  5. There are only a few Coldplay songs I really can't stand, and they're mostly ones that everyone else likes (Shiver, Fix You, etc.). X&Y (the album) was totally disorganized, but I can't really not like it since it has several of my favorites: White Shadows, A Message, Swallowed in the Sea, Twisted Logic...wait, why don't you like that one?! :P Reign of Love isn't bad, just incomprehensible...though since one of the few clear lines is "Oh how I wish I'd spoken up," that may be intentional. Chinese Sleep Chant is just kind of uninteresting; it doesn't really have lyrics ("Sleep, Sleep [something], Sleep...") and most of the music is kinda washed out with noise. But it's not like it sounds really awful. I'd sure rather listen to that than Shiver. :P

  8. 45 Yellow - 49 Trouble + Yes...this looks endless. (No. I can't STAND that song.)
  9. What?! Dark chocolate's the best kind! Unless you don't have any water nearby. :P
  10. Zoomed in, it looks a lot like the Sennheiser logo. One of theirs, maybe?
  11. Randomly flying back to the very beginning...this doesn't seem like much to worry about. Their latest album wasn't that popular (and for good reasons, from what I've heard of it), so this next one isn't likely to upend Coldplay's even if it somehow turns out better. Besides, didn't someone say Eno's favorite song on Viva La Vida was Chinese Sleep Chant? If nothing else, I can be sure I won't think much of this supposedly amazing new U2 song. And since when does all good music have to come from Coldplay? They're just the most reliable. :P

  13. Well uh...most snakes aren't poisonous, so the one that bit him probably wasn't. Even a really nutty snake handler would go to the hospital if a poisonous snake bit him...otherwise, he'd be a dead snake handler. And I don't mean he would handle dead snakes.
  14. No need for the allcaps...but you're right, I noticed it too; Chris's voice is a bit too high. As you said, they sped it up to make it match better. And anyway, only the first 3 notes in each verse are similar; the rest is completely different. Just another loser trying to rip them off for attention. (Not necessarily the artist's fault, of course; but whoever made this video has quite the inferiority complex.)

The Bible says you should believe in God because you have nothing to lose by believing, and possibly everything to gain? I dunno...that seems unlikely, since that argument suggests God might not exist. But if that is in the Bible, Pascal was quite a hack. :P I know that isn't why you believe in God, but this argument isn't a good reason to, and it's not likely to convince any atheists. It'll just make them spew a rant similar to mine. ;) There isn't just one cause of war. Some, but certainly not all, wars were based on religion; some of these are still going on (Iraq anyone?). War happens for many reasons--really too many reasons--the greatest of which being plain old stupidity (WW1, and WW2 that followed it, and the Cold War started over atomic bombs made for WW2, all started with some arbitrary alliances and a random elite guy getting shot). Religions do cause wars, but so do governments, rich jerks, and sometimes even necessity.
  18. Well, it's always good to waste time doing something helpful. :P That thing Chuck suggested is pretty much what I did in Audacity; it has a "noise removal" tool, so I used a bit from the beginning that should have been silent as the noise, which just had whatever ugly sound the microphone was making. You have to set the sensitivity pretty low, though, or it removes a lot of things besides the noise and messes up the song. Anyway...good luck with it; it's got a better chance than you think! :D
  19. Well, it's not exactly "clean"...but it doesn't have the background hiss (which is probably the microphone, since it seems to get louder as the music gets louder...) and I also cut off the funny clicks at the beginning and end. Hopefully the rest sounds about the same, because my first try came out pretty awful. :P (The file came out a bit bigger for some reason...that program must not do very good compression. :\) And it's not like this took hours to do...I may not be an expert sound editor, but I'm still a computer nerd. ;) I'll PM you the sendspace link, in case it actually came out awful and I can't tell, or something. :P
  20. Huh...I wish I'd tried this one the first time I saw it, because now I'm just joining the army of praisers. :P It's very good, and should work well for the contest, too, because it does sound a lot like Coldplay; it reminds me of "The Scientist" (one of my favorites :D). And your voice isn't even slightly annoying (since I find 99% of all singers intolerable, you should interpret that as something like "your voice is amazing" ;)). My only complaint is a geeky one: there must be a background noise, or a problem with your microphone, or something...because this song has the freakiest waveform I've ever seen (whole sections of the song are shifted way down below the center, and there's a lot of noise when it should be silent), and I think that's why it's making my cheap headphones pop and crackle. :P You might want to use better equipment for the final recording. Edit: After a little too much inexperienced fiddling in Audacity, I think I got rid of the junk background noise without completely ruining the song; I can email it to you or post it somewhere if you want (looks like forum and PM attachments aren't working...). It sounds a little better and doesn't make so many annoying popping sounds.

Sorry, but I have to go after this, because people use this argument (originally called "Pascal's Wager") all the time, and it's really pretty flawed because it assumes a lot of things we don't actually know. Main thing is, how do you know God, if he exists, wants you to worship him? Maybe he thinks religion is wasteful, and prayer annoying. Or maybe not. But we don't actually know, so believing in God isn't really any more likely to turn out well for you than not believing in him. And anyway, believing in him just because you might be rewarded seems kinda selfish. Ok, no more ranting. As for myself...as you can probably tell, I'm not religious at all; but I don't claim to be an atheist, because they generally firmly believe God does not exist. In my opinion, saying there is definitely no God is just as silly as saying there definitely is. There's no evidence supporting either claim, so I don't see much point in subscribing to one and ridiculing the other. And anyway, a true "atheist" would have to stop believing that logic and evidence work--evidence can't prove that evidence itself works, and logic is just how we analyze evidence--so I wouldn't even want to be one. No religion, but no science either? That's like not even caring how the world works. People who say they're atheists usually do think logic and evidence work, of course, but they're reluctant to admit that they can't actually prove it. ...I'd better stop now, this is getting long, confusing, and arrogant-sounding.
  22. Well, they have the Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything in their latest album (which must have taken some deep thought to come up with), so of course they're big; almost as big as space. But they're mostly harmless. :D
  23. Fidel Castro, (now former) president of Cuba. Even I knew that. :P
  24. Wow, they called 2 different people Guy...and I thought this was something only superfans would notice. :laugh3: An even better part is when they're doing "In My Place" and Chris sings "If you go, if you go, and let us play on the Today show." (By the way, my screen name has nothing to do with Guy...that's just a weird coincidence. :P)
  25. :dozey: "<3333"? That looks even less heart-like than "<3". But Keane is indeed great. :P I doubt I can think of 5, but let's see... Coldplay  Keane :D No More Kings :karate: Er...Travis? Pink Floyd? I'm too picky. And I'm using too many emoticons.
