2012 Albums Worth Listening To
Damn this is good. The radiohead similarities are definitely there...But Radiohead have always set the bar so high that when something comes close I never think of it as a ripoff, but just great music. If one dismisses a radiohead-esque album as cheap and unoriginal, it paradoxically no longer bears any similarity to Radiohead.

Guess I'll be the first to say I'm partly disappointed with the new album. It's not that it's too slow or ambient (I have a tendency for overrating releases by Kyle Bobby Dunn or Celer for being precisely that), but that it just feels like they've run out of ideas, and had I not heard the first half of ( ), the latter half of Takk, and Riceboy Sleeps, I would be going ballistic about how incredible Valtari is. Instead, I can't stop myself from realizing where I have heard many of these melodies, tricks, progressions before. In some ways, it's too post-rock for its own good. The steady emotional bass drones are a bit predictable, as are the piano, violin, and vocal melodies that match them with atomic precision. It's still gorgeous, and I'll probable still get it on vinyl, but after such an impressive progression of sounds from album to album, I can't quite see where Valtari fits in. While Jonsi & Alex's release had some ambient credibility with its uneven timings and dense layering, the inclusion of the other bandmates turns it into a collection of slow motion pop songs that feel a little more transparent and less impactful from song to song, and I wouldn't be surprised if Pitchfork gave it as low as a 6 come release time.

just researched Torres' WC minutes and I was really off. Though he came in really late the last two matches, he started 2 or 3 other matches alongside Villa. mah bad dawg.

Naturally the World Cup is the bigger tournament. I should've added that that I thought that this particular one would be somewhat more meaningful to Torres to the extent that, despite frequently starting on the bench, he seemed to have a much more active role for Chelsea in winning this than he did for Spain at the world cup, where Villa was securely locked in as center striker. (my memory's a bit hazy, but I do remember he was barely on the field before Iniesta scored) Just really funny in the overall narrative of things. Him pissing off Liverpool because he wants champions league play, now doing all he can to piss off Chelsea now that he's won it... After things settled down last night, I thought, "Even though Reilly's probably also pissed at this result, the fact that all of his criticism's about Ribbery's over-confidence, and the massive overrating of Gomez and Schweinsteiger proved so poetically true throughout the match makes me think he's probably having a wry smile right about now". I swear that from the 70th minute through extra-time, I was seriously entertaining the thought that I had missed Gomez being substituted. I can't even remember the announcer calling his name for the last half-hour. Forget that one cross that took him by surprise (I thought the announcers were too hard on him for that) and even that great chance that he skyed into the upper deck. He just couldn't get involved in the play at all. Robben was almost as disappointing. Not just for the penalty miss, but for a score of missed chances and consistently piss poor set pieces. I don't completely blame the manager for the Buyten sub (though I don't know why you'd ever toy with the centerbacks, Tymoschuck was having a solid game at the back before being forced to push up), but why he took out Muller instead of, say, Kroos is beyond me.

In no position to paste, but apparently Torres has come out today saying that he is unhappy at Chelsea and was on the verge of 'giving up' this season because of his lack of starts. What a perfectly dick move to pull hours after winning the biggest trophy of his career (arguably)

Have to work during the final tomorrow, so get ready for some severely mistimed enthusiasm several hours after everyone begins to stop caring about the result.

ignoring that you've already said this recently, what the fuck does this mean? Man City obviously have the right to offer contracts to anyone. But somehow I think you construe to this to mean that your club is capable of giving Christiano Ronaldo an offer he can't refuse, which is ludicrous. Apart from young-budding stars from small clubs ready to jump at an offer from the first champions league quality team they see, if they're an established star and have an actual choice in the matter, Man City would scarcely be in their top 10.

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Man City), Rob Green (West Ham), John Ruddy (Norwich) Defenders: Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Man United), John Terry (Chelsea), Joleon Lescott (Man City), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton) Midfielders: Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Gareth Barry (Man City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Scott Parker (Tottenham), Ashley Young (Man United), James Milner (Man City) Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Man United), Danny Welbeck (Man United), Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham) Personally would've taken Crouch over Carroll any day of the week.

I don't know what to do
Part of my frustration was that we really have no idea what the source of her problem is. We know the symptoms, but her description of a mysterious change since January in which her popularity status has suddenly changed seems to imply that some series of events is responsible for her unfortunate state of affairs. I am NOT in the least implying that she somehow deserves the treatment because of something we don't know about. Only that, until we know more, all we can say is 'please stop cutting', 'find help', post  smiley's and the like...

I don't know what to do
If you actually want helpful advice, you could begin by giving us the larger context. I'm not into giving blind sympathy, as I remember too much from when by best friend went through an emo phase. I can only concur with alexa, and also suggest you stop thinking about some idealized happiness, as it seems like you already have it pretty well in the great stream of things. Just simplify your thoughts. What do you want? (happiness isn't a useful answer)

Oh well, at least we can stop hearing about how overdue they are. In lighter news, anyone see the Bromwich Fulop gaffes? hyslarious. The whole Bolton match also for that matter. I wonder if they'll hang on to Stuart Holden while he's still convalescing.

And to think I was on the verge of making a tumblr page full of Man City fans looking sad and angry. End was weird in hindsight. First the QPR bench is seen celebrating because they find out in extra time that they're staying up, and in the run of play leading up to the goal, I remember thinkingthe QPR defense wasn't looking anywhere near as compact as they had been the whole match and several minutes before. Each city striker had plenty of space at the front of the box. It's almost like they gave up.
