Well, matchmaker was a regular tv show and not music television, but... I guess Coldplay doesn't mind or else they wouldn't have let 'em do it. I have also heard them play Clocks on ER and once they played one of their songs in a trailer for a Peter Pan movie in the cinemas.. (the rock thing cracks me up, though :D )

This thread turned into a political thread, when I wasn't really intending on it to be. I'm not into politics at all. I know that I should try to be more involved, but there are times when I think that there is nothing that I can do to change things. One person living in suburbia?? To be able to change things, you have to be a politician. And talking about it will not change a single thing, only people will continue to disagree and things will go no where because people have their opinions and will stick to them. Even though I did not completely agree to starting a war, that does not mean that I am ashamed of my country and will go so far as to moving somewhere else. As rf_ucsd said -"you see other people talking about their countries in a positive light because when you think of Britian and Spain and Germany and France you don't think of countries going around the globe starting wars." I know that Britain did not start the war, but they did participate in it which means that they did support it. And I may not agree with all of Bush's policies, but I don't call him an idiot. I think I may have heard of the word limey, but I have never used it and do not hear it regularly in everyday conversations. The only thing that I may hear is "brits", but that's about it. And yes, I did see Sammie's post about Bush and Cheney, but I can do nothing about that. It's her opinion. I know that I have not been on this board for very long, but I have yet to see a thread like that about any other countries -with the exception on the Tony Blair poll. I started this thread to look at american culture, and perhaps to see how we may be different from other cultures, but not to compare and to say that one country is better or superior than the other. Anyways, I feel like I have more to say, but it's not coming to me right now...

I know this is a little off topic, but did they have pictures of anthony hopkins too??

I've been google searching this soo hard but I haven't been able to find anything. And we were at the University of Chicago when they were taping, but they had "stunt doubles" to practice the seen at first, because the people we saw were not gwyneth or jake gyllenhaal!! i knew those people weren't the real thing!!! We left early 'cause I had to go to work, so they must 've taped it afterwards!!! Oh wow!!! I just saw on the Rolling Stones website that Coldplay IS IN CHICAGO recording their new album!! We must find them!!! WE MUST!! I JUST heard Coldplay's Scientist on the american show "The Matchmaker". Didn't they say that they didn't want their songs in commercials or movies b/c that would be selling themselves out? Do tv shows have to do something special to be able to get their song on the show? Just wondering..

i still believe that you're generalizing from one person who said that about germans - and it made you so mad, that you remembered it and think that all other americans think that way. and for the tv shows? you judge americans on FICTIONAL tv shows? i know that in my history classes they did not focus on the fact that we were the ones who leaded the "divine crusade" as you may seem to think. instead they focused on the horrible incidents that occured in the concentration camps at that time, so i still don't know what you're talking about. and never once did i hear anyone in my classes say that if if wasn't for us, everybody would be speaking german.. or anywhere else for that matter.

i remember reading this.. it's true about what he says - either you like someone or you don't - you know the whole judge a book by it's cover, but in this case it would be - think a person is great b/c of their fame, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they're genuinely a good person. i still think thought that chris is probably a good person and he would be really cool to meet in person!! :cool: i think that gwyneth probably really is not as 'hollywoodish' as other actresses, but then i've never met her so you never know! :/
