In my top 3 too. Wish the production didn't muffle the sound as much but the end of the song is perfectly fine :)
  2. Sparky replied to getithom's topic in Army Of One
Has really grown on me. I actually quite like the lyrics.
  3. Just that one super low quality soundcheck :( They rated it so much when X&Y was released. Still very baffling! I really like how Birds ends actually. Abrupt but it somehow works :P
  4. Because the title would be too long to have "Ft Beyonce" within it. When it's released as a single, casual music buyers who normally listen to club music won't find more than four words appealing and sales will drop. Or they'll be too drunk to read it properly. I bet the Google searches for "Coldplay So High" will rise!
  5. A Head Full Of Dreams -------- (Joins the likes of A Message, Oceans, Spies, What If. Top songs but not among the elite like Fix You, Viva La Vida etc..) Fun 9.0 (Fantastic!) Birds 8.5 (Epic ending) ----------- Amazing Day 8.0 (Those strings! Could of been at the top with clearer production) Up&Up 8.0 (Would be higher if it wasn't for the production :/ Noel and Jonny :) ) AHFOD 7.5 (Strong ending) ----------- AOAL 7.0 (Fun song but no ETIAW :p) Army Of One 7.0 (Growing on me!) Everglow 6.5 (Like it but prefer the live version by miles) X Marks The Spot 6.5 (A unique addition to the discography. Very different but wears off after a bit and poor lyrics) ----- Hymn For The Weekend 5.5 (Awful, awful lyrics. Good melody though and catchy. Prefer Beyonce over Rihanna) All Albums --------------- X&Y 9.5 (Masterpiece. Clean production, energetic, anthemic, no weak links. Their best album imo) AROBTTH 9.0 (Another Masterpiece. Best album lyrically. Simple. It lacked a little bit of 'edginess' in some places but almost perfect.) VLVODAAHF 8.5 (Very good album. Perhaps a bit under-rated at the time but emotionally the most expansive album with CoL, CSC, Viva, Violet Hill, SW and DAAHF) Mylo Xyloto 8.0 (Very colourful. I would say patchy in places - UATW, UFO, POC - but production was good and songs such as ETIAW and Paradise captured the atmosphere of the album very well) Parachutes 8.0 (Thinking about it, I think it's the strongest set of opening and closing tracks out of all the albums. Don't Panic and ENL - if you ignore LIFL - absolutely class. weaker 2nd half of the record but very strong debut!) A Head Full Of Dreams 7.5 (Very good set of songs, with the exception of a few. Could of been so much better if the production was much cleaner but there weren't any surprises there.) Ghost Stories 7.0 (Great album on first listen. Didn't have a lasting effect though. The atmosphere on Oceans, Midnight and All Your Friends is incredible, in addition to the AROBTTH esque Ghost Story but songs like Ink and O get very bland/boring after repeated listens.)
  6. UK figures: 1 Adele 354,000 2 Coldplay 236,000 3 Elvis Presley 4 Justin Bieber 5 Jess Glynne 6 Little Mix 7 Jeff Lynne's ELO 8 Rod Stewart 9 One Direction 10 Enya
  7. There's not much competition in rock music now and that doesn't help the music scene. Things started changing dramatically post 2007-2008 with the download era (then the streaming era in the last few years). The problem is, a much higher percentage of music consumers are kids and I don't know about you but I had a TERRIBLE taste in music when I was about 10 :p In 2005, you'd have to spend £2-3 on a single or £10 on an album which meant for most kids, which meant they'd only get their favourite pop song/album for Christmas / Birthdays. Now, kids can just stream Justin Bieber and One Direction all day! Instead of record companies investing in breakthrough rock/indie bands, they'll go for where the money is. I can see why they don't want to sound the same for 15 years but it's annoying that they're completing shutting out the idea of being a rock band. Was listening to an X&Y interview the other day, where they were praised Twisted Logic and how it's inspired by Muse and how it's the most aggressive song they've ever done. Phil Harvey (living in Australia at the time) called the rest of the band and said "whatever you do, keep that song on the album". Jonny simply said the main aim was that the songs were good. Now, there's too many 'filters', if you know what I mean, like having to produce demos for Stargate, who decide if they want to produce the track or not. Their first attempt at Fix You was the song we know today. Following attempts didn't have the climatic ending and were 'smoothed out'. No interference from Ken, who arguably produced their best work. A winning formula overlooked? (Despite Eno doing a good job for them) AHFOD is a good album and has some cracking songs on it but simplicity works best for them I think. Just simply conveying their thoughts and feelings through melodies and thoughtful lyrics without adding all of these conditions and rules. Chris on vocals + piano/guitar, Jonny on guitar, Guy on Bass and Will on drums. That's a typical line up of a rock band, no? I know Chris' influences are mainly pop related nowadays but unless they're planning to have Guy and Will sharing vocals and Jonny on the flute, the live set up of the band is that of a rock/indie band. Going slightly off topic from Coldplay, I found this old video of the 'rivalry' between the likes of Coldplay, Travis and Stereophonics (the latter are still sounding fresh while still sticking to the same formula). That Gwyneth reference :D
  8. I think they'll add a second date, like they did for Argentina so you should have another chance if you can't get tickets today.
  9. You simply select an option to print tickets from home and download a PDF after the purchase :)
  10. Got a ticket straight away in the pre-sale :D Was the smoothest ticket buy ever! Premium Branca ;)
  11. Watching it now, had to use Hola. Hope it's different to the Radio 1 set :P
  12. You can never have too much Coldplay on one album, no? :p If it's a good album, it can be 2 hours long for all I care! We've probably missed out on a few songs since they've been convinced an album should be close to 42 mins in length. Bieber on Rolling Stones and NME lists? Where's that Futurama Meme? ;)
  13. Adele is going to number #1 in the UK then. Bit of a downer after so many years of Coldplay supremacy!
