Me thinks there are no coincidences with our boys LOL Nah honestly it might be, but I am thinking about the white paper stripes as well and that would also fit in with the new look, but in the new official shot they all wear black shirts right? So we shall see. However I noticed Chris was wearing the pin...probably the same "love" pin as on the new photo?

Yeah I think starting with Atlas they have made a new trend of "the song that teases you but never explodes" hehe I think it´s ok for some songs on the album. If all of them were like this though I would definitely feel "unsatisfied" , but who knows...they have a way of weaving the melody in such a way that the whole song becomes pleasurable, without the need for a climax (yes ok this is starting to sound pervy so I´ll stop LOL)

I was referring to the shirts mostly :) I can't remember but I think that also when they presented MX for the first time at the iTunes Festival 2011 they were donning the MX uniforms, right? So yeah I am thinking these are the new ones , but we shall see in future live performances :)

Don´t they always tinker with it until the last minute? hehe Hard to let go of their baby and give it to us ;) God I loved that thing! So it was actually playing music as well as showing laser lights? Wow I am impressed :) Can´t wait to see it live! Another thing I like about Coldplay is that it´s not all about the music. They always come up with new fun stuff for us to enjoy and discover at each tour :)

I was never aware they were gone hehe If by being back you mean with more mellow music? I think we all knew LP6 was going to be more mellow. But in each album they always mixed mellow with more up-tempo tunes. I am starting to think Ghost Stories will feature NO up-tempo song though hehe Which is ok by me cuz MX had tons of those anyway :)

Absolutely :) But I think it also depends on the context. Take simple words like I love you. They can either be cheesy or very emotional and powerful, depending on how you feel, how they are said and so on. So yeah I am sure that listening to Another´s Arms in another frame of mind, the lyrics can come off as cheesy. I also loved them though cuz they are simple, like in Magic. There is something between the simple lyrics that match the understated music. In my ears, they seem to go together if you know what I mean :)

So the new "uniforms" are Chris in white and the others in black? Reminds me a bit of the Rush to the Blood era. Elegant and understated, just like the songs on Ghost Stories seem to be ;) It´s a nice change of pace from MX, and change keeps things fresh for us and for them :) And those huge white ghostly stripes! Can´t wait to be buried in them at the Ghost Stories Tour hehe :P

Maybe I am the only one who loved this as soon as it started? Definitely not a stand-out as Another´s Arms was for me, but it sounded very elegant, with an 80s vibe and Jonny does wonders throughout the song, he basically carries the whole song by himself, nearly! So happy to see him more and more prominent with every consecutive album. I also think this introduces the album nicely, definitely thinking now that Ghost Stories will be mellow throughout, which I don´t mind cuz this is the kind of haunting mellow I LOVE! :)

I must disagree. I am not sure why I am still alive after listening to this! It was EPIC EPIC EPIC! The soundscape, the melody, the haunting (very appropriate as we talk Ghost Stories hehe) feeling to it! It´s already set on repeat here. As for the lyrics being cheesy, it depends how you relate to them I suppose. For me this song is very very timely so I was crying as I listened to it and it was very poignant for me. That coupled with Jonny´s amazing riff it was just heaven! May can not come fast enough...

Interesting suggestion about Ghost Stories referring to the collection of songs. It might very well be, however for some reason I smell "conceptual album" once more, at least partly. Even X&Y was a sort of concept album and Viva was definitely a concept album...even though they did not have the full narrative flow like MX did. think Ghost Stories will continue the trend. Also if the cover´s drawings were inspired by the songs, then I must conclude the songs are all part of a single narrative, because the drawings seem to depict the same couple in various situations...

I like DLIBYH especially the live version. I love 42, but I have a feeling it´s too organic for Ghost Stories, which so far at least has a very clear electronic vibe throughout

Well the top right part of the cover drawing has two angels with the frame of the girl between them, so it does suggest to me that she is dead? But then again on the lower right corner we see the girl with an oil lamp in front of her ("leave a light on"?), so I am sure that even if the story might be sad, it will have a happy ending :)

Exactly. Their first single is never the best track of the album, but like you said a taster. I am sure Magic follows along those lines. I personally can´t wait to hear them at the iTunes Festival. If they do like they did with MX, we will probably hear more new tracks! :laugh3:

I find the lyrical part of Midnight the most impressive. They are simple lyrics but right to the point and the "leave a light on" part is hypnotising :)

I do like Magic a lot but I must say I simply love Midnight! The whole package is fantastic, music, voices, video, lyrics, you name it. I am also a big fan of Sigur Ros, so it was great to hear Coldplay making a meditative song in that genre. Why do you love Midnight? :) Do you think we´ll hear more songs like Midnight in Ghost Stories or is this a one-off experiment? Also I don´t get it how a lot of reviewers said the lyrics were intelligible. I understood nearly every word after two listens. Do we perhaps speak Coldplayian more fluently than non-Coldplay fans? hehe

A song that came to mind along this vein is DLIBYH. Its really heavy and bombastic, yet in a nice non-heavy way, if it makes any sense hehe I hope we´ll find a song like this on Ghost Stories.

I´ll hold out on pre-order until later closer to release day I think. I really hope they will make a special edition. I would then buy that as well as the iTunes pre-order for instant gratification :)

The vinyl made me wish they made a special edition like the MX pop up one. I would love to have more of the wonderful art we have seen so far in the new album, in the form of posters, stickers or even an art book :) I´d buy it immediately!

We had a proper winter the last month or so. Personally I am ready for Spring :)

I think this is a new trend to be honest. We have seen it in Magic as well (if we ignore the wonderful acoustic guitar interlude) and in Atlas. Atlas had a build up, but again it felt like it could have gone massive and it did not. I sense they want to break the Coldplay-formula of songs building up to massive sweeping parts and we will see more of that trend in Ghost Stories I think... Personally I do miss the sweeping parts, so I hope Jonny will provide some killer licks to make up for it ;)

Yeah I can totally see why people would find the lyrics subpar, but after all they do go very well with the minimalistic music. They are a good fit in my opinion. We know Chris is capable of writing intricate lyrics (Atlas, Violet Hill, etc,), so this was definitely a conscious decision on their part, to keep it simple and direct. :)

The Ghost Stories album cover definitely suggests a love story between a guy who is still alive and a girl who passed away...I sense sad vibes coming our way :(
