  1. *LOL* Tell me about it....but still you had the best bet so far! :)
  2. *LOL* Who knows :) To me its not much the lyrics though (after all even Viva has quite a lot of "dark" content), but the chord progressions of some early work are quite melancholic and yes even depressing. The music tone plays a big part for me. So I think its the music that transmits that to me more than the lyrics, even though songs about "love lost/unrequited love" also are much present in their early works and another factor the resonated with me hehe But yeah every album has hints of hope in the end, but to me the early works communicated something like "My life sucks, Im here suffering but maybe there is light in the distant future so on we go" , while the from X&Y and onwards (and especially from Viva) the music is vibrant and the tone of the lyrics/ music say to me "You know what we might be in trouble and suffering right now but the sun will come out!". So hope in both cases but while the first is more passive, the latter is more like actively there! And maybe it all goes back to your conclusion...guys tend to resonate to more "active/strong" tones while girls tend to resonate to the more subtle and mellow. I guess my musings here support your theory ! *LOL* Isn't it great how we are all so different? :)
  3. I like everything @Nie wrote :) Nice analysis!
  4. This guy mentioned the word "cynical" more than a few times in conjunction with the band...which completely shows he knows nothing about Coldplay. This is not a review...it´s a subjective reflection on what he sees in Coldplay and how he thinks that reflects society. Fair enough and I respect that. But it has nothing to do with anyone else or their motivation for listening to Coldplay or even disliking Coldplay or why Coldplay write the music they do. He assumes throughout that Coldplay are a copy of a copy. Again fair enough, but I dont see it. I think the reality is much simpler: they wanted to incorporate other genres of music other than alternative rock, so their latest albums have included a lot of pop elements. They are "behind" the leading edge as he writes not because they are "copying" others, but because they were not comfortable writing those kind of songs before. It took them a whole journey to feel free enough and get to AHFOD.
  5. Hey I´d love to see that list. What are the other 14 things? :) "Focus back" Thats something I never want to do when Im at the dentist hah I wanna focus away as much as I can *LOL* Good you got a happy song in a sad moment :D
  6. *lol* Yay! I knew I was not the only one hehe I dont associate who I was then to introspection though. That I have plenty of now and even sadness of course many times. But back then when I listened to Parachutes a lot and early b-sides like I Ran Away or even tracks like Warning Sign , Crests of Waves etc...they resonated so much with me because they had in a way a sense of hopelessness and melancholy . I was young, confused, overwhelmed by events in my life and also just a teenager hehe It was also the time I listened a lot to The Smiths, for similar reasons. I used to find solace in that kind of music, to just put up those tracks so I could drift away from the world... Now I still get sad aplenty, but Im never hopeless anymore. Thats why perhaps some tracks dont resonate with me anymore. So I think I associate them with a particular time and mood Im in no more (not just sadness), so I only listen to them now only occasionally. Matter of fact on a most rare occasion I was completely overwhelmed a few weeks ago and I got drunk and lo and behold I sang Warning Sign at the top of my lungs and played all Rush from beginning to end *LOL*
  7. It is really huge...its not only seen by so many on the TV, but for example in my town its been shown as an event at the cinema! They will show it irt on the big screen, with snacks, drinks and whatnot. They of course mentioned Coldplay in their ad for this event :D
  8. Whether the songs have similar production traits weaved among them (which may very well be the case), its still different genres in one album , from slow acoustic ones, to rockier pieces to more pop ones. It still supports the theory (which really isn't a theory cuz they pretty much confirmed it) that they took songs from the "slow" album and the more "up-tempo" one they were working on and mixed them together in MX. I find what they did on MX pretty similar to GS and AHFOD, just that in this case they released them as two separate albums, but again they were pretty much working on more somber songs together with more vibrant ones during the same period of time.
  9. Yes, I just posted something totally similar hehe I think this too
  10. Equally likely to be at the same level as you, higher or lower (if you are aiming down a cliff LOL), but I think you meant for the target to be located somewhere above...so a tree? A building? The sky? Still not getting what we are supposed to get from the riddle. Single words from each sentence which then are part of the lyrics of the song we are looking for? Or something else?
  11. "In my place" = In my place A view from the ground = an unreleased song? "You´re the target that Im aiming at" = A Message "Ill be doing my best..." =See you soon "Do you feel like a puzzle..."= Talk "So I crawl back into your open arms" =Warning Sign " A secret everybody knows" = Ghost Story Titles I deciphered so far....not sure if its at all relevant and how... And no that sentence you mentioned does not ring a bell to me...:/
  12. OT? What, what? What happened? *lol*
  13. Yeah I can see "Warning Sign" is not. Cant remember if See you Soon is from X&Y or before...Im not so good with dates :) So how do we approach each part? "Its not what it seems". "In my place" is not what it seems...so....its something else? "in your place" LOL Anyone else has suggestion on how to use the title to unravel each part of the riddle?
  14. Art reflects society....this guy has discovered the wheel :) But this...I dont :rolleyes5::rolleyes5: Only Chris Martin could put a painting from the 1830 French revolution on the cover of a pop record, firmly divorcing the radical Delacroix work “Liberty Leading the People” from any meaning. How is that divorcing the painting from any meaning? The painting fit the revolutionary theme in Viva... The album’s title, maybe their most apt, reflects its own meaningless linguistic ouroboros:Viva La Vida. Live life. This blithe tautology could mean anything to anyone, and it does. This....is even worse. How is "Viva la vida" meaningless?? (only in this guy´s head). It does not translate as "live life" at all...it roughly translates in "Hail to life, celebrate life". This guy´s rambling stream of consciousness can hardly be called an article....
  15. For the record I dont like the dancing monkeys haha I dont know how the show will turn out to be. I think they will do great if the live shows are any indication though...:)
  16. Hmm...seems to be all songs from X&Y era, so...maybe we should look elsewhere for the answer? (its not what it seems?)

I recently heard most of it while I was browsing stuff at Barnes. I really like it for the most part :) It has definitely more than 5 songs I would/might download.
  18. This has nothing to do with my liking their recent album or not :) Had they been asked during the Viva or MX or even A Rush era I still would have thought it´d be a great opportunity for the band. Musicians who perform there usually showcase their greatest hits and celebrate their whole career (or try to in 12 minutes lol), so this is a great opportunity for the band, completely irrespective of what album they have on the shelves at the moment :) As for whether I will like the performance, that remains to be seen. I just like to point out that the "monkey dancers" you mention , if they will appear, will not be exclusive to the SuperBowl (we have seen them already in a few performances), so again I dont see this as an argument to be against this specific venue :)
  19. I´ve seen in other countries too but here its like 60% of commercials are drug ads! You really feel like you´re stuck in the pharmacy after a while ...LOL
  20. I cant imagine anyone in their right mind saying no to being asked to perform in front of an audience of over 100 million people! Whatever one may think of the SuperBowl (I have no opinion in the matter as im not a sports fan), it IS the largest and most prestigious venue to perform at for an artist in the USA. Everyone who´s asked to play there (that I know of) is both very honoured and very nervous at the prospect of putting up a 12 minutes show! And the halftime has featured both pop and rock artists, including Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, The Who etc. So yeah I dont quite get whats "wrong" about performing there...
  21. The greatest band on earth will put up an amazing show I'm sure :) I can't wait.
  22. After two months in the USA I almost feel like I've been to medical seminars considering all the drug commercials they air here! Geeees hehe
  23. That's a nice description ! :) I love that you can get those feelings listening to it :) I love more than a few songs on Parachutes including don't panic that you mention. But I must confess ,and with all my love for the band taken into consideration, that some songs on parachutes and early b sides I just hear now and can't help thinking "oh shut up stop whining lol". Of course back when those songs came out I WAS "whining" so I enjoyed them a lot more looool and if you had told me back then to stop whining I would have told you to sod off and show some sensitivity haha Bottom line I guess it's amazing how things change when you change...most of the times its out of our control. I'm glad you still enjoy parachutes as you did then though ! :)
  24. More than defiant you would like someone just out of a time machine hehe "Back to the past" lol
  25. Today for the first time ever in my life I'm listening to Ghost Stories without crying or being sad. Wow , major Coldplay/Leo moment.
