  1. Does he have 5 now? I know last tour he had four, but at the Chicago show, he played one that looked to me to be new (well not new, vintage, but new for him)
  2. "Are there also pics of Guy's pedals" I've yet to find any clear photos of Guy's pedalboard yet, though it does seem like he has a fairly sizable board this tour as well. If I find anything, I'll be sure to post.
  3. "...performs/performed daylight with Chris's 12-string." On the 2007 Latin American tour, he played Daylight on his Walnut Thinline, so that goes to show you the guitar is of secondary importance to many other factors in playing a song.
  4. During the Vertigo Tour edge had 57 guitars on the road!:laugh3: His "rack" is actually two standard racks linked together and places side by side to allow for the sheer number of units. His effects switcher (circa 2005):
  5. "hot lesbians and Coldplay, how can you beat that  hahahaha)" :wink3:
  6. On Lovers in Japan, does anyone know what Jonny uses to produce the "doppler" effect in the middle part of the song. It's clearly some effect applied to the guitar line, bu to my knowledge he doesn't have anything in his rig (like an H&K Rotosphere) that can produce this effect.
  7. Agreed. He You can see in the video how he goes to pick up his bass and then seems to realize he's not needed for the song. He puts it down rather calmly (not like he's mad or anything) and leaves slowly, he doesn't exactly storm off in a huff.
  8. It just seems to me that there are several specific little things the band is doing this tour that seem to me like attempted responses to critisisms the've gotten as a live act in the past, and IMHO that's a good thing. It could also have a lot to do with the fact that for me outdoor amphitheater shows pretty much suck (sound is never good, seating plan usually sucks), so I much prefer seeing the band indoors.
  9. asnigro- perhaps the tone of my older post was harsher then I would have liked, I'm just getting a bit peeved at people who have signed up here just to b&%ch about things without offering any kind of reason. After reading a few of of you posts, it's clear to me you are not one of these people. That said, I still must take issue with a few things you've said. "Yeah and according to Cubs.com or ticketmaster every cubs game is sold out after the first day tickets go on sale so go figure what pollstars info is worth. " Yes but the key differnce in these situations is that both the Cubs and Ticketmaster have a direct financial stake in inflating ticket sales news. Pollstar on the other hand is an impartial organization that simply reports numbers, and has a reputation for accuracy in doing so. "And FYI, it was the Tuesday show that was added, not the wednesday I believe, please correct me if I'm wro g.n" Actually, I must admit I could be wrong on this. If you are right, it lends credence to the possibility that the added show wasn't sold out. (though I still maintain that independant sources claim it was) "And also the low prices people were able to get outside the arena and from craigslist is what I am gauging demand by." Don't pay attention to such things myself so I wouldn't know. Still even for a hugely popular band two nights at the UC (one of the highest capacity U.S, arenas is a tough gig to sell out completely.) Also, I'm aware that the text style of this post went weird halfway through, not sure why and am too lazy to change it...
  10. "So I assume a lot of you went to shows for the X&Y album correct? Well which tour did you like better" This tour hands down! While I respect the OP for having at least backed her critisisms of the show with specific reasoning (which is more than a lot of "new posters" on here) Call me cynical but I can't help but think many people have come here recently just to stir things up.:dozey: Anyway-reasons why I feel the new live show is bar far the band's best LENGTH-I know some people still have a problem with the length of the set, but I feel the band is, at the very least, trying to improve in this regard, and at best, have put this complaint to rest. To be fair, I always felt this complaint was unfounded during Twisted Logic given the size of the band's catalog. It's unfair to compare them to veteran acts that have 20-30 years of material to draw from. (and are also generally more expensive) Coldplay are one of very few major headliners I can think of who's top priced tickets have a face value under $100 U.S. 20-22 songs (which is what the new set is) is to me, very reasonable for a band with four LP's in their catalog JON & GUY-these two are much better stage performers now then they've ever been in the past. They've both really stepped up IMHO CHRIS' VOICE-Much better then either time I saw them during Twisted Logic NEW SONGS- VLVODAAHF is my favorite LP of the 4, so any show with music from that record is cool in my book. Once again, I in no way mean to belittle anyone's opinion, but I love the new shw and would take it over the old one any day.
  11. "There were plenty of empty seats in the 300's on Tuesday night, that's for sure" Actually, according to Pollstar, both nights were sold out, so I'm not sure what this is about. I was on the floor so I couldn't really see the 300's that much myself. I do know that a large percentage of fans in the nosebleeds are being moved to the front floor rows on this tour, so perhaps that's the reson why "plenty" of upper seats were empty (if indeed they were:thinking:)... It doesn't really make sense for that to be the case here anyway as the Wednesday show was an ADDED date, as in added due to DEMAND. Why would they add a 2nd date if the first show wasn't sold out? Excuse me if I take your comments with a dose of skeptisism...:dozey: As for the "sucky" performance/setlist, I've now seen the band 6 times (going all the way back to 2001), and these two nights in Chicago were BY FAR the best I've ever seen them live. You are of course entitled to your opinion, but I really don't see how anyone could consider these shows "bad", unless the issue is that you don't like the new songs, inb which case the show will be bad for you no matter what they do. As to the setlist, I think they essentially HAD to repeat themselves if indeed they were filming a full length concert film. It's not that uncommon for bands to film two nights so that they have more material from which to fashion a finished product. U2 did the same thing when I saw them two nights at the UC in 2005.
  12. two of the pedals are expression pedals, not Wah's. One looks like it's connected to the reverb pedal and the other is probably for volume As for the foot control. I'm assuming Jonny does most of his onstage controlling with the custom Mike Hill switcher on the main board. However, there is a Voodoo Labs Ground Control Pro in the photo with the rack, But I'm guessing that's used off-stage by his tech to control his sound when he's away from his board.
  13. "He has enough gear" Only about 1/10th as much as The Edge. I'm convinced Edge's rig could fly to the moon and back!:laugh3:
  14. Saw the first Chicago show (My first for this tour). Long story short I thought it was both a terrific show and represented an improvement by the band in many respects from the other times I've seen them live. Some thoughts: -Good setlist. The new songs really came alive played live and the old ones all sounded tight as well. Was impressed that they lengthened the set as well. Also by my count, no two shows yet on the tour have had the exact same setlist which is cool. -Both Jonny and Guy seemed more energetic than I had seen them ever before. These two have really stepped up their stage style IMHO. -Chris' voice was MUCH better than both times I saw them during Twisted Logic. Also about him letting backup tapes "do most of the work", it seemed to me that when backup tapes were extensively used, he was busy playing guitar. Most of the songs where he wasn't playing something (and thus would be free to do some of the work the backing tracks did) were those songs not using heavy backing. -Side stage bit was cool but totally lifted from the first encore of Popmart (thankfully sans giant fruit):laugh3: -Acoustic set was a bit weird. IMHO heavily traded sound quality for the novelty of playing in the audience. Overall, best Coldplay show I've been to (out of 5 total). It seems to me the new live show seeks to actively adress some of the critisisms that have been made about Coldplay as a live act in the past, and again IMHO, they've succeeded in that regard
  15. I've been listning to the live recordings of Violet Hill Again and it sounds to me as though the OCD is the main source of distortion (though it could be the HBE as well) It's almost certainly neither the RAT or the Tubescreamer. The POG could also be in there, but I can't hear an octive pedal consistantly, perhaps it goes in and out?
  16. I think I've got it all figured now (apart from the custom made gear which is almost impossible to definatively id. PEDALS (left to right): Fulltone OCD EHX Micro POG Pro Co RAT Ibanez Tube Screamer Boss TU2 (top) HBE Power Screamer Boss RV5 MXR Phase 90 Boss DD5 Line 6 DL4 RACK (top to Bottom): Boss TU2 TC Electronics 2290 (x2) Line 6 Echo Pro (x2) [i think this particular unit is no longer made] Eventide H7600

  18. The solo on Violet hill doesn't sound like the POG to me. I'm pretty sure the OCD is what provides. the main heavy distortion for violet hill. I'm almost positive the POG is used in the first part of 42. other than that, I'm still trying to figure things out....:worried2:
  19. for some reason, these images look WAY distorted when I try to post them here (never seen this happen with other images I've posted...), but here's a link to GOOD photos of his entire new rig. (anyone who can identify the whole thing, please do so, as a few things are hard to ID) http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2037891 Enjoy!:wink3:
  20. For some reason, I can't get the images to post right (which is why I was forced to link to them to begin with...) Sorry...
  21. http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2037891 having a bit of trouble indentifiying(sp) a few things though. Can anyone identify bits of the new rig?
  22. Cool! Thanks for the link. So... from the looks of that rack he has 2 tc delays and what looks to be 2 Mod Echo Pros (judging by the color). Is the big grey unit at the bottom a compressor? It looks similar to some I've seen in other racks... From the pedals it's clear he's not using the Space Echo after all... Aside from that he looks to have only added the expression pedals and the ocd. Can anyone positively identify all the gear in the new rig?
  23. Is Jonny using the jazzmaster for this? Sounds like it, and someone told me they read this somewhere, but I can't find anything about it!:\
  24. Generally however, Oasis is regarded as having made two great albums at the very least.
  25. For those commenting about the length of the setlist... I don't really think the set is all that short. Have Jam bands really skewed perception that much with their endless noodling solos and parade of obscure b-sides!? For comparison, I researched U2 setlists (if you won't take my word on this look for yourself: http://www.u2tours.com ) Vertigo Tour: 21-23 songs Elevation Tour: 19-22 songs This is the FACTUAL contents of recent u2 sets. Only marginally longer than Coldplay's and this considering U2 has TONS more material to draw a set from, AND charges higher ticket prices. Just a bit of perspective... Don't get me wrong, if you don't think the length of a show (by any band) is worth the money, don't pay and don't go, but the simple fact is the length of coldplay's shows is well within the range for modern headliners. Sure some bands play longer (though I'm willing to bet the majority of such bands have larger catalogs to draw from), but a fair amount of headliners play comprable length sets (or in some cases shorter) The decision of whether a concert is good value for the money is, in short, an entirely personal and subjective choice....
