42!

Well, I guess it's time to talk about another release... I'll give Moon Music some mild credit—it feels like a more genuine effort compared to MOTS, but that's not exactly a high bar. There's not much that really stands out, though. The title track is pleasant enough. 🌈 is easily the best track on the album for me, and the one I've found myself returning to today. AETERNA is a decent dance track, too. It’s not what most Oldplayers are looking for, but let's be honest, that ship sailed long ago. And that’s where the positivity stops. My main issue? The lyrics. They’re just so cheesy. This barely sounds like music for adults anymore. Chris seems to be stuck in this lullaby-like cadence for the piano ballads, and it makes them tough to listen to. I don’t get what he's going for here—you don’t need lyrics and vocals this basic and corny to appeal to a wide audience. It’s been said before, but they’re basically making Subaru commercial music and selling it on QVC. I could live with a more pop sound if the songs didn’t feel so empty. Please, give us something with more substance. As for the mixing, it’s mostly just Chris and a drum machine. You’d barely know Johnny was even there on most of these tracks. Overall, it's just kind of... meh. 😑

Lord have mercy... what has happened to the band of my childhood? Everyday Life was mildly enjoyable, but the goodwill they earned from me with that album is now gone. I could even forgive AHFOD as a bad mistake, but here they've gone and made an album that would somehow be worse than AHFOD if it didn't have Coloratura. This seriously sounds like an album for preteens or something. Why does Chris need to sound like Alvin the Chipmunk on Biutyful? Why? Does he have anyone in his professional life who can tell him no? It's just a shame they still seem so desperate for pop relevance after all these years. I don't expect them to make Parachutes or AROBTTH again, nor do I mind them trying new things. But there really is no excuse for them to churn out the most generic, uninspired, corporate pop trash imaginable. That's called regression, not "change."

If I recall correctly, Taylor is a pretty big is fan of Coldplay. They do sound very similar. However, I agree that a big deal shouldn't be made of it.

Fix You, Violet Hill and Only Superstition are my least favorites. They have a few other "meh" songs, but those three are the only songs that I genuinely dislike.

I think the new album is great! It definitely took me a couple of listens to 'get' it though.

Edit: My speakers were messed up, so that why I thought it sounded a little odd. I think it sounds great now.

VLV is OK, but it doesn't touch AROBTTH and X&Y. The main thing I don't like about VLV is the songs sound a little overproduced and impersonal. The songs just don't 'hit' me like their older music does.

I wouldn't say it's the most overrated, but pretty close. Their most overrated song, imo, is Square One.

My brother hates Coldplay, and I'm not sure if my Mom or Dad even know who they are. :lol:

Viva la Vida is good, but it isn't great like AROBTTH and X&Y. Viva has some great songs, like CoL, 42, Yes, LIJ, and SS. However LIT, Lost!, Viva la Vida, Violet Hill, DAAHF, and both of the hidden tracks pretty much fail. Especially DAAHF...... that song is a lazy mess. Overall, VLV just barely beats Parachutes as my 3rd favorite.

9.5 I Ran Away

They have mentioned Pink Floyd in a few interviews. I can hear some similarities in their music. Not the trippy, psychedelic sound in Floyd's earlier music, but more of their DSOTM - The Wall era sound.

For me, Radiohead and Coldplay > U2. I like Coldplay the most, even though Radiohead is the best of the 3. I've always thought U2's music sounds the same, and Bono is one of the most annoying human beings alive. I don't care what they did for rock, how many awards they have won, or anything else. I just don't like them, plain and simple. U2 fans flame my band(s) all the time, so I'll return the favor.

Edit: Nevermind, I just wasn't in a 'Viva la Vida mood' when I made this post.

The first song I heard was Clocks, but I didn't really care for them until I heard Square One.
