I get a sense that The Seldom Seen Kid was the direction they'll continue to build on having heard this song. As for topping it? Impossible. That is one hell of a record.
  2. LOL I have to quote that.
  3. Yeah that was my thinking. I had listened to it SO much this year but it just didn't have those top album qualities.
  4. I've documented my top 10 gigs of 2010 if anyone's interested: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=259034&id=586672384&l=b180e5ff51 Nice points of discussion, Jamie. I think you were right in saying Birds of Tokyo and JBT were stinkers of 2010. 'April Uprising' in particular had great sales and their singles got plenty of radio play but critically it was snubbed. I am pretty sure it went home with no awards or recognition across this year. I don't know their music that well but there were a lot of other better quality albums (Tame Impala, Cloud Control, etc.) that received and deserved the recognition. As for Birds of Tokyo thanks to Plans they've now become the new Aussie Kings of Leon. OVERPLAYED, OVERHYPED and not that great. As for the ARIA awars, what a disgrace. I think it's time it was taken away from channel 9. I think ABC could do a better job, what with the musical hosts and guests they have for Spicks and Specks... surely! Jessica Mauboy summed up what a discrace the mainstream music is in Australia and how pathetically American it's trying to be. Other worthy 'shockers' include Richard Ashcroft storming off stage 2 songs into his Splendour set because his crowd was too small. What a dummy spit, but that guy has a massive ego. Hey, he made Urban Hymns. I'm not blaming him for having one. I think there are three peak musical periods across the year. We have the January/Feb period with the "best" summer festivals on offer (Falls/BDO/Laneway/Soundwave) so there is plenty of talent on offer. Then there's the sideshows associated with the mid-year Splendour festival so that's always a nice treat. I think I had 6 bands in two weeks over June/July. Then of course there's super december. I don't think that will happen again for a while, we really were treated to a smorgasboard of fine overseas acts, and some of the biggest bands in the world. I have a feeling Gaga will be here next December so that could trigger something... (not saying its good or bad :P)
  5. Yeah my last list was a kind of shortlist. They're still in my top 10, I just value the uniqueness of the albums 1-9 so much more. Plus I had more of a serious think about my top 10! Two Door's record is more of an LP of great singles, rather than having the full flow of an album. I had to get out of a serious Two Door obsession phase to realise!
  6. I re-did my top albums. As follows (FINAL). 15. MGMT - 'Congratulations' 14. Foals - 'Total Life Forever' 13. Mystery Jets - 'Seratonin' 12. Kanye West - 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' 11. Miami Horror - 'Illumination' 10. Two Door Cinema Club - 'Tourist History' 9. The Hoidays - 'Post Paradise' 8. Surfer Blood - 'Astro Coast' 7. Vampire Weekend - 'Contra' 6. Teenage Fanclub - 'Shadows' 5. Gorillaz - 'Plastic Beach' 4. Klaxons - 'Surfing The Void' 3. Arcade Fire - 'The Suburbs' 2. The Drums - 'The Drums' 1. THE NATIONAL - 'HIGH VIOLET' EDIT: LINK FOR EXTENDED REVIEWS/DESCRIPTIONS/JUSTIFICATION
  7. Yeah that's odd. I did read an official post saying Jan for tix. I guess you're lucky!

My god Guy Garvey can sing. It's a beautiful track, I expected nothing less. Although I am surprised at the lack of percussion on it. I hope it's not the direction they're taking because their last two albums had a great range.
  9. No Fall songs. And as for tix, yeah Grace said there was a disappointing turnout in Brissie. It is poor timing BUT WE WAITED 9 YEARS FOR A TOUR!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. ^ Interesting. It looked like it was just short of a sell out when I was there. As for The Fall, I find it intriguing. It's definitely sounding like an album that fits somewhere pre-Demon Days in terms of the sound. I wonder if Damon's keen to go back to that in the future? And there is a lack of 'commercial' or radio-singles on this... interesting considering I read in a recent interview that he longs for radio play and recorded Doncamatic specifically for it... Taking anything away from The Fall, it's very experimental. Some great tracks nonetheless and the best ipad-made album I've EVER HEARD. lol
  11. Interesting prediction. This might get me to go! lol Grace you'll have to host :D
  12. It's ok.... laneway tix are sent out in January.
  13. Hey I have enough British heritage to warrant it!
  14. Listening to it now for the first time. FUCKING HELL THIS WAS MADE ON AN IPAD Damon is a god.
  15. Woeful is an understatement. I'm going to day 3 in an england shirt. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
  16. Pretty hard to produce another mercury-prize winning masterpiece lol but I understand
  17. Top post. I put klaxons as my #3 album of 2010!!!
  18. Are you kiddin me jamie? klaxons is amazing. MGMT non-conformist. I'd say Interpol were poor, as well as the courteeners, Paul smith (Maximo park lead singer).
  19. Two new songs... There's a b side too!
  20. Omg I can't download it until I get home tomorrow night!! Great to read the reactions this makes me even more excited for it!!
  21. Vampire weekend were in my top 10 too. I think it surprises people because of how early it came in the year. I know it isn't as good as their debut but it's still a quality record!!
  22. Thanks lizzybear for the vm. For some reason I can't message you back. Holy crap I can't believe The Fall is only hours away!! Very excited. Was great to read your review grace lol we are freakishly alike in our appreciation for music! Except I don't get there as early!! As for the card thing that is hilarious! I love Damon he is always in such a playful mood, like a hyper child. So many other artists would have ignored it!! And Perrine you were right as I said this gig trumped muse and u2!!
  23. Mystery Jets The Holidays Gorillaz Beady Eye Oasis
