The BRITs 2009 Thread
Is it: A) Because they danced around in their underwear last night? B) Because they performed right before the phone numbers were announced? C) Because Cheryl is an ITV employee? D) All of the above?

Coldplay are now a pop band
If they are, is that a bad thing?

The BRITs 2009 Thread
Maybe they gave Duffy loads to make up for last year - they picked Adele ahead of her for the critics choice awards and Duffy went on to get to number one first and sell shed-loads of records. I think the press in particular don't know what to make of Coldplay sometimes because they're not your typical rock stars. They don't get drunk/do/drugs/have a different girlfriend every week. They don't get pulled in to media fights with other bands... in other words they don't provide good copy for the journalists. So many of my friends seem to admire Liam Gallagher, because apparently he's a normal guy - all that effing & blinding, making fun of people and generally behaving like a yob are supposedly good qualities...

The BRITs 2009 Thread
Yeah, I figured that's what you meant, but it's interesting maybe that all my Northern friends hate them and I'm a bit different to them by being from the South and realising that Coldplay are awesome :D

The BRITs 2009 Thread
Could be the North/South divide... You're right that I live in Liverpool, but I myself am a Southerner who moved here. ONe of my friends HATES them with a passion and when I asked her, she went off on one, and one of her main reasons were that they are middle class...

The BRITs 2009 Thread
I'm in my early 30's and most of my friends hate Coldplay. One commented that he was really surprised when Violet Hill came out 'cos he liked it, and in his words "I always though Coldplay were a little bit gay"

The BRITs 2009 Thread
Honestly, I really liked them - way better than The Osbornes last year! And they were in keeping with the whole tone that The Brits has had for a long while now. Ideally, I'd like to see Russell Brand back, but that was never going to happen this year after "Sachsgate"

Ooh, how do I do that? Type very slowly and use short words please... I am quite stupid :embarassed:

The BRITs 2009 Thread
I've never really thought about how it comes across to others - I grew up watching The Brits and it's had the same kind of tone for a long time now. Maybe that helps explain Chris's comments about us not being that good at celebrating... our Awards don't have the same "formal" feel as The Grammys...

:laugh3: Ah, who needs Brit awards to smile about when you've got pix of Guy Berryman and cheeky Berrygirls to share them with

The BRITs 2009 Thread
Yeah, but remember when the album came out, Chris said they took the vocal off LIT i because people said it was "an obvious single" - they never wanted to make a big deal of it. I think they decide the 10 nominations for Best single on sales and then let the public vote from there... so LITii definately won't make the shortlist next year

The BRITs 2009 Thread
I think the Brits is suffering from a bit of Coldplay fatigue - there had to come a time when they didn't win, I just thought it would have been with X & Y Surprised Duffy did as well, I envisaged a few shocks but didn't think she'd pick up three out of her four I imagine Coldplay came 2nd in Best Song... I don't really think it's fair that they have a live vote on the night and don't let all the acts perform - it's like two acts got to promote their song and the other three didn't. Interesting that the first time ITV announced the phone numbers was right after Girls Aloud did that stunning performance in their underwear... and technically Cheryl Cole is an ITV employee. Coincidence, right..?

Law of averages says their luck has to run out eventually - they've been unbeatable at the Brits so far. Obviously, I hope I'm wrong, but I think it'll be a night full of surprises...
