"don't mind Manson, but this is Aerosmith we're talking about!:o" ...And in Boston no less!:shocked2: Jeez! Some people have no respect for great bands... Incidently, didn't Coldplay's timeline have a bit about getting bottled at that show?:laugh3:

I've got a line 6 delay, a boss delay pedal I hardly ever use (can't even remember the number at the moment, pretty sure it's a DD5 .), and just recently I got the Twin Pedal version of the old Roland Space Echo, which so far, I'm liking a great deal.

"The DD-7 looks very intriguing" From what I've seen, it looks to be getting mixed reviews (at best.) I've not heard it myself though so I can't really say...

What's this about the headliner of Summersonic only getting a one hour slot? I know festival headlining sets are usually scheduled to be a bit short, but that seems really unusual, especially considering the popularity of bands usually picked to headline Summersonic...

Jonny has two painted Tele's, a black one and a natural one, but they've both been around since Twisted Logic To answer your question Lil' Miss, for distortion I use an Ibanez Tube Screamer, and MXR Micro Amp with the gain pushed to maximum, and the dirty side of my Fender Hotrod 2x12. (though the Bass player in my band has an old Russian Big Muff she doesn't use much, so I've been sort of nicking it lately, I really like the sound of it too...) EDIT: I just realized that question was not really adressed to me. Oh well, if anyone wants my answer, you've got it...

What do you think about the running time of "Viva La Vida" tour concerts???
"I disagree. I do not like criticism for criticism sake, but constructive criticism helps the band. By your logic, if coldplay live was terrible we should say nothing and not go ever again. So ultimately everyone stops going and there is no more coldplay." I agree that constructive critisism helps the band. If I was in a position to offer such critisism to the band, or someone related to their organization, I would, the problem is, I'm not. I based my statement on three factors: 1. That the majority of the complaints against Coldpay's live show are not new, and have been around at least since the begginning of the Twisted Logic tour. This to me implies they are not temporary issues, but rather longterm ongoing ones. 2. I highly doubt complaints posted on an online message board will even reach the band, let alone seriously influence the band's decision making process. 3. It seems to me that their are a fairly large amount of fans who do seem satisfied with the show as is, which makes it even less likely the band will feel the need to change. Anyway, I wasn't talking about your posts per se. You and a few others seem legitimately interested in posting your opinions, and also seem interested in what others have to say. There are, however, many others, most of whom I doubt ever were Coldplay fans, who seem to have come to the site lately, post the same negative messages multiple times, and berate anybody who does enjoy the band or their shows. You are not one of the people to whom the critisism in my post was directed. On a final note, while I agree with you somewhat about the poll results (and my personal vote was in one of the "unsatisfied" catagories BTW) I think this thread by it's nature attracts and appeals to those who are looking for a "safe" thread to post a negative opinion (one where they will be less likely to be jumped on for daring to utter critisism.) In addition, the people who are devoted enough to the band to even bother posting here (and again I include myself in this catagory), are probably more demanding and harder to please than a lot of the more casual fans who make up a good portion of Coldplay's live audience these days. Anyway, the way the poll is worded, I don't see why anyone would select the "satisfied" option. No matter how long the band played, it's only logical the audience wouldn't mind more songs... I don't think all the people suggesting "stay home" want to "shut up" complainers however, rather I think experience tells them that declining sales/attendence is the only feedback a lot of bands seem to respond to at all. (I know when I posted thoughts to the "stay home" effect, I was thinking entirely from this angle .) It would be cool if someone in the band's organization read things such as this board in order to relay fan opinion to the band, but as much as I want to believe that, I do doubt it....

Liam Gallagher still hates Coldplay...or their fans
Stuff like that is to be expected from Liam. It's who he is. With the new Oasis record about to drop, I fully expect the usual round of slagging from him (and Noel) in the near future. The part that gets me is the bit about Coldplay "not looking like their enjoying themselves", When Oasis stands about on stage like a series of poles rooted in the ground. Not to mention Andy Bell's just the best vaguely dissinterested facial expression outside of Charlie Watts.:laugh3: (And before you jump on me, let it be said that I love both Andy and Charlie). Noel should really go solo, he's got Talent, and is cool. Liam is like a trained ape, without very good training...

Boston - Gilette Stadium show...
I've been to stadium gigs as late as the end of November (and I'm in the Midwest, so November is decidedly a winter month), so it's not unheard of. Still it is a bid odd that they would choose a cold area of the country to put on an outdoor gig, given that there are many warmer places their not playing at all this year...

I always thought it was kind of weird that the free gig before the tour proper was going to be the only time they played in NYC this year.

What do you think about the running time of "Viva La Vida" tour concerts???
"When changing 1 song a night is "more than ever before" thats extremely sad" Well, it may be sad, but it is true. And despite what some on here think, it's more than a lot of bands. I stand by my statement, Coldplay need a great deal of improvement to become a truly great live act, they are improving slightly. The thing is at this point, most of the complaints with Coldplay's live show are nothing new. If you go see them perform expecting them to do something past evidence clearly shows they're not going to do, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. I get that some of you think the show sucks. What I don't get is why you refuse to accept other people do like the show, or why people feel the need to cut and paste the EXACT SAME negative comments dozens of times and flood every thread with the same message. At this point, IMHO it's pretty clear what a Coldplay show is going to be like, and has been for years, that's either acceptable to you or it's not, but it's not going to change. If you think other bands are better live, save your money and go see their shows instead.

What do you think about the running time of "Viva La Vida" tour concerts???
I agree it's a bit foolish to make repeated excuses for the flaws in the show. If the show is flawed, it's flawed, regardless of whether the band is "tired" or not, or whether they played recorded songs before or after their performance That said, I still think Coldplay is relatively young, and are still adjusting to their status as big arena headllining band. I've said it in a previous post, but it seems to me they are taking baby steps this tour toward being a better live act. Though there sets are still short and roughly the same from night to night, they are playing more songs than they ever have before, and are changing the setlist up more than on previous tours. Judged against themselves, IMHO Coldplay are improving, but they do still have a long way to go.

It's the same Black Thinline he's used as his main live guitar since the start of Twisted Logic. The pickguard has been replaced by a painted one. (as have the pickguards on the natural thinline and the Jazzmaster.) His Reissue Les Paul Deluxe is also painted, but in that case on the body of the guitar itself.

Boston - Gilette Stadium show...
"Sounds like a U2 concert" Except that a U2 show is one of the few arena shows where the people behind the stage can actually see the band. That's why they're the modern masters of stage design.
-
Boston - Gilette Stadium show...
That's a common opinion, and a valid one. However, for me as a fan the concert going experience can be good at a stadium gig if the band perform well. When I saw the Stones at Soldier Field, I was as far back as it was possible to be, yet the raw energy and noise from the packed stadium made for a very electric atmosphere. Then there are bands like U2 that use Stadium gigs to put on productions of such massive scale that they really couldn't be held anywhere else. Anyway with the Horrid sightlines in most modern indoor arena's you are essentially blind in vast areas of the upper seating anyway, so IMHO there's actually not that much difference being far away in a stadium. Most of the time you're watching the gig on a screen anyway.

"ok. sorry" I didn't mean my reply to be rude or harsh, but I can see (now) how it kind of does read that way. If I offended you, I apologize.:)

Boston - Gilette Stadium show...
It's a blank spot on Coldplay's tour schedule as well. (and the location's of the shows before and after the rumored date make a show in that general area a geographic possibility...) Perhaps, they're playing a single stadium date to see if there's enough demand for gigs of that scale?

Boston - Gilette Stadium show...
I kind of doubt this is true... As cool as It would be to see Coldplay do a stadium show, it seems a bit close to the preposed date for details not to be confirmed yet. I remember when My dad's company had a box at the UC in Chicago just after it opened, and they got a lot of notice's for events that never actually ended up happening.

What do you think about the running time of "Viva La Vida" tour concerts???
I think the fundimental point we have to agree on is this: Good or Bad, Coldplay's live show is what it is. Nobody except the band has the ability to change one f^%king thing about the show. Either go or don't, but at thid point, there's plenty of information out there on which to base a decision of whether or not the show is worth it in your mind. I understand expressing dissappointment in the show, but to many people here seem to demand change (which is beyond the power of anyone here to grant.), belittle the opinions of those who did enjoy the show, or post the same complaint on multiple threads several times (in some cases I have seen dozens of times and with the EXACT SAME text to boot.) There is an issue on these boards with some fans who jump on anyone who has anything negative to say about the live show, but IMHO a lot of the people who post negative comments (not all, mind you), seem less interested in posting their opinion than they are in causing as much tension and ill will as possible among the general Coldplaying Community. Post your opinions in a civil and intellegent manner and respect the fact that others need not agree with you, and we'll all be better off. Just my two cents...

I'm not crazy about reissue Vox Amps. They seem to have captured most of the negative issues of the originals while altering the sound just enough to destroy the "vintage tone" most people are going for when they use one.

The list was of MY top five live acts. DMB is NOT one of my top five live acts. Being that's it's a matter of opinion, I don't see why I should list them when I don't enjoy them as much live as the bands I did name...

Nothing against it, it's just not my thing. That's one of the problems with music in general today, people can't grasp the fact that everything won't appeal to everyone.

Jonny mainly uses Vintage Fender Thinline Telecasters. As to what's good for you, it really depends on your prefrences and what you play, so I always hesitate to make blanket recomendations.

"How can there be a list of the top 5 best live bands without Dave Matthews Band?" For a few reasons: -I don't particularly like Jam Bands, (and before you jump on me, I know the Black Crowes could be considered a Jam Band.:P) -I have a few issues with their live sets sometimes. (mixing it up, which you are right the pioneered is great but they go to far sometimes.) I've seen them do sets mostly of b-sides, rareties and whatnot, which me being a casual fan (if you can even consider me that), left me wondering what the f^&k they were playing for long portions of the set -They tend to play outdoor venues which I hate with a seething passion. (Amphitheater's suck!) -There fans tend to be a bit too hippy for my taste, so being jammed in with a mass of thousands of them tends to sour my live experience. I've seen them twice though (both times because friends wanted to go and someone else bought my ticket.), and given that I don't particularly like them, they are fairly good as a live act.
