How deep is your love?
I would say my love runs deeper than most Coldplay fans, but I would hardly call it obsessed or crazy. I keep up on everything the band is doing (I'm on here aren't I?) and I love 3 of their albums, but I guess that says a bit. I don't worhship the ground they walk on, although some friends have claimed as much. It's all a matter of comparison. On this site, I would say I probably come off as a pretty normal fan. But the fact that I'm on this site means that I come off as a pretty intense fan to anyone else. I can't explain the amount of times I've begun saying, "You know, Chris Martin is so hilarious," about to insert a quote when I realize my family and friends just don't care. But I do love Coldplay. They're my favorite band. My first favorite band. I've known about them longer than any music I listen to now. Songs have made me cry and jump for joy. They mean a lot to me. They'll probably always be my favorite band, and the only band where I legitimately admired the members (U2 would fall under a sort of - Bono and the world have a love hate relationship). So yeah, I love Coldplay.

What's the song Politik about?
holy shit! this completely changes my perspective on this song. i had always had a different interpretation. while this certainly raises the chris cred in my mind (as if it weren't high enough), i sort of liked how i thought about it. i hope that's not weird as it's now come to light (to me at least) that song is about 9/11. i don't know, i guess there are so many serious serious serious songs that i listen to about that and about the state of the world, and this song never was that for me. so i'm going to keep my original reading. :\

X&Y>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Viva La Vida
X & Y is the one Coldplay album that could disappear and I wouldn't mind tooooo much. I mean, I'd definitely miss 3 or 4 songs but the rest I never liked after the initial "WOOO-HOOOO NEW ALBUM!!!" feeling wore off. VLV is a classic in my mind. Every track serves a function and for a good year and a half after it's release I still would listen to it all the way through. Life in Technicolor to The Escapist. In the sense that I feel every track on Viva (minus, in my mind, reign of love) can be great, I can't say I've felt that about any other Coldplay album. I mean, not even any album by anyone really. But AROBTTH is also a classic in my mind, as is Parachutes, even if I feel some tracks are pretty weak. Songs 1-5 I think AROBTTH takes the cake against even some of the greatest albums. But for me, Viva just comes home after Chinese Sleep Chant. VLV to Violet Hill to Strawberry Swing to DAAHF to the fade out of the Escapist. Great stuff. But we all love Coldplay - that's why we're here. It's good to have these moments to just reminisce about why we love them and what we love about them. But no one really needs to fight about it (not that anyone is). Everyone loves music for different reasons, and I have some intellectual ones for certain music, but Coldplay has always been about the emotion for me. You can't fight about how something makes you feel inside. It's just how you feel. So I'm sure everyone has a perfect reason for why they love what they do. It's nice to hear about it though.

Coldplay say YES! to Glee
I watch Glee with my girlfriend because she likes it, and I think the humor can be pretty great, but I don't have really care that much about this. I mean...I'm a little disappointed. I won't care if it's any song on X & Y or a few that are on Viva la Vida, because some of the songs are pretty...generic. That said, Coldplay did an iTunes commercial. I know lots of people have, but that's...um...ahem...A COMMERCIAL!!! Frankly, I don't think Coldplay are doing anything that bad. This is just going to open up a lot of young people to good music. They might not appreciate organic or well made real music now, and they may need the gloss of Glee, but someday they'll come around as we all do. Sometimes the first time you find out about a great song is through an above average cover of the original song. Then you find the first version and fall in love. Who knows really. I just hope they don't let them use The Scientist. Because that would be personally devastating. I'm hoping it's something like Fix You...:smug:

Ultimate-Guitar titles Coldplay's LP5 as "The Beehive"
certainly, the album title will not be the beehive.

Small Reminders/Updates & The Coldplay Messenger (feat. Roadie #42!)
I think this is really excellent stuff and the blog was certainly amazing, but I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. The way the blog went, I did not get the impression that we'll have an album any time soon. If everything they said before the Latin American tour is thrown out the window, then doesn't it follow that all the "around Christmas" thoughts are thrown out too? I JUST REALLY WANT MORE MUSIC! Maybe I'm the only one who thought this...? :\

Vote Chris Martin! for best... NME Greatest Lyricists
yeah...i don't think i'd be able to honestly put chris at the top. coldplay is my favorite band and i love chris's lyrics, but i don't think they are necessarily great. i think they could be though! chris has more time! :)

Coldplay's Chris Martian (The Sun with a tiny bit more on the intergalactic recording sessions)
I'm really not too worried that this could be X & Y part 2 (to me....that would be very worrying), because all the stuff the band has said thus far. A solar system theme or a universe theme or a space theme doesn't have to mean big. Maybe it could be drawn back to how small we all are in comparison to this. I mean...I'm not sure how something like this would work. But I'm praying this is, in no way, another X & Y.

Coldplay's Future Sound?
THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS!!! Seriously, I haven't said anything, but I feel like too many people aren't willing to let go. Coldplay shouldn't make the same album three times. Bands like The Fray can do that. I'm looking forward to anything they put out and I'm sure that what we get will be different than VLV.

Did they miss an opportunity with the Viva videos?
I agree wholeheartedly that the band missed an opportunity with the Viva la Vida era videos. I rate LIT2 as one of the best music videos I've ever seen and I appreciated their efforts with Strawberry Swing, although I too had expected something different and hoped for something different. I'm not sure about doing too much with war, because I think the whole revolution that VLV was about was a personal one. The song Viva la Vida always seemed to be about dealing with fame. If there was a video, I would have hoped it could have been seen in a storyteller way like how the lyrics go. If not that, I would have liked something along the lines of what they did with the alternative video. The King in a modern world. As for the other songs and singles, I generally felt the band could have done more. The reason I first connected with Coldplay was The Scientist video, but since then I haven't seen the same imagination (God Put a Smile on Your Face was also an excellent video). I like that LIT2 and Strawberry Swing may have signaled a new phase in their videos and I hope it continues.

Signing out from this forum and this band... forever
That's a bit disappointing as you were a big fan. I guess I'm sort of surprised at your indignation about lots of teenage girl fans. I mean, I'm a straight guy, but I always recognized that Coldplay would attract the interest of teenage girls. They write love songs for pete's sake! Regardless, I see your point about the live show. But Coldplay have moved in different directions. It's surprising to me how small people's musical interests are, because if you read any review the reviewer would say nothing about Coldplay was new. They'd say it was all the same basic stuff. But on this forum, with the real fans, you see how different people consider the bands four albums. I consider them different, but I guess I'm surprised at the amount of people who see Parachutes as massively different then the Coldplay we see now. They've evolved but they have had no, to borrow a cringe worthy comparison U2like changes. Honestly, they've just become less acoustic. And even then, they still bring acoustic sounds in. ALSO. What I think we have to note is that Coldplay themselves have said that the new album will be MORE ACOUSTIC. Of course, this is subject to change, but from what we know they're going to be acoustic again. I don't expect nor want another Parachutes. Frankly, I've always thought it was the most overrated album musically. There are great songs on there, but only a few of them ever really touched me. But yeah, I'm sorry you won't listen to Coldplay anymore. But the thing is, it happens with everyone. We all fall in and out of love with bands. Because music is so tied to who we are at certain moments in our lives. Just like certain childrens books or movies don't feel the same years later, Coldplay won't. If you loved them when you were a teen, maybe you just aren't in the same frame of mind to appreciate them anymore. I pray this never happens to me with Coldplay. But so far their evolutions have been just my speed. And I'm eagerly anticipating whatever they put out next.

Everyone's going to HATE me for this...
WOWOWOWOWOW :guitarist: THAT WAS AWESOME! you've got some skills.

Small Reminders/Updates & The Coldplay Messenger (feat. Roadie #42!)
I sort of doubt the album cover thing. I feel like the band would do it themselves. I don't know why they'd ask Roadie 42 to do it if they wanted it to be the cover. But yeah...ahem...RANDOM! :stunned: It's odd because I have definitely taken a lot of Coldplay interview tidbits seriously (like the bit about jazz ages ago, not the new quote) but so much seems like smoke and mirrors. They're just throwing us off their tracks. This, being on the official site, seems to me like a serious thought. And it's enigmatic for a reason. So it must be the beginning of actually letting us know. Hmmm I will reserve thoughts and judgments for some time! That said, I really do hope Christmas release is going to happen! At least for some material.

Songs you want on 5th LP
I want to hear good songs. I used to get excited by song titles, but good song has never meant good title. I mean, my favorite song is The Scientist, but that doesn't even make much sense. Yeah, I know he says science in a section of the song, but the title is sort of just artfully opaque... I love the title Famous Old Painters, but if the song attached to it is bad, then keep it away from me. I would assume we won't see much of this stuff reincarnated. I think Brian Eno has had them keeping stuff fresh. All this said, if there was a song Famous Old Painters and it was an amazing song. Well...that'd be fucking awesome!!!

Viva la Vida Concert DVD
OMG. i really hope this is going to happen. it was my first concert this tour and it was such an amazing experience. it would be so awesome if coldplay could put this out. it'd be such a waste of all this great footage if they didn't use it.

The official **KEANE** thread
Thanks for posting that! This means we've had heard 3 new Keane tracks. Clear Skies, Stop for a Minute and now Looking Back. To put it mildly, I'm wondering why any of this stuff was released and they didn't wait to make an album. Because none of this music seems to suggest that Keane were feeling "very creative" or that they had lots of good stuff left after Perfect Symmetry. I've loved all of Keane's albums. I've liked pretty much every b-side they've ever put out. But, aside from the sometimes catchy Stop for a Minute (which K'Nann's presence helps a lot), this stuff seems pretty bad. I'm being generous. It seems REALLY bad. I just don't get why Keane put this stuff out. I had been really excited for this EP. To be honest, the Night Train title was AWESOME to me. The idea of a night train was just really cool. But none of the songs we've heard so far have really made me feel like it was necessary. It's like they're trying to be something new without really being new. I don't know. Please don't anyway get too annoyed at my comments. I'm a really big Keane fan and am definitely not trying to just be hard on them. I also realize we have 5 more songs that could be great. But as Clear Skies and Stop for a Minute were the radio releases, I'm sort of worried. :\ Edit: It's only 4 songs because we've already had My Shadow. Unless they do a serious remix of it.

Fantastico! Next Coldplay album will be released by Christmas, hopes Chris Martin - FULL VIDEO IN FI
i really really really hope that this album does come out this year. i hope that coldplay and that emi dont do anything to hold it up! i say coldplay because they have often delayed their releases quite a bit. the best part of all this, and the reason i'm most hopeful for a release this year, is that chris said that all the songs are good. i have never seen chris this confident. i mean...CHRIS CONFIDENT?! :shocked2: it doesn't happen often. and if that confidence pays off in a release this year I would be soooooooooooooooooooooooo happy! it'd be like i never had to take a break from coldplay for like...3 or 4 years hahaha. i havent stopped listening to vlv this whole time (i mean for any great length of time - never for more than 3 days). that has never happened with any other album! and i'm sure it has to do with prospekt's march and lrlrl keeping me busy (along with the concert i attended) but it's still pretty amazing! please please please release the album this year! and i couldn't care less if wedding bells or spanish rain (don quixote) are on it! imho neither will make the cut. BUT COME ON COLDPLAY! LP5 2010!

The Goldrush Society!

The Goldrush Society!
In The Goldrush Society you can be exactly what you want to be! So Cleeson7, you are Member 7! And The Final Track, you are our official Prospektor. I bestow you with this title and hope you hold it well. But yes let me say some more things about why The Goldrush is so amazing. It's like a song that exists out of space and time yet within such a singular space and time. The way its recorded you get this feeling that, although certainly it is complex and must have taken some time to put together, it sort of all fell together. And yet there's something about it that seems to exemplify Coldplay, if not their musical catalog, but the way they exist as a band. It's just fun. And Coldplay seem like they're usually having a pretty fun time.

When people say X&Y was "overproduced".
So so so true. Ever since I got my LRLRL CD at the concert I went to I've listened to the acoustic version many more times than I have the album version (probably 10 times more). The sincerity of the song on the album gets muffled by it's pop sound. The music video certainly didn't help either...
