  1. The giant summer party that is Good Vibrations Festival has announced its first round of acts for 2010. The national juggernaut, which kicks off in Sydney’s Centennial Park, has a few pleasing bookings for the FasterLouder-inclined. After Fatboy Slim’s headlining DJ set this year, the festival has taken a different tact this by putting Las Vegas dazzlers The Killers in the top spot. The band (mostly) dropped its Springsteen shtick on most recent album Day & Age, getting back to the shimmering dance-pop they do best. They’ll perform a ‘greatest hits set’ at Good Vibrations. Also bringing some glam and glitz to the mainstage will be Gossip, led by the mercurial Beth Ditto. With their tent-raising Splendour set still fresh in our minds, Friendly Fires will also be jetting back to soak up the sun. Hip hop fans are again well-catered for, with Busta Rhymes, Naughty By Nature and Salt-N-Pepa locked in. The 2010 Good Vibrations line-up looks like this so far. The Killers (Nice..... Gimme sideshow please) Basement Jaxx Armand Van Helden Gossip Busta Rhymes Friendly Fires (More than nice, another sideshow please.....) Salt-N-Pepa Z-Trip Kid Cudi Naughty By Nature Plump DJs Gym Class Heroes Chase & Status Dave Seaman DJ Craze Chuckie Art vs Science Bass Kleph Sam Obernik KillaQueenz National tour dates: Sat 13 Feb – Centennial Park, Sydney Sun 14 Feb – Claremont Showground, Perth Sat 20 Feb – Parklands Showgrounds, Gold Coast Sun 21 Feb – The Nursery, Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne Not going, but hoping for those two sideshows. Glad to see passion pit still not on any lineup, meaning they can really only be at BDO or V methinks. (Don't mention second announcements)

    Odd.
  3. And I know they have had a lot of b-sides in the past, but I wouldn't hold off for any. Firstly, because of cuttings 2, and the fact that they put demos in the first single. Secondly, the band mentioned recently that they are well keen to get back into the studios again for LP4... (I Know, a bit early...) but this means they may save tracks for the next recording sessions. For now, I guess we can just use the acoustic versions and that new moon song...
  4. Would be happy with that.
  5. Good choice. But that's really late for a 2nd single.... so that's the 3rd?
  6. Bands that fasterlouder.com.au have mentioned as possible second round announcements. After two rapidly sold-out shows in August, PHOENIX is now a bona-fide ‘big deal’ in Australia. The Gallic heartbreakers hinted they’d be back for a summer festival – and FasterLouder knows which line-ups they’re NOT on. Could this be the one? With a mysterious promo visit to Sydney next month, VAMPIRE WEEKEND is one of the hottest tips to appear on the next round of acts. The Ralph Lauren ambassadors have a feverish following here and a new album ‘Contra’ due in January 2010. Boxes ticked. Big Day Out could use another dazzling lady, and Natasha Khan dazzles like few others. BAT FOR LASHES is one of those names often rumoured for festival line-ups, but has so far proved elusive. It’s a long shot for BDO, but one worth barracking for. One of Australia’s best-loved live bands, GYROSCOPE recently told FasterLouder they’re angling for a spot on the Big Day Out bill. We’d say that puts them at pretty safe odds. We’re still putting ambitious odds on German pyromaniacs RAMMSTEIN to set the Big Day Out stage ablaze again - if only for the thought of Lily Allen playing the next set. A wildcard perhaps, but surely FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS is due to appear on an Aussie festival line-up soon? The musical parodists have just released a second album of tunes from their hit HBO series, so we reckon it could be Business Time for Big Day Out. Fresh from a round of world-conquering, Australia’s reigning live act THE PRESETS is back here in January. We have an inkling Kim and Julian could be contending with Groove Armada to close the Boiler Room. With The Strokes taking their sweet time to record their next album and JULIAN CASABLANCAS' solo album due any day now, we think that the recently rehabilitated frontman is a chance. Nathan Williams - the hipster pin-up behind the psyched-out punk of WAVVES - said he’d bring the band here for summer. Laneway seemed like a shoe-in, but it was not to be (yet). A sun-soaked side-stage at Big Day Out may be beckoning. The dark and dastardly spot on the line-up might already be claimed by The Horrors, but we’re tipping GLASVEGAS as black-clad-band-number-two. Hot from a Mercury Prize nomination, we’d like to see them put in a sweltering show. We know that that Warren Ellis is in town this February AND that Nick Cave has been planning a promo tour here for the release of his new book. Given this timing and the band’s history with the festival, NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS is an outside chance. When PASSION PIT told FasterLouder they’d be here for a summer festival, we had them pinned for Falls or Laneway Festival. Perhaps the hyped five-piece has decided on an early afternoon set in the Boiler Room. Consider them the anti-Calvin Harris. With two reliable Aussie festival-starters Grinspoon and Powderfinger already confirmed on the bill and rock opus 'Cosmic Egg' just cracking on the masses, we are putting pretty good odds on WOLFMOTHER to be announced on the second line-up. Yes, we may drag RANCID out for every possible line-up announcement prediction, but the band is not playing ANY other festival this summer and has promised to break its 11-year Australian tour drought. It's got to happen. Sometimes in life all you can do is dream. We would like to think that there is a chance (albeit only slightly less than a snowball in hell) that the BDO will bring out the one and only pixie king, DAVID BOWIE for their 100th birthday celebrations. Bowie? FOTC? Wolfmother? Vampire Weekend? Phoenix? Julian Casablancas? Presets? Glasvegas? If any of these bands are announced I will collapse..... with excitement. Well, the rest can go to V festival or laneway's 2nd announcement! WOOOOO
  7. Exactly. Spiders is one of the greatest songs ever.
  8. Wow, I think it's good, but not as great as 'An End Has A Start' ... that album is top 5 of the decade!
  9. Yeah, I would rather see them all at once rather than going to each sideshow. Because then it gets too expensive for me...
  10. Laneway festival lineup just announced: Echo & The Bunnymen Florence & The Machine Black Lips The XX Daniel Johnston – No Adelaide Sarah Blasko N.A.S.A Eddy Current Suppression Ring Hockey Dappled Cities Mumford & Sons – No Adelaide The Very Best Radioclit Wild Beasts – No Adelaide Whitley The Middle East Kid Sam Dirty Three – Melbourne only What an incredible lineup, definitely worth going to for sure. Really excited about seeing Florence and the machine, Echoes, and The XX!
  11. All 3? I thought The Back Room was #2 lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Editors_discography Still a good effort
  12. Opportunistically? I just hate that music fans get ripped off. If I knew that it was only the bogans, I wouldn't mind!
  13. Oh my god emma I am going to see them before you lol *check sig* And sorry I COMPLELY forgot about the Pheonix audio! woops too busy writing a new song actually....
  14. Not only have you got the french angry, but 'a guy in a platypus costume' may not go down well with the Aussies....

  20. 10, greatest lyricist of this generation!
  21. I think Viva La Vida was the band's first glimpse of a 'concept album'. They obviously took the title track's theme for the album, and pretty much ran with it. I don't believe it was any real influence directly from the beatles as such, but a fun way for the band to present the album in a completely different manner to the way they had before. They took the themes of 'renaissance' and 'revolution' (inspiring the song, Viva La Vida) which highlighted and showcased the non-musical artistic talent of the band - and hence why the artwork, and outfits complemented each other to create a whole experience around the Viva-era. I just find it hard to believe they will be wearing normal clothes next tour. So the Yellow balls have to stay in live shows, but does anyone think there could be re-appearances of the butterflies in future shows for Lovers In Japan? The song is certainly good enough live to be played in future setlists.
  22. Hey Greta, great to see another Melbournian on the thread!
  23. As for the video, what pants. The song's lyrics has such amazing imagery, and this does not do it any justice at all.
