Riots on the Streets of UK
> Well, sometimes families can be worse than anyone can imagine, since I know here of some who didn't just lack parenting skills, they lacked adult thinking parents, and so the kids wound up stealing safes, running from the law, doing whatever they could wherever they could get away with it - made Bevis and Butthead look tame. > But when the kids were sent off the to local youth camp for troubled youth, they came back acting really nice and all better, at least until the same scenarios and same associates and same routines took hold again... > But with London, a city of some 7.8 million citizens, if only a small, small fraction of the youth are borderline, and then have idle time, I can imagine this results. That, and don't cut back on police either - there's no savings when the potential exists for riots, that's for sure!

WAKE UP PLEASE GIVE 10 MINUTES OF YOUR LIFE FOR THIS
Frodo, I know there are those in power belonging to these organizations, and they do some weird stuff, indoctrinations into insensitivity, oaths of secrecy, etc. It's not that there isn't a power elite globally, and that they aren't a threat to democracies around the globe, but it may not be quite so coordinated into one camp as the video suggests, and is more a matter of us either allowing or not allowing them to dominate things with their wealth and control - we hold the key to it all, our votes count, our voices count, our rallies change things, the will of the citizens cannot be subverted in the end. Always has, always will. But these power elites have wormed their way in in other ways, buy buying the elections, by buying their senators & parliamentarians, so-to-speak, and through the quid pro quo, or delayed bribery as I think it should be called. In places when it gets bad enough, the military is used to quell uprisings, which should never happen when it is the right and will of the people to determine their own future, the self-determination of nations, but change is inevitable, from the bottom up. But yes, topical is best - putting this in normal lower case, being respectful of others, putting it in the right part of the forum is polite. If you want to encourage others to consider your views, you need to use the right methods - shock effect doesn't do it, and often backfires. and hm... Rothschild Banking - I will look them up! Rothschild family - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Quite an amazing family, doesn't sound like they encourage wars to profit from though. I suspect others do that, mainly those with the biggest stakes in oil and gas, if they are so insulated and uncaring of the harm done to many innocents during warfare and the suffering thereafter. Recalling Wendel Potter's revelation when he came face to face with those affected by the insurance industries greedy behaviors to which he participated in, he then immediately realized the real harm being done. I think if many of those in the ivory towers had the same experiences, they too might then realize what real pain they may be inflicting on real people through callous policy decisions for maximizing profits. To walk in the moccasins on another is to know another.

London Riots Hit Indie Labels
I don't even know what to say, why burn down a warehouse full of music, why trash and loot so many people's places, what's the sense in it? Senseless. Sad. Mindless violence never is mindless, there's something afoot. Youths who feel dispossessed or abandoned somehow, lack self-esteem building experiences, outlets for free exercise, positive outlets for fun and creativity - there's usually something missing. Where are their parents? - either both parents are too busy working, or the closing of the youth clubs was all these kids had going in life that filled the void, or something. They / we all need positive outlets for energy, self-esteem boosting, something to give them a boost so gangs don't become the only option to be a part of something. Jobs too! One great way to feel better is having some purpose, some work experiences. From the things I was hearing about the reasons for the riots from the kids on the street, they just need something to do, someplace to be with others and to fit in. I remember what happened here when some of the kids I grew up with just roamed around aimlessly, nothing to do, parents could have cared less where they were, and then all sorts of wild ideas started up. Some of it was good activities, but once a bad idea starts in the heads of a gang leader, and then look out. It helps to have cops on the beat who know the neighborhoods, know the neighbors and the young men and women personally, and who care about them, respect them - and can direct them towards healthier outlets in life, but when the youth clubs closed, oh man, what a mistake to cut the budgets of things that are essential for young people's needs for exercise and development, socializing, and entertainment. I dunno - it's maybe more than that, families in trouble, parenting issues, no positive role models, but restless young men can have great families, but it just takes one summer, some frustration, and nothing else to do - it's not always deeper social issues beneath it all. so basically it still looks like too many cuts in a time of recession to me - not enough jobs, no social clubs open, not enough neighborhood cops on the beat who know and respect the people living there, poor conditions at home - maybe too tight family budgets, and with both parents working, then who's there for the family? Lots of factors, but it could as well be LA when riots erupted in the 80's.. no place is so different from another.

Riots on the Streets of UK
the phrase "expedite matters" comes to mind. How about using fire trucks to hose down the demonstrators, if it has come to that? Or reopening the youth clubs, so they're not all just hanging around waiting for something exciting to do?

WAKE UP PLEASE GIVE 10 MINUTES OF YOUR LIFE FOR THIS
Well, alright, there are societies which historically allowed members to speak privately about things which in that time would have gotten them killed. However, as with anything, what starts as a good thing, a sort of speak-easy, sometimes becomes a bad thing; societies that permit members to openly talk about a murder and expect no other members to divulge this to the authorities because of an oath taken to the order or the group, this is unacceptable . And I think anyone who sees this can see a symbol of this particular society. And as for the power elite in the world, certainly we all know that with the very, very few controlling most of the wealth in the world, there is little doubt they have their "club" and what it's members do to belong, as well as what they decide at their meetings, is without a doubt kept secret in like fashion, and they swear an oath of secrecy to all other members to not divulge anything any other member says in confidence. and their reach extends far and wide, they can and have done character assassinations Orwellian style if for no other reason than to show that they can get away with anything and frighten all potential opponents, as well as probable assassinations of foreign leaders for economic interests, and they think we inherently do not realize the extent of their reach, but I am not the least bit surprised, and plenty angered by what they have done. But today, as more and more individuals and organizations take note of the galling corruption and clearly visible lack of real democracies and true representative governance anywhere, the world is in revolt against these individuals, their secondary members, and their grab for absolute power. The 'reptiles' cannot maintain their empires forever, and cannot fool us any longer - for the empire has no clothes. While they wear a million coats like chameleons, looking closely at their true actions reveals what they really are up to, and when alligators reach the sizes of city buses, they're a little hard not to notice walking down the boulevard. So we will restore the 4th estate, the independent media, and break apart consolidated power. We will rid the corrupting influence of control by a powerful few in our governments, for no free people will long tolerate the yolk of oppression bearing down on their lives, nor permit an endless train of abuses and usurpations of their rights. The disease of absolute power corrupts absolutely, but then is cured by the cleansing action of daylight and the unstoppable force of the many who always outweigh the power of the greedy few. They may strike at each of us, but together, we are a force beyond their ability to contain and control, a force which then further ensures that the blessings of liberty are bestowed upon all, and our basic rights strengthened and reinforced with the fibers of a greater assertion and penning of those rights, so that the clear meanings of liberty, justice, equity, and democracy are never lost from the minds and souls of the citizen.

Hey Coldplayers
From a planet similar to this one, but wishing I was missing all the floopy mattresses. Mattresses - Hitchhikers The problem with Sqornshellous Zeta is all the racket mussed up by those mattresses, not so much from their follop and vollue, but from the noisy globbering they do during the day, that is when it's not raining in the swamps here. I think I will be moving to Earth soon, just to get a good nights rest! Once dried, the mattresses are shipped all over the universe, to be properly enjoyed, but when they're alive, they're soaking wet and jump all over the place when you least expect it; it's most unpleasant, hence the need to move. & Welcome!!! :+D :hat: Frome the aforementioned location in yonder Avatar.

Travelling alone
:laugh3: Well, they think they're headed to, oh, I suppose, the Chilean Andes and machu picchu, into the jungle or down some ancient Andean footpath where they can get a cup of some ancient herbal drink.. Then to where some colorfully dressed people are enjoying selling locally grown potatoes in the marketplace. Basically, if they see it on TV, than that's how they dress! Which I'm sure you're aware is absurd, but that's us. And no doubt you can find that in Chile if one heads way way back into the hinterlands, but obviously you have some very fine cities, with the older antique parts and the newer parts like pretty much anywhere, but with a Latin flair. But American tourists in NY, hm, how do they dress.... I would imagine, if they're coming from the Midwest, probably trying to look stylish enough to fit in - all depends. NY styles in winter - wear something normal, New Yorkers look like ordinarily dressed people in winter, but I'm sure tourists visiting try and dress up for NYC, well, because they're tourists!:laugh3: The irony is that the tourists probably buy the best fashions to wear in winter and then tour the city, which of course natives don't do except on special occasions. But at least NY fashions make their way to NY via tourists! Colorful coats, modern stuff, dark pants, sneakers or boots (for slushy dirty NY snow), a good warm hat - like at Rockefeller Center in winter? (JPEG Image, 660x456 pixels) But however you dress, it's NYC, so hey, you'll probably see anything and everything there.

Travelling alone
Awww, thanks Lore. Sounds like you've already been way high in altitude, maybe so far above the Andes there was no turbulence? Just trying to be punny - I had no clue how your roads are there, just took a guess!:laugh3: And now I know the rest of the story. Probably all really fine roads, expertly paved by the Incas? Well, like anywhere I am sure, modern ones, then ancient ones. Here they chose to use logs under some instead of nicely fit pavers, so riding on them is akin to one endless speedbump! Fortunately, only one or two of those remain, in the hinterlands. New York may have some quite old brick roads too in places. I'd set ya up with the Vanderbilts, Florence knows Gloria, want the number?:P So there you go - just dress like an American tourist! Well, one that's dressed for heading back to New Yaak, that is.

Travelling alone
Remember it's like going up in an elevator in a tall building, then down, even though the cabins are pressurized, or maybe because they are - your hearing gets dull from the changes in pressure, then your ears "pop" - it's the eustachian tube connected to your middle ear, equalizing the pressure, so then your hearing is normal again at altitude. Turbulence, now that's something else! The aircraft may be pushed up, then down, then up in air columns above mountains - it's no big deal, but it feels weird! :laugh3: Like a fast elevator suddenly stopping or starting, you get that light-in-your loafers feel, then squashed a bit in the seat, and it goes on for a while, but hey, mild compared to riding on bumpy Chilean roads?:P? Relax and have fun - air travel is safer that all other forms of travel, and the views are almost as good as mountain climbing, aand hopefully you'll be higher than the Andes! ;)

Riots on the Streets of UK
Remembering stories I've heard.. Back when Greg was a Beat Poet in Chicago, I remembering him saying something about the city - they used to open the matinees up and show non-stop cartoons for the youth, otherwise they'd all get bored and start thinking of ways to get into trouble... So why did they close the clubs? Saving money?? Ah, I remember the kids here when I was young... the apple dumpling gang. Bored kids on bikes, no parents around, with ideas.. and whatever popped into their heads, sometimes it wasn't the right thing to do! Generally less trouble to get into here though... generally that is. Kids need places to hang out, fun activities to do! That's just a shame they closed the youth clubs, and many knew what would result. Interesting yes. Just listening to it, towards the end.." Need jobs, got no money, looking to take something from someone else because they don't have it.." - yes, clearly there's the economic problem as well. Jobs are needed, they want work, somehow there ought to be a means to offer some work for pay in slow times.

Travelling alone
Yeah, it really is liberating - just going to where you're headed, noone else to worry about, free to take in the sites and enjoy the company of complete strangers! :laugh3: Actually, which is no big deal - since everyone's just rushing around like mad to get here or there in the airports, and you're assigned a seat. I unfortunately was assigned a seat next to a big fellow who took up two seats, so I wound up sitting next to someone else where there was a vacancy. Public works crew guy for DC making a deal on some plow trucks they bought after a snowstorm left the city paralyzed - & they feed their employs well! :laugh3::P Good fun, travel is an adventure.

Oh o.k. Kind of a combination of protest and looting, which is usually the case here. Yeah, unfortunate for the shopkeepers in those places, they're not to blame really, how sad.

Travelling alone
Infortainment Um, bring some thermal underwear, it's going to be cold there!:laugh3: You'll do fine Lore, just the running around connecting to flights in airports can be a bit of a leg race, and I'm sure if you've flown in and out of airports in Chile, you're probably accustomed to some of the most powerful turbulence in flight already, the air rising off the Alleghenies and Adirondacks will feel like gentle swells beneath the aircraft. Also, the smaller jets really have one helluva takeoff acceleration, if you haven't already experienced flying in one. And ear muffs (fuzzy ones):earmuffs:, or a really cool hat:santa:, aaand warm socks:socks:, and gloves. Also, last time I flew, the food was like something out of a vending machine, only they used a shrink ray on it first, and it came wrapped in shiny plastic foil. I don't know if you can carry on salted nuts or something to munch on anymore, as long as it complies with the new strict guidelines.. or just live with the airline food - hey, I know, go luxury class in a Jumbo Jet, then you'll be set!

Riots on the Streets of UK
I think it's more a matter of rebellious youth, feeling like they're on the outside, perhaps placing great value on what they see going on elsewhere in the world, and acting out as a result of a feeling that the government is working against the working class and simply for the elites. At least that's what I sense might be it, or provides them an excuse to try the things they are doing. The moods and modes of thought at the moment appear unclear. So they attack places that cater to those who are a bit better off, or take revenge on certain establishments for reasons unknown. Just speculating, something's fueling all this - What is?
