    are you real?
  3. Just have them put my itunes library on shuffle as a tribute to my impeccable taste.
  4. 1. Great cover Mike! 2. Been waiting for this. 3. This is freakishly close to my own guesstimated ratings.
  5. ^it was a good one, skipped fifteen minutes of class to catch the end.
  6. always look on the bright side of life - eric idle
  7. for those who don't go to coldplay.com anymore... Q. Dear Oracle, What do you think about The King Of Limbs? The Oracle replies: I like it; think it sounds like a lush soundtrack and very easy to have on in the background. Tracks 5-8 are my favourites. Short though isn't it? I bought it on Friday and had a few listens. Unfortunately my soon to be ex-flatmate listened to it on repeat for two days and has somewhat tainted it with no joy of repetition. I shall now be avoiding it for the foreseeable future.
  8. Sure everyone's psyched for concacaf champions league tomorrow... :cheesy: I'm actually really bummed that I may miss the inter-munich match on wednesday. Whether or not I do is contingent on whether I can acquire the balls to skip a class.
  9. Its an awesome video, though it kind of adds to the feel of it being more of a Thom solo album than a radiohead album.
  10. I'll be pissed if Thom doesn't do the bowler hat dance when playing that song live.
  11. there is more to music than rock and guitars.
  12. I like Mr. Magpie. Its kind of the bodysnatchers of the album. Only song I can't fully embrace is Little by Little. I like the bass line and Jonny's guitar but can't love it just yet.
  13. Funny enough, after that last post I took my headphones (by no means high quality) out and listened to the album while strolling around campus. 3/4 of the way through I wanted to erase my post as I realized that there really is no stark contrast. Apart from a more accessible chord structure, the arrangements and instrumentation are consistent with the sound of the first few songs. the band just ordered the songs in the most sensible way possible which involves a crescendo with the more emotional, slower songs, and then drop down to the dry, groovyness of the closer. It's a beautiful album, and I'm done complaining.
  14. three days of listening to the same album, and I still have trouble evaluating my opinion of it. Like usual the band makes it nearly impossible to compare with previous albums (amnesiac comparisons are the most valid, but it still feels like a different animal). Individually I can easily rave about each songs. Bloom, for instance, is an absolute masterpiece. I think what's unsettling is the disconnect between the first and second half of the album. The first four/five tracks all seem to share a cohesiveness that Mike was describing, and I feel like I would be more satisfied if the rest kind of complemented that vibe (not that they all sounded the same, but in the same sense that songs on in rainbows fit well together while still being unique). By the time you get to codex, its like a different band has taken charge. Its like Give up the ghost and Separator were taken from different albums and tacked on. You have half an album, and then a bunch of singles. So maybe I rather the whole album been built around either the first or second halves. Now I feel like I'm splitting hairs. All I can say is that, as a whole its not the transcendent, completely fulfilling, cathartic experience I had dreamed of...but fuck it, its some freaking great music, much of which is as beautiful and more unique than anything I've heard from the band before. There are only a few bands that would cause me to lift my expectations so ridiculously high, and had I never heard of the band before this album, I would be blown away and raving about it to everyone I know. And I'll keep listening to this album this week, not because I'm hoping for it to magically improve, but because I really like what I'm hearing.
  15. I really like Little by Little and Ferel, but I'm not crazy about the fact that they're side by side. I find that I enjoy them more with the album on shuffle than in its regular order.
  16. Wake me up oh wake me uh-uh-uh-uh-up! /random
  17. Yeah, I always expect the studio version to be a bit domesticated. Its interesting to hear him spice up the vocals, though I prefer it when his pitch doesn't shoot up until 'the ghost' in the bridge. It will always be better live, but I also like the subtle strings and guitar accompaniments the other guys added. In any case, the live recordings I have are pretty rough quality, so I can't help but love hearing it in its polished glory.
  18. Haha, happens to me all the time.
  19. it's almost like a brief interlude for me. I was playing around listening to the songs in a different order, and realized that for most of the track you just have an assortment of sounds without any clear musical pattern other than the drums. Only near the end to you have a consistent bass and a tiny loop of Thom's voice. I'm not saying this is a 'bad' thing, as I actually find it really soothing, but its not really a 'song' so much as an assortment of whatever sounds and loops they felt like throwing in, and some people find that frustrating.
  20. Respectably diverse i think. Although I almost never listen to rap or certain forms of hip-hop, if I had my music on shuffle for an hour, there's a very good chance you would here a mix of ambient/drone, post-rock, classical, electronic, indie-pop and alternative.
  21. How about Everton. When I saw Chelsea scored in e.t. I switched to the bremen game. Then the internet dies so I run into a public computer lab to see some nigerian guy was watching the P.K's on his computer.
  22. Yeah, the length is what I'm having trouble coming to terms with. If there were a few other solid songs interspersed throughout the first half, this would surely be one of their greatest albums.
  23. I know its just a zombie video game trailer but... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Old41bsSXU]YouTube - Dead Island Official Announcement Trailer HD[/ame]
