Looking at textiles, most of today's are made of petroleum-based plastics, and some that are not (cotton) will jump drastically in price, as energy prices continue to rise. There should be a strong market for natural fibers, and those made from bioplastics. Since much of our homes and autos are filled with types of plastics that are hazardous to human health, it seems likely the replacement materials will have these natural sources. Finally, the proper treatment and disposal of the wastes we generate still has to be fully addressed. Quite a lot has already been done, especially in Europe, but the rest of the world lags behind in this matter. We may even see mining of existing landfills, to recover much of the necessary metals which will be in short supply in the future. Gads, it boggles the mind! There's technology which is constantly evolving, computer systems to be improved, water issues to be solved, cleanup of contaminated areas, green roofs, new space-age materials to store electricity, - if you like carbon science, carbon nanotubes will be bigger than ever! There's synthetic zeolites to be created and applied for various applications.. Health is a big big field as well - no doubt there will be a huge need for people in the field, as there are always care needs from A to Z.. And making it work for everyone will be a key issue. Preventive medicine should boom as well, as this makes the most sense. IIEEE!!!:laugh3: Just pick something where there's jobs! (my personal feel is that we will need to restructure our economies, to reduce stress and improve happiness overall - focusing on better quality goods and services is one way; efficiency is another.)
  18. Handyman - carpentry, plumbing, yardwork, etc. Some furniture refinishing in winter (a time of relative calm and starvation..).:)
  19. opensesame I'm supporting Obama, as he makes the most sense in terms of voting for legislation that actually helps the general public. His funding is broader, and he's not been in politics too long to be tainted by the process. Kucinich threw his support behind him, so I'm betting that's a good sign, as Kucinich was very much in favor of helping the average citizen and doing what's right for the country and the world. For a non-partisan look at funding, see: www.opensecrets.org As for the Republicans, McCain was, along with Russ Feingold, the author of a piece of campaign finance reform legislation that had the potential to change the corrupt and corrosive process of big donors controlling our government via the elections funding process; congress watered it down in the end, and the parties used loop-holes to run an end-game around it, though. But McCain has some views I'm not too fond of either.. Ron Paul is a Libertarian, who decided to run as a Republican to garner more attention on the national stage. He basically wants to reduce the overall size of the government to a fraction of where it now stands (which I think is draconian), but he genuinely feels we have drifted away from following the intent of the US Constitution, which I have to say I agree with.
  20. \\\The Calendar Stone/// History winds backwards winds blow, time flows, then stops But the mind's eye sees in not the same frame all the thoughts are ancient now; painted with game to understand is to become, if only for a moment and to become is to meld with the mind long past to walk in the footsteps on an Aztec path..
  21. Chemistry? I am thinking about how to take over the world by allowing everyone to vote in the US elections. Why not - since we run the world, shouldn't "we" mean everyone?!
  22. Join the Empire! manana manana!:P OK now listen up comrades! Here's our chance to take over the world: First, I want you all to move to the US and become US citizens. This should be easier than you think, as we get most of our immigration from Mexico, and less so from other countries. Second, once you become a US citizen, you can move back to Argentina, and then you can vote from there! (and hold dual citizenship!). Third, since we've opened up primary locations in London and Paris, then if there's enough demand, the same can be true in any major city anywhere (such as Buenos Ares, Catamarca, Cordoba, Santa Fe, etc.). You get to vote right at home (or nearly so), and can vote absentee ballot, via mail, long before the regular election! Fourth, go and vote! You'll be US citizens, provided with the same shakey guarantees we all get, plus you'll no longer have to deal with our insane policies in quite the same manner, because you'll be one of us! (and if ever things look a bit dicey, just run to the embassy, and you'll get a ticket back to the US and complete immunity!) :laugh3:Hey, some of this is true - it's just me being goofy - hope all is well down in sunny Argentina!:sunny::sunny::sunny:
  23. The Process :laugh3: David, I wish it were so simple!! Impeachment is not in the cards, so we have to wait. He's a lame duck anyhow, but executive signing orders (unconstitutional) makes him a dangerous one at that.. First we have to narrow the field to just one offer per party. I'm hoping the candidates with less money behind them from corporate America get the nominations, but that's against probability. (one good reason for campaign finance reform that sticks) And hopefully we can scale back the powers of the president - I'm thinking Barack Obama might be a more honest choice for that task, as well as Ron Paul, or even John McCain. It's sort of like hoping for a benevolent king at this point, but if congress sees lots of new faces, they might have the courage as well to take on the constitutionality of executive orders (ie - kingly powers). Now, if you want, I think our immigration quotas from Great Britain are low enough that you (and your neighbors, family, and friends) could become US citizens! Once you've been here a while, you can return to England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Jersey, or Guernsey, and vote from there! To show you how progressive we Democrats have become, we've even got polling places for the primary vote right in London or Paris! So now you haven't any excuse - join the Empire, Luke!:P
  24. As much as I like Obama (and admittedly Kucinich and Edwards would have been still better), I really hope Paul does well. Since our constitution has all been but inverted (especially by our sitting duck president), we need a strong advocate for adherence to those founding principles. Any more, and we might as well say we have another King George of 1700's infamy. Funny, how we're supposed to learn from and not repeat history, and yet we stumble right back into the same traps time and again.. At least Nixon got caught - this fella is going to waltz right out of office, unscathed!
