FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
I'm sorry to be continuing this, but it's really bothering me. You have to understand that when you say someone's complaints aren't worthy, that it is antagonizing. It is delegitimizing. In fact it very well is the definition of the word. Maybe you haven't meant to come off this way. But your words are. Obviously, we're all welcome to our own opinions. It's another thing to call people's complaints "unworthy". You're telling us we should feel differently. That's not respecting our feelings.

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
You weren't even there??? What more do I have to say. I really did expect anyone who wasn't there to not understand. You can't "disagree" with opinions. You can have your own. You can't delegitimize someone else's though. Why are you bothering telling us what we experienced was wrong? We went to it didn't we? I think we would know how we feel. You can't exactly inform us how we're supposed to feel. I don't think anyone who has expressed a negative opinion has said anyone who felt positively is wrong. I'm glad Tonsu said what he did so people would realize I wasn't the only one disappointed. It's easy for you to say all this now knowing what happened. But we all went not knowing what would happen or, actually, went after being told it would be something it turned out not to be. If I had known it was a video shoot I might have turned up on Friday, but not tonight. I didn't know what it was. I feel just the same as Tonsu, it didn't mean anything to me to be in a long shot of a video. It's not what I came for. I came for a meet and greet. Also, I'm glad someone said something about the food. Because honestly, it was coffee, tea, biscuits and some sandwiches. Coldplay didn't need to offer us fine dining (even the bar thing didn't have to be paid for), but they could have made it special. This is why I said I felt used. Coldplay (or if you want to say their management) didn't make the night special. And that honestly surprised me. Coldplay have led me to expect more. That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. I'm glad for anyone who enjoyed their time. It's also great if you felt you would. I don't disagree with you that that would be your reaction. Mine is what it is. EDIT: I shouldn't say I didn't expect people to understand. I meant that it would be harder to put yourself in our place. Obviously, some people have been kind enough to be understanding of everyone's reactions. Be them positive or negative.

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
I never said I felt other people couldn't say they had a great time. I'm not disagreeing with anyone. I'm saying people shouldn't call me ungrateful. I don't think that constitutes them disagreeing with me. That's calling me something... Either way, I don't really feel like being this person anymore. Coldplay are my favorite band after all and I'm in a video of theirs. I'm one of a hundred fans who can say that. That's pretty fucking cool. I just hope I don't look stupid in the video! :embarrassed:

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
lol really though, i've got nothing against the band with all of this. i guess coldplay just do things that make me feel warm and tonight it just didn't feel that way. i'm sure i'll feel different about it all in time. it's an incredibly cool thing. but the warmth tonight came from fellow coldplayers and not the band. i mean...we met debs i think. but that wasn't even obvious. we were on a boat with a film crew. the whole confusion about what we could and couldn't say started because they hadn't even known the band did their press release on the site last night. not as though they should. it's not their job to know. i don't know, most people will probably just be annoyed at me. this will last longer than meeting the band, yes. i'll get to say i was in a coldplay video. but, if only at this moment, that will mean more to people hearing it than it will to me. maybe i'll thaw off and in the morning change my tune. hope people won't roast me then if i do.

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
i have to say, i don't really appreciate being called ungrateful. it's not like i roasted the band for anything. i said i felt shortchanged. i'm sorry if i didn't have as good a time as everyone else. i didn't even need the band to come to have a good time. my expectations weren't by any means outrageous. i'm just a different type of fan than a lot of people here. coldplay are the top 25 of my itunes list, so it's nothing to do with how much i love their music. i'm just not devoted in that personal way. i mean...we had to sign contracts and everything. this wasn't like we just showed up and had a nice old time. i knew we were being misled, but if i knew the direction i wouldn't have gone. some people will be annoyed i suppose at my saying this, but at this moment it's thanksgiving and i've been away from home for months. the best part of the night was meeting fellow coldplay fans and singing and feeling apart of something, but i think i might have been happier eating turkey with my friends. i love coldplay. they're my favorite band. i think the guys are great guys. this refrain can be seen through hundreds of posts on this forum. it's certainly cool what happened, but i didnt feel the warmth i needed today.

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
haha - i've ordered food so i suppose i'll just write now my impressions empty stomach or not. there were sandwiches but i hadn't realized really. i think i also mistook my hunger to be feeling sick. either way, i guess all in all that what we got to do was cool. i know they said we can say this, so we were in Coldplay's video for Christmas Lights. I suppose I might leave out what we did just so that it's a surprise, but I'm sure someone else will say. Either way, what we did involved standing outside in the cold for a long period of time while repeating ourselves quite often. Of course, one would expect as much in a video shoot. That said, I'm not sure if I don't feel a bit used after all this. I realize the band couldn't tell us what we were going to be doing, but if I had known I doubt I would have come. This is Thanksgiving for Americans, and my school was doing something for students abroad - a nice dinner and everything at some place in London. In comparison to what I was doing on the boat, I've got to say that'd be what I'd have preferred. Certainly, I had some built up expectations. But I honestly think those were even relatively small. For what we had to do, I honestly don't believe Coldplay did us a favor. I feel we did them one, which is why I'm surprised all we got out of it is to be "immortalized in a Coldplay video forever". I think this might sound bad to anyone who wasn't there, but I don't think I was the only disappointed party there. And to be honest, I didn't even have to go to that much trouble to be there. My expenses were a forty minute train ride there and back. Some people did a lot more than me to be there. Even though it was really cool to meet other fans and enjoy that moment together, I feel we sort of got shortchanged. I don't feel the band meant to do that, but I think with what they asked of people, there should have been a greater disclosure of what would take place during the night. Not a full disclosure, but at least something that said, "you'll be outside in the cold for a long time and we'll wave to you". Because frankly, I feel that's all it was. I'm tall, so maybe I'll glimpse myself in this video. But a lot of people won't be seen...but I can't speak for them. I'm eager to see what everyone else though. Perhaps, I'll feel better about it all upon seeing the video and having a fuller stomach. I'm really sorry if this disappoints anyone. I'm really not a negative person, so I'm kind of surprised at how I'm feeling about all this.

well, i actually sort of want to take a few minutes to collect my thoughts more, because at the moment they're not very positive and i'm not sure if that has to do with an empty stomach or my full feelings...sorry!

New Coldplay Christmas Song 2010! Christmas Lights // behind-the-scenes footage in first post (parts
I'm not sure I agree with this. I figured this Christmas Lights song would be a bit of a one-off for fans and such - marking the holidays. I sort of expect pretty straightforward Coldplay on a song like this. That's still a wonderful thing, but I don't expect this to be like Violet Hill. It'd be awesome if it was though!

New Coldplay Christmas Song 2010! Christmas Lights // behind-the-scenes footage in first post (parts
this is incredible news. my earlier post was just the initial euphoric reaction. ITS SO SOON. and someone stated above about phil saying they would take sometime after the album releases before touring. i know the band said that at one point too. if they're already booking things for june it could either mean they've scrapped their plan (would be something they would do) or the release will be earlier than the consensus has been on here. i don't expect january, but now february or march doesn't seem so unlikely. And if they were not just on the boat tomorrow but they ACTUALLY PLAYED music, i'd probably break my face from smiling (i'm a smiler not much for screaming...)

Coldplay Hibernation?
i think when i was younger i would have been more conscious of if i'd been in a coldplay hibernation than i am now - i listen to a lot more music so it's hard to notice when i've not listened to the band in a while. that said, i've definitely been consistently listening to them since VLV was released. after X&Y i sort of said goodbye for a year or so, but VLV has kept me interested. i suppose Prospekt's also came out and that's been the source of some favorites. it would have been very hard for coldplay to leave my rotation after VLV though, because so many of the songs echoed things going on in my life.

Coldplay to play German ROCK IM PARK / ROCK AM RING festival in 2011 // LP5 before June?
for those hoping for a christmas single, although i'd say it's unusual for bands to release a single very long before the album, perhaps coldplay will emulate what a lot of bands/artists have been doing lately and release a single or two before the album release. brandon flowers released a single for his LP like three months before the album. i personally think that's a bit crazy and forces a feeling of disconnection. but it'd be great to hear new stuff! i know some will say they already did that with violet hill and then viva, but coldplay have always maintained that violet hill was never technically a single. i suppose i say this all because i probably want new music more than i want to believe that it'll be another five months. but i suppose it's exciting either way. we've got firm plans!

Coldplay to play German ROCK IM PARK / ROCK AM RING festival in 2011 // LP5 before June?
oh wow. this is crazy! so everyone's talking album between march and may. but the thing is, if they put out an album even at the latest may, they'll probably put the single out at least like...three weeks before right? i don't remember when viva la vida was released as a single, but i've got to feel like they'd have something out quite a long ways before the actual album. all the pre-album interviews and buzz dictate that having to be the case. this is really really really great news!!! it means at the very least that the band are happy enough with what they've gotten written that they feel they can start making serious commitments. this also means i'm going to be on this site a lot more again!

Wedding Bells "the beginning of a story kind of thing"
Honestly, there are few songs out there where I think reading the lyrics and wondering about them would mean looking for secret meanings. Most are too straightforward for that. There are lots of ways to engage in music. Each has there merits, but I'd think anyone taking the time to examine a song would be the last ones to call stupid. :dozey:

BOAT TRIP: FIND/NEED A PARTNER THREAD
i will have a spare ticket that i wouldn't mind giving anyone. i don't really want to play who deserves the ticket, so anyone who pm's me first will be the one i can give mine too. i won't be staying anywhere as i'm studying not far from london, so being my guest would be in name only. i just say this so no one feels like they have to woo me with anything. i am quite worried actually that i won't be able to get the train back to where my school is, as the trains stop right around 11:30. so...that's a bit terrifying. anyone know anywhere in london that won't be closed and won't be seedy at that time of night? regardless...just pm me and the person who has first will get the ticket. sorry if my not saying this earlier has inconvenienced anyone!

FESTIVE (OFFICIAL) BOAT TRIP IN LONDON @ 5PM ON 25 NOV, 2010
As I'm abroad in London I applied for this. I never win anything though so I'm not too hopeful. It'll be cool just to hear back from anyone who was there what it was like. Gosh, I feel like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory here wondering just how amazing it might be. Of course, it's not Coldplay's factory (The Bakery and Beehive are of course) but it's still a golden ticket to an awesome night. Hopefully, one way or another there will be some cool stuff to learn from it.

Coldplay 'better than The Beatles' says Kanye West
Double Thanks! As a Liverpool fan I completely agree. The situation here is no different. I like Coldplay more than The Beatles. Nevertheless, with only the slightest musical knowhow, I know The Beatles are better.

Coldplay 'better than The Beatles' says Kanye West
the idea of comparing the first real band with anyone who follows is honestly pointless. people always do this - so an so is better than the beatles. well the thing is, the beatles made music like this first. and the beatles, to this day, were more experimental than i see coldplay ever being. if you want to compare pure songwriting ability, you'd have to compare mccartney to chris, and that to me is still the same thing - the beatles did it first. obviously, i think coldplay are very different from the beatles, but they evolved from them just as almost any other modern band has. i wish some would also consider how prolific the beatles were in their short time together. coldplay have been around about as long as the beatles and they've made 4 LPs. the more real comparison for a band like coldplay would be U2 - NOT MUSICALLY CRAZY U2 HATERS - just in terms of impact and general quality. and honestly, i don't see coldplay being remembered as better than u2. they've got to do some serious work to be in that league of remembrance. UNDERSTAND, i like coldplay more than u2, there's nothing biased about my statements. <-- I only say these things because there are some people on this thread who flip out at comparisons. as for a coldplay/kanye ALBUM collaboration...please no. if coldplay actually want to be remembered, they'd be best not to do something like that. fortunately, i don't see them doing anything like that. a track here or there is the nice sort of throwaway to show they're open minded without throwing away their musical credibility.

Coldplay lined up to play at American Music Awards? (21-Nov-2010)
Wow, that makes complete sense actually. Good thinking!
