  1. No its not true ambient but neither would I expect it to ever be with Coldplay. One never knows of course, but I hope they always will create songs which somehow adhere to the classical pop formula, while experimenting with different variations. The Beatles come to mind as having been great at this combo!
  2. I´ve spoken to a few here :) But I also think the word Newplayer refers to people who like the new stuff in general, no matter when they became a fan, but Im not too sure on all these labels LOL
  3. I´d say GS is ambient-like in the sense that it creates an atmosphere more than focusing on beats or other stuff. Its as ambient as Coldplay have gotten so far hehe But of course it will always be pop in the very wide sense of the word.
  4. Ive noticed quite a few people who know the band from MX onwards for example, so Im sure we have our share of Newplayers :)
  5. Stargate should just be exonerated of all charges...*lol* They´ve just been hired to do a job and they did exactly as expected/requested hehe Kinda blaming the painter for painting your house white...when you hired him to do just that haha :)
  6. Incidentally Im thinking will we see new confetti this time around? :) Maybe flower of life confetti, yay! :D
  7. Thinking that I fancy a cheese sandwich, with my last two slices of bread...Walmart had run out of gluten-free bread. :annoyed::disappointed::inquisitive::no:
  8. I dont mean pop as in verse chorus verse chorus or in the wide general sense of the word (which would comprise most music these days anyway), I mean pop in the extreme sense of the word I guess as if whats on top of the charts these days (what most people here despise LOL). In that sense and compared to that, I think AHFOD is quite alternative, also its structure is unusual with the interludes, the mixed genres and many other touches. I meant to say that there are only a few moments where its straight down pop that gets close to whats on the charts now. (But even Hymn has some interesting guitar elements that sets it apart...). If I listen to say a Taylor Swift album or Beyonce or any of the "common" pop musicians now I cant honestly say AHFOD is on the same level, it certainly stands out, at least to my ears.
  9. Whats going on there on twitter? :gossip: Are we waiting for something? :jonny::omgomg:
  10. You know I was posting about this on another thread today, how really AHFOD is not as poppy as we perhaps tend to hear or people tend to think. MX, GS and AHFOD are all pretty much rooted in alternative music overall. The true 100% pop elements are in the minority if you take the works in their entirety. Now they pretty much have incorporated all genres (minus polka, jazz and country LOL), so Im not sure they need another revolution. I think their palette is complete in that they have garnered the tools they need, whereas in the first 3 albums they were limiting themselves to only a few tools. I agree though that LP7 is the end of an era as they also have said many times and Im also sure LP8 will start something new, but I dont think anyone can say in which direction, probably not even the band! hehe But I think they are equipped now to go pretty much where they want to. So yeah exciting times ahead but what I most look forward to is the live shows and future singles now! hehe LP7 is still fresh and exciting :)
  11. Not only Birds. Pretty much every song imo except hymn and adventure which are almost straight pop. But the rest is a mix with a lot of everything put in. And despite its mixed genres and styles it all flows very nicely. I would dare say thanks to the homogenous production which keeps it all together! My first praise for Stargate here haha
  12. It certainly IS a weird atmosphere haha but all those dissonant chords do funny thing to my stomach and not in the pleasant way haha It's an interesting track for sure though.
  13. The only copy I got is on vinyl too haha and yes I have the same memories you got of my years living in London :)
  14. So after several listens and after yesterday doing a mini Coldplay marathon of a rush and X&Y (during my drunken night lol) , I can say AHFOD is so more alternative to my ears than ever before. It's easy to focus on the few clear 100% pop elements like in Hymn, but when listened from start to finish I can now say to me AHFOD is elegant and even artsy and definitely alternative. The small interludes, the small touches from all sort of genres weaved together, the wonderful guitars, piano, lyrical themes etc. Listening to this right after X&Y, the latter sounds actually much more mainstream for its times! LP7 is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. And it's getting less and less poppish with every listen as all the elements come to the fore. The recent Birds video actually totally fits the album in its small artsy execution. And even Adventure video was yes a big production but quite original and innovative and different with the mocap experiment. I look forward to seeing what more I'll notice as this album does rotation after rotation on my phone hehe :)

They are such different songs at the end of the day! :) I think O is poignant. I remember listening to it for the first time and thinking wow, just wow :)
  16. Cheers :) I had to stop after finishing the bottle of champagne...I was not standing up any longer haha :) And about the happy new year wishes I find everyone does that, even strangers sometimes! hehe As long as you got some colleagues you get along with and talk to throughout the year, thats what matters. Hope your day is better than you expect :)
  17. Have not been...this drunk....in ages *lol*
  18. I tried with direct links now.
  19. It will be exciting to see if I can still stand past X&Y *LOL* #drunkennightwithColdplay
  20. I edited now. Is it working?
  21. Hmm sure hehe But even without makeup you look grown up (and much prettier hehe) so much earlier than us and lets not forget you are also more mature than us way earlier haha Not only looks hehe Im 35 and I still play Spider-Man hanging from branches *LOL*
  22. Pics not showing at all? If its the quality you mean, I cant do any better right now :/
  23. Haha Yep I know all about it...Puberty is tough haha the girls looking all perfect and grown up and us looking like fools LOL We make up for it past 30 though haha. Thats why I think a man´s best age is definitely 30 and upwards, thats when we start to get it all together and be even worthy og girls attention *LOL*
  24. Trust me on this...we boys mature WAY slower than you girls hehe It takes us ages to stop looking like babies haha On the plus side we age slower, so there you go....natura balance haha
  25. I´ve never tried this but it feels good so far LOL *getting slightly drunk and singing along playing all Coldplay songs in chronological order* haha
