what's all this stuff about a doorbell? i keep hearing about all this negative stuff that people have supposedly said directly to the band or done, but i've not heard anyone say something specific?

Oh no I agree with you there. I didn't mean it will actually have influences - it will have Coldplay influences. Which is to say - mostly imaginary if they're anything outside Anglo-American pop/rock. I just meant Coldplay might be playing the Germany shows because of how they've been "influenced" by the movement.

If Hurts like Heaven is about sex, than perhaps it'll be alright. But otherwise, I'm a bit confused because I thought heaven was supposed to be without hurting? Hmmmmmmmmmm :thinking:

I don't think this is that crazy of an idea. While I expect the band might not do something like Prospekts in terms of a release, I would expect them to release subsequent material after LP5 a lot quicker than they've ever done. While Chris keeps talking about getting old, I think it's actually quite realistic to say that once they hit 40 they probably won't be quite the same. It could be a good thing, but I feel like they'll put some pressure on themselves to either do a few EPs or LP6 quickly

OH SHIT! I never even thought of "birds" being used in that way. In that case...I'd be surprised and excited. Coldplay don't give people the middle finger do they?!

:laugh3: Yeah, I think they're just a bit much for Coldplay. I mean, I'm a guy and I love Coldplay, but these titles seem way too serious (in the wrong way) and (in regards to Up With the Birds) silly. I personally never felt any of the titles for Viva sounded dumb when I heard them. I found them intriguingly vague. I feel like the music that would accompany these songs would have to fit the titles perfectly. There's no room for Up With the Birds to be a serious piece of rock jamming. And Every Teardrop is a Waterfall would just have to be a tear jerker. I think one thing you can say about Coldplay titles, aside from Fix You and Everything's Not Lost, is that they are always detached enough from the song to sound cool by themselves - The Scientist, Viva la Vida, Clocks, Life In Technicolor, Violet Hill - they have their own auras. I mean, consider that people on Coldplaying are still hoping to hear Famous Old Painters simply on the fact that it has the name it does. But I'd be perfectly happy to eat my words if the songs turned out to be awesome. :)

LOL - I only just realized what everyone has been saying about Robert Pattinson has been from a Chris quote! :lol: If the band says they're down to 15 songs, do we really think it's going to take until next fall to get them to us? I mean, I'm not ignorant to the process of finding the right version of a song, mixing, recording, producing, blah blah (maybe a little ignorant to specifics but understand the time it takes...), but could that really take so long? I mean they've already booked something for June??? Isn't that an indicator? I know they've done gigs and shows while recording but I can't imagine they show up to that and just play the same old songs. I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS...probably not the first though... The album has to do with this anti-Nazi movement in Germany and these shows they've got are in Germany...doesn't that sound like a kick off to you? I know everyone says what Phil told them, but I don't see why he'd have to necessarily tell the truth. It'd be a good lie anyway!

I doubt Eno busies himself with the titles of Coldplay songs. While he has become essentially an unnamed member of U2 when he produces their albums, I think he's much more of a guiding presence with Coldplay. I'm a fan who likes his guiding presence, but I really doubt he's had much to do with those...those...atrocious song titles. Someone mentioned in another thread that "Everything's Not Lost" is a particularly syrupy title and that these, comparatively, weren't that bad. However, I think there's a difference with a title like ENL where you're making a statement anyone would make and title like Hurts like Heaven or Every Teardrop is a Waterfall - dramatic similes that would never be uttered. I don't know - me hopes it was Chris pulling the persons leg. They do say they sometimes try to throw people off...:confused:

No! You're not! I am just the same. However, I think there are certain studio things they can do to make it seem "raw and groupy" like material from the Viva era. Adding studio sounds and just generally being less tight with certain production I think can give it a rawer feel. This as opposed to X & Y, which I think was very tightly produced. But you're definitely not the only one who feels as you do!

I think whatever LP5 is, it's going to be the album that either elevates them to all-time greats status or keeps that at just a great band for a period of time. They've already proven their great, but I think this will be the one that either turns around the frowns of everyone whose shit on them or it'll be more of the same. As Coldplay fans, I'm not sure it matters to anyone here what the outside thinks. I could care less. I loved VLV but part of me isn't sure where Coldplay go from there. I don't see them reverting to Parachutes style. I don't see them going back at all to be honest. I don't think they should at this stage of their career. I don't want to think they've come full circle. Their circle should be huge! The fact that they've brought back so much of VLV producing crew is, to me, a great thing. I think that will keep them trying new things. Sometimes new doesn't always work, but Coldplay is that rare band that I think can find someway to balance artistic intent and genuine songwriting skill. I really want this album to be the album where the guys really just blow people away. Where they put a sock in all the mouths of people who've been less than kind in the past. Who knows how it will sound. I'm sure it'll sound like Coldplay.

Just so everyone knows, I was one of the fans who expressed disappointment. BUT I never NEVER emailed the band or went up to them to express that. Perhaps, there are some people who did. I do think it's fair for some people, including myself, to have been disappointed. But in retrospect, I now feel I went in with too high hopes. This was my fault. Having had a bad couple of months, I wanted the night to be spectacular. I don't feel like a jerk saying it wasn't for me. But my expectations weren't fair to the band. They did a really cool thing letting fans be in a video. And I'm really so happy I could be apart of it. I do think some people shouldn't be so antagonizing though when people express disappointment. I don't think that was very fair of the few people who did it. Everyone is a different fan and I felt really bad about what everyone was saying.

That's pretty great of them to do. Coldplay really are great people. It was a night to remember for sure and I'll always be able to say I was in a Coldplay video.

honestly, the negativity isn't really rampant folks. and i feel like anyone whose said anything negative (like myself) has only had to keep talking because people keep ostracizing them. i never said it wasn't a good night, which could be lost in my having to explain and defend why i was disappointed. if coldplay hq doesn't want to do something in the future because a few people wished they had gotten what they'd been told (not even something more) than they wouldn't very well be much like coldplay hq.

I don't really get why I'm being told to stfu. :\ I realize a lot of people, now knowing it was a video shoot, would have given an arm and a leg to be there. But I don't happen to be like you in that respect. I am an adult. There's nothing childish about what I'm saying. Will people understand that I wasn't saying I thought we'd meet the band. I meant meet Phil, Matt and Miller. As was promised. And all this stuff about, "you made the decision" is true. I did make the decision. But it was a decision informed by details that turned out to be untrue. As the director said, "we tricked you". Some people were happy with the change. I wasn't. That's all. Furthermore, I didn't bring this up really to rehash all that. I brought it up because I feel it was presumed this video night would be more fun, but there are different Coldplay fans out there and that wasn't a fair presumption of anyone to make. I feel like a used fan. Coldplay never made me feel that way until last night. Honestly, are there not even a few people who wouldn't want to be in a music video?

SATURDAY: Everyone, just want to apologize for being negative with everything. I was disappointed to not do the Q&A but what I did get to be apart of was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I had been having a couple of bad months and I think I sort of put a lot of expectation into the night. It wasn't necessarily what I'd hoped for, but in the circumstances I chose not to look at the countless positives. I really do apologize for that. It was different than what I'd expected, but if I'd known going in I'd still have wanted to do it all the same. I feel quite bad if this has gotten back to the band. They let 100 of their fans be apart of a video. How many bands would do something so cool. I don't think I should have offended anyone with what I said, as all I was expressing was disappointment, but if I did I apologize. I was really lucky to be apart of the video and I can't wait to see the results this Wednesday.

Haha I didn't mean a full spread. I don't know if you were there, but it was biscuits and some sandwiches. I only expected more cause we had to be there at 5. It wasn't that I expected something special. It's just...I didn't know I should have eaten. That's certainly not even worthy mentioning in the scheme of my other complaints, but it's just true. And we were told we'd meet Phil, Matt and...someone else. I forget the other. But Phil and Matt could have told us some really cool stuff. THAT IS WHAT I THOUGHT I SIGNED UP FOR. Why you might ask? Cause that's what I was told. If I was supposed to read "a few surprises" as "we won't do anything we've told you at all but the boat part", it would be different. Meet and greet meant with Phil and Matt, not the band - at least not for me. I really do feel the band dropped the ball on this one. I think, even though we are fans, to ask everyone to drop their lives for this without giving us even a clue of what it would be was really presumptuous.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who hates these song titles. I really hope Chris is joking. "Up With The Birds"? Are you fucking kidding me? That sounds like a children's song from the fifties. They can be awesome musically...but the names just can't be those. I really hope Chris was taking the piss.

I do like what he has to say about Jonny coming out of a cocoon though. RISKS ARE AWESOME! And groupy is also really good - who knows what it means though. I feel like The Goldrush was a groupy song - if so I approve!

I'm quite certain during the 60 minutes show that Famous Old Painters was still on the board for songs they had. Perhaps that was recorded before they released Prospekts, but if not I think the song still has a life - even if under a different title.

Not sure how I feel about those song titles actually. I really liked how the named songs in Viva, but those seem very...old school schmaltz. i feel like they're something a 70's prog rock band would come up with. that could be a very good thing. obviously, names don't necessarily have anything to do with how good a song is. they just seem very serious!
