  1. Those videos are with Noel. I can't see Liam collaborating with Coldplay.:) And Liam's comments used to be hilarious. He's lost his edge though. They're no longer as witty as they used to be.
  2. Yeah, the way the faces look will take some time to get used too.
  3. I agree with this, but he should have known this before. Now it's just pointless whining by someone who made a lot of money by playing those festivals.
  4. I think it looks quite good actually. I was expecting worse. They already did it in 'classic' animation, so I don't think it's a bad idea to try something different. However, I don't understand why they completely removed Tournesol/Calculus from the story...
  5. It's my least favourite album too (although I don't like Angles too much either). But the FIOE songs they played on their last tour translated much better live than some of the Angles songs.
  6. OK, I usually keep myself away from these kinds of forum discussions, but this is nonsense, disrespectful but most of all pretty stupid. And that is all that can be said about this quote.

Most intelligent reaction I've read on this.
  8. I thought that was the law in most countries?

Not too impressed with it yet. I do like the trumpets.
  10. Still sounds just as elitist to me. Maybe even more so.
  11. OK, I think every Portishead album so far has been brilliant. And I don't care for fireworks and confetti either. However, at Werchter they played a very uninspired gig. Pointless noodling on a lot of the songs and some weird fuck-ups. The band seemed lost. But they have always been a hit-and-miss band live. I think Geoff Barrow can say whatever he wants, but he's a big hypocrite. If he doesn't like the line-up of a festival he's playing, then there's one solution. Don't play there. But don't bite the hand that feeds you afterwards. He knew the line-ups, knew that there was always going to be fireworks and stuff, so if that really disturbs him, he should have refused the money and stayed home (or play a different festival). Now he just took the money and started whining afterwards. Diva behaviour.

  13. So... the Strokes in Paris. We left home (i.e. somewhere in Belgium) around noon. Due to a combination of roadworks, traffic jams, horrible weather, floods, a crazy hitchhiker and a crappy gps system, we only arrived in Paris at about 6 pm. When we arrived at the venue we saw that they were just about to open the gates. Unfortunately, we didn't have any tickets yet, so we started our mad search for tickets. We made a sign 'need 2 tickets' and we were immediately surrounded by ticket touts. They asked 300 euro for 2 tickets. Which we obviously weren't planning on paying. We decided to head for the subway station since we figured that's were most of the people needed to pass. BAD IDEA. As we made our way from the venue to the metro station we were followed by a ticket tout. And then a second one. Followed by a third one. By the time we arrived at the entrance of the metro station, there were about 50 touts who had their eyes on us. Including people on scooters and motorbikes. We tried to approach a girl who held an extra ticket, but as soon as she got the ticket out, she was surrounded by the touts who brutally took away her ticket and then threw her 5 euro or something. They then made it clear that we should stop holding up our sign or else... . We actually had gotten really scared and contemplated on going home again. Before we left home, we had worked out a back-up plan in case we couldn't get any tickets, which consisted of the following: However, we totally weren't in the mood for gin-tonic after those experiences so that (and the inevitable paracetamol for the day-after) proved to be pretty useless.:P As we walked back to the venue (where it was safer since there was some form of security) a girl came towards us and quickly said she wanted to sell us tickets at face value since she only wanted to sell them to 'real fans'. We gave her the money (very fast, since the touts had seen what was going on and were approaching us) and then made a mad run to the entrance. Completely out of breath, we found a good spot in the middle of the floor area. :) As was to be expected the start of the gig was pure madness. They opened with New York City Cops, which was an immediate highlight of the gig. In fact, it was such a highlight that they had trouble achieving that kind of power and intensity for the rest of the gig. I think the setlist was basically the same as the festival gigs. Lots of big songs in the first half which had everyone jumping around like crazy. There was a bit of a dip in the set halfway though. The new songs didn't all come across too well I thought. Especially Under Cover Of Darkness was a bit meh. Machu Picchu did rock though! I thought the atmosphere within the band was good (lots of smiles from everyone) but something did seem to happen between Julian and Nikolai when at some point there were a couple of angry looks between the two of them. I had no idea what that was about. They both did seem to forget about it along the way and exchanged a couple of smiles later on. Like I said, there was a bit of a dip halfway but they totally mad up for that with the end of the regular set (with awesome renditions of Juicebox and Last Nite) and the encores. The classic set closer Take It Or Leave It was (along with the opener New York City Cops) the big highlight for me. All in all a great gig! You could say that they basically play the exact same gig they did 10 years ago (leaning heavily on Is This It, Julian stumbling over his own lyrics, a mostly static band), but who cares when you've got songs this good? Like I said in a previous post, a Strokes gig is mostly about the songs and the reaction in the crowd. And Paris delivered on both fronts. I do have to say that the sound was horrible. I moshed my way towards different spots on the floor and it was just as bad everywhere I went. At times, you couldn't even make out what Julian was singing. But French crowds rock! Perrine said that French crowds usually don't know English too well, but this gig proved to be the exception. The crowd was singing louder than Julian at times!:P I wasn't able to take any pictures since I was in the middle of the crowd jumping around way too much. I'm curious for Perrine's pics. Hope she was able to get a good spot!
  14. Hmmm, that's not entirely true. At an outdoor festival, it's a lot easier to get the sound right than at any indoor venue, no matter how many bands are playing. Of course, if there is absolutely no time for a soundcheck, then it can be pretty bad too. But you don't have to account as much for echo's, lay-out of the venue, acoustics, etc. By the way, the sound was horrible at the Paris (indoor) gig. About as bad as it can be I thought. Overall, I obviously prefer indoor gigs over festivals, but some of the best gigs I've seen have been festival gigs.
  15. Dat eerste album moet je zeker eens beluisteren! Bevat eigenlijk enkel knallers. En ik vind het de belangrijkste plaat van de jaren 2000. Zonder het succes van Is This It geen Arctic Monkeys, Editors, Franz Ferdinand, Kings Of Leon, The Libertines, Bloc Party, ... . En dan stonden de affiches van Werchter en Pukkelpop nog altijd vol Limp Bizkit klonen zoals toen het geval was.
  16. I made it in! Looking back on it, we took some crazy risks to get that ticket and it could have ended pretty badly. Full gig report coming up when I'm fully recovered from the past couple of days.:P Don't have any pics since it was a madhouse where I was standing. :P

  20. Good voice, catchy singles, somewhat interesting personality and success in the US.
  21. I agree with a lot of this. You should give Anna Calvi a listen too.
  22. I don't hate Adele. I quite like her actually. And her album isn't the only one on the list that feels a bit out of place. But there are some pretty good albums on the list!
  23. Yes. The Undertones.
